Local high school prodigy Rintaro Magami's daily life is pretty boring, though not for lack of things to do. He's just...done everything already. Rintarou is a high-school genius, but he is bored of life. At least until when he gets invited to join the competition to find King Arthur's heir, and Rintarou chooses the worst candidate as he thinks he'll have more fun that way. However, Luna Arthur is even worse that he originally thought. She's not noble and even uses her knight, Sir Kay, however she wants. Rintarou might have chewed more than he originally thought, but maybe Luna is not as bed as he thought.

I liked the relationship between Rintarou and Luna, and I want to learn more about them. However, I felt like the omniscient narration took me away from the story and there were multiple times where there was too much "telling" and not "showing", which would look better in the manga but not in a novel.

Reincarnated King Aurthurs battling it out to see which one would become the new king while using knights of the round table sort of like Pokemon or Servants in Fate, what could go wrong?

Overall, this light novel is middle of the pack. The premise is interesting, though it feels like the author wasn't 100% invested in it. This is sort of proven in the author's blurb at the end of the book where they talk about how their editor sort of put the story idea into their head. I mean, it sounds good on paper, but the execution leaves something to be desired.

The overall story is the standard delinquent turns out to be a super caring and wonderful person arch. Nothing new there. She has an underwhelming knight as her servant, and ends up teaming up with an over powered ally who is the main protagonist of the story. The great reveal as to who the protagonist is can be seen a mile away and is no real surprise when it happens, though they made him a lot more geared to hand to hand combat than one would think this person should be. But at least it sort of kept things interesting. (also, what is the obsession with fighting with two knives vs a sword?)

In the end, I honestly don't know if I am going to pick up the next book in this series or not. While it was interesting, I am not sure it was interesting enough to warrant continuing forward with it. Perhaps if I grow bored with the other light novels I am reading, I will pick this up again. But it's taken two years to read this one when it should have taken a week or so. But, if King Arthur is your jam, this could be for you!

I read this because I quite enjoyed the Akashic Records of the Bastard Magic Instructor light novel series by the same author. So just know that liking that does not equate to liking this. You see . . .

There's a big difference between a likable rascal and an incredibly annoying moronic scumbag.

I absolutely can't stand a single character in this book. I barely finished it. And it fell into the old cliché of .

It's not fresh or interesting, and it didn't make me want to care.

(Note: one of the other reviewers called this a harem fantasy. It's not. There is no romance and no hint that it might turn into harem. Nor is Akashic Records harem. )

A generic school harem battle fantasy that uses the concept of King Arthur at its base, Last Round Arthurs has some decent moments but mostly comes off as pretty bland in the end.

That said, on a technical scale, the writing is pretty well done as the author has a clear concept and uniquely identifiable characters, which is something that is pretty important especially when trying to riff on something so popularly known and iconic. Each character has their quirks and motivations established well enough to understand their place in the story, so that's one thing that this title pulls off well.

In the end, whether you like this novel or not depends on your idolation of the king Arthur myth, but this book does stick to it pretty closely enough.

Standard chu2 fodder, with a scumbag (hidden genius) protagonist, overpowered hinedere female lead, high school battle (fantasy-lite) setting, cartoonish characterisation, loose plot structure (approaching slice-of-life) and light fan service.

It's trope-heavy but a fun, easy read for those who are used to (and enjoy) this sort of light novel story.

I enjoyed the Arthuriana influences, but I wouldn't recommend it on its literary value, lol. (And for the curious - it's no Fate/Stay Night (not even with bishojo King Arthur), but it's not pretending to be. What you see is what you get. Nothing wrong with that.)

One star less because when I purchased this book, I thought that I would get a Manga because of the cover, right?

Wrong.

It was all in novelization form.

Not that I super-minded that, but I had totally thought I would get a Manga with black and white art and maybe a page or two would be colored.

I did really like the story though.

Bought it from archonia.com and it didn't have a "Look Inside The Book" tab (I don't think any other website has that, aside from amazon.co.uk and amazon.com?)

A fast-paced story that have elements of Fate/Stay Night and Haruhi Suzumiya with a sprinkle of history regarding King Arthur and his Round Table. With a group of interesting characters, it makes me excited to see who else will be joining this colorful cast.

A different twist on the Legend of King Arthur, and a fun one at that. At first the characters sort of annoyed me but I came to understand their quirks and they grew on me. Great start to a series.
