What I liked: low angst, low drama, sexy times, sparkly HEA.

What I didn't: insta love, overwhelming focus on family and kid, flat plot, static MCs, too many secondary characters taking attention away from MCs.

Family Ties is an appropriate title for this book. Blake spent far more time on page with his many, many relatives than Linc.

More than a dozen secondary characters were introduced, including Blake's numerous male (and some female) cousins. I felt like half the story was a setup for the other books in the series.

Blake's 3-year-old daughter also had overwhelming page presence. Caroline was too mature and scripted for a 3 year old, and the rate Blake was going, she was going to be the biggest spoiled brat on the planet. We got a detailed rundown of Caroline talking, dressing up, eating cheese, swimming, being cute. It was slightly nauseating.

Blake and Linc didn't seem to have much in common. They met, went on a date, slept together, then Blake freaked for no real reason, and then, like WHOA, it's all I Love You and Can't Live Without You. What? How?

The writing was fine, but I really didn't gel with the story. That's totally me, though; if you love family-centric stories, you'll probably enjoy this one more than I did.

Family Ties was a really lovely and sweet romance. It was a relatively drama free story too, which made it such a nice easy read that was perfect for a relaxing evening with my Kindle.

The thing that really pulled me in with this one was the array of interesting characters. Of course the main characters were wonderful, but I’ve always enjoyed a story that has good and well developed secondary characters too. The Bartlett family was full of characters that I would love to learn more about, particularly Kale and Micah, and I was delighted to hear that book two will be Kale’s story (but pretty please let us have a Micah one at some point too!).

Linc and Blake were a fab couple. Their relationship developed really nicely and there was only one real incidence of any drama which was quite quickly resolved, so nothing too angsty happened. I love angst, but sometimes I’m in the mood for a chilled and easygoing romance, and this story definitely ticked that box.

I would have loved to see more Linc and Caroline interactions, even though there were enough of those here. But I absolutely loved Caroline, she was such a sweetheart, and would really have liked to see her bonding more with her father’s new partner. The epilogue was nice, but my only gripe was that it seemed too quick. I guess that’s a personal opinion and maybe it’s that just me, so perhaps no one else will have that issue, and all in all it was still a lovely and delightful little moment.

I will absolutely be reading the second book in this series when it is released, and would recommend this if you want a fluffy feel good story with lots of wonderful characters.

I was in the mood for a quick sweet fluffy read. Family Ties was definitely all those things. While there are some drawbacks, the strong family bond this clan shares is great.

After the death of his estranged husband, Blake and his daughter Caroline return to family fold in Florida. The Bartletts are a big noisy loving family that tends to butt into each other's lives a bit too much... but that is family. They are as Blake's sister reminds him a foundation to build on. They aren't perfect but offer love and support no matter what. Also, all of them are only too willing to spoil his daughter.

Blake starts working for his uncles' construction company. One has retired and the other longs to do so as well and take his wife on a cruise. Since Blake majored in business, he is the perfect choice to help run the company.

Linc is a foreman at the company. He is great looking, and Blake is definitely attracted. Thus begins the DRAMA. It is on a small scale but totally not necessary.

The book does have a minor case of the instants - attraction, sex and feelings. While the instant I loves you aren't said, both men have fallen hard for each other. Things seem to be going well. Until a few jokes are made at a family picnic and... we have the SEPARATION.

It takes a chapter or two before everything is worked out, and we get the happy ending. Blake's uncle sums it up best. He tells Blake and Linc they are basically idiots. If ONLY they had talked to Blake's uncle first. The drama could have been avoided, and we would have had a large helping of fluff and family.

A great family filled, low angst read.
I love books filled with family, love and happiness! Kind of like a bit too much sugar but you can never get enough.
This is a sweet read and a really good start to the Bartlett Boys series.
Blake has moved back to HavenDale with his 3yr old Caroline after his husband dies, though they were separated a year previous. He is welcomed back into the family fled with parents, siblings, an aunt and uncle and countless cousins.
Linc is a foreman at the family's construction business a it's lust at first sight for them both. A passionate start to a relationship is followed by family parties and dinners out but is it too much for them both to work at the family business?
I really enjoyed the story. Caroline is a complete sweetie, wrapping everyone around her finger. We kind of get overwhelmed with a lot of different family members but they are all used to advantage and you can imagine who will be getting books of their own!
Blake and Linc have a good relationship, setting boundaries to start with and always allowing for Caroline. They come across as strong and independent regardless of how close they are with the family. The Havendale world sounds like an amazing place to live but it would be nice for the characters to spend a bit more time out in it.
I'm looking forward to the future books in the series!

I liked it, it was cute. Nothing out of this world or anything just two guys who meet and fall into to like and call it love. You know how that goes. The story is very family oriented focusing in many parts on the family and not necessarily the love story so that's what kind of threw things off for me. Average characters and a sweet child. Cute Ending.

Lots of love for the Bartletts! :) <3 This was a lot of fun. I adored the whole crew. Things moved a littttle bit quickly - but, Blake and Caroline deserved their happy ever after! And, Linc was a sweetheart. I'll definitely be on board for future Bartlett Boys books! Full review coming to www.thenovelapproachreviews.com

Great start to a new series!

After the death of his estranged husband, Michael, Blake returns back home to his family with his adorable three year old daughter, Caroline (Mouse).
Soon she has all the Bartlett family wrapped around her little fingers especially Blake's dad who she calls Jeep!
Uncle Henry gives Blake a job running the office in the family's construction firm. He meets a sexy foreman called Linc. Linc has woken feelings in Blake that he's sure even Michael didn't. With Blake being Linc's boss can they make this relationship work?

The Bartlett's are a very close, caring and strong family and I can't wait to read more. Looking forward to Kale's book next.

The title for this book is so accurate. It’s all about the close ties of a large extended family, something I always dreamed of having. I loved the dynamics of the family, the interactions were so fun. So many great characters that provided lots of fun, entertaining moments. But all of those scenes kind of took over the book, there was more setup for the series than for the main romance. Which seems to happen in the first book of a series.

Linc and Blake (along with “Mouse”) were adorable, lovable characters. I struggled a bit to see the relationship develop, but when they were together it was amazing. So much hotness and super sweet together. I’m not particular about needing both POVs, but I really would have liked Linc’s POV or to learn more about his thoughts and feelings through Blake. He went through a major character change (not spoiling it), but we don’t get to see how he felt about it. It appeared as though he sailed right through with zero hesitation...but that didn’t feel right.

This was a sweet, light hearted read. I recommend it, and I will be checking out the rest of this series when it comes.

Read like M/F romance. Blake was a chick with a dick - life goals, behaviors, internal thoughts. He was very self centered. Blake over indulged his daughter and talked to her like a baby instead of a growing child. Linc’s character was never fully developed. There was instant love with lots of sex and no relationship development. There was too much kid and extended family.

When I was preparing to write this review, I was shocked when I realized that this was the first book I’ve read by Poppy Dennison. I don’t know how that’s even possible, but there it is. I certainly eyeballed her Holly Creek books, but for some reason never got around to them. So, when Family Ties, the first book in her new series, popped up, I grabbed it, and I’m glad I did. The series, as the title suggests, is mainly about the boys in the family, and their romances, of course, but really revolves around the entire group. The Bartletts are a large, tightknit, southern family, living in Florida. Many of them run or work at the family construction business, but between all the cousins, there is a variety of occupations covered. And, they all support each other in whatever their personal endeavors are. Dennison did an incredible job of painting the picture of what being a part of this family means, and I couldn’t help falling in love with them almost instantly.

This story opens with Blake, who is recently widowed, with a three-year-old daughter, moving across the country from Seattle to Havendale, Florida. Blake’s husband, Michael, died suddenly in an accident, devastating both Blake and their daughter, Caroline. But, we learn that Blake and Michael had actually been separated for a year and planning to divorce at the time of the accident. So, while Blake is grieving, it’s more for Caroline’s loss and the loss of what they once had. The hope with the move is that being close to Blake’s family, who he has missed desperately, will help the healing process for both him and his daughter. It does, and it’s a joy to see all that love in action.

I loved the feel of the book and, overall, it was adorable. I absolutely and completely loved everything about the Bartletts. I always wanted a big family like that growing up, and envied my friends who were close to their cousins like Blake was close to all of his. It wasn’t just him and his sister against the world. He also had Abe, Micah, Kale, Danielle, Nathan, Claire, Carter and Josh (I hope I got them all!). Caroline – I loved her nickname, Mouse—was an absolute doll. Her language maybe seemed a tiny bit advanced for three, but she had me smiling and awwww’ing the entire time. And Linc was a total sweetheart. I thought he was great for Blake, and I liked them together a lot. But, I did feel like they dove off the insta-love cliff pretty quickly in the last quarter of the book. Also, the relationship conflict felt a bit overdramatic. The whole time I was thinking that the entire thing could have been avoided with a simple conversation. I wish there would have been a bit more relationship development on page—but, I love where they ended up.

Those couple of minor quibbles aside, however, I thoroughly enjoyed the book! Family Ties was a wonderful introduction to the Bartlett clan, and laid a foundation that invested me in the family and assured that I would be on board for the rest of the series. In fact, Kale’s book is next, and he was one of my favorite cousins! 😀 I’m excited to see what Poppy has in store for the rest of the Bartlett Boys!

What a sweet story. I really enjoyed it. It pulled at the heartstrings and yet was funny as well.

Blake's life is falling apart. Everything in life he dreamed of is in tatters and even worse he feels guilty and ashamed from keeping it from his family. But his family don't want to hear it, they just want him home. With his little princess, he returns. Embraced in the family he doesn't know how he's done without, he starts to put his and his daughter's life back together. Sure there are bumps, but with his family life seems to get better. He has support and love and his daughter has the family she needs. But the biggest bump comes in the form the foreman, Linc. As soon as Blake sees Linc, he is breathless. He can't seem to form coherent words. And can't remember how long it's been since he's felt anything remotely like that. Linc gets him to agree to a date, and Blake overhears some comments about him. Thinking he's good for a one night stand, he is happy to have his itch scratched and go on. But Linc’s ideas are much different. He may have been a hit it and quit it man before, but something about Blake makes him want forever. Now he has to figure out how to get the man of his dreams without screwing up his job.

Without giving away anything, I can't really describe Blake's life. But he's torn apart. He had a dream of what it would be like and for a while it seemed it was going to be. But things changed and he is lost. Right from the start of the book, there's a tug of the heartstrings. To see what he's gone through and what he's going through, and with his little princess as well. They are trying to cope the best they can. Blake feels so much. He feels ashamed and guilty because he left his family out of what was going on. But he didn't know how to really cope. His heart is so big. He's so loving and the way he is with his little girl is amazing. I love his family. There are a lot of people who aren't blessed with a family who cares so much and just wraps you up in it's embrace, regardless of what's happened. But Blake's did. They are the balm his weary soul needs. The support and love his daughter needs. And now Blake feels like he can breathe. Until Linc walks in lol. Linc is one of those guys that knocks you on your ass. A sexy man in a gorgeous package. And as Blake gets to know him, a brain to match. Blake feels the need to blow off steam and figures that's all he needs. But between his heart and Linc's, it seems love has worked its way in. And happy day, it's what he needs. They just have to work through a few things.

It's a very sweet and heartwarming story. Heartbreaking at moments, but sometimes life has a way of giving us a hard time. We just have to keep working at it and keep going.

This is the first book in The Bartlett Boys Series. A fantastic book the writing was good. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters wonderful. The characters were developed and thought out. Blake Bartlett and Lincoln Coleman are the MC’s of this book. And Blake’s daughter as a secondary character. There’s plane rides, a daughter, loss, family, construction, separation, sex, a sick child, dancing and so much more in this book.

Here is a quote from the book, “The air conditioning repair people hate me.” Blake wiped his forehead across his arm, removing the beads of sweat that were dripping down into his eyes. “… Why didn’t you just take the laptop home?” “I don’t have the purchasing program Luce uses installed and since Uncle Henry is over at the Robins’ fixing their flooded basement, I couldn’t even figure out where to get it. So I’m stuck here until I get bids for the Maynard job for Abe. He needs them right away.” Linc lifted his tank and wiped his own face, revealing his extremely well defined abs. Blake wanted to lick them. Twice. Maybe three times for good measure. Blake’s entire body agreed with his thoughts, responding to such ideas eagerly.”. There is more but you will need to read the book which I can recommend. I can’t wait for Kale’s story which is next. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more of this series.

Blake and his daughter move back closer to his family after his husband passed away. His family is very close and tight knit. They are there for each other and sometimes butt in a little too much, but they genuinely care and love each other. The Bartlett family is fun and amazing. Everyone helps and pitches in when someone needs it. It reminded me of my extended family when I was really little and brought back fond memories.

I liked Blake and his daughter. She's cute and acted her age. There were a few times I wanted to ask Blake what he was thinking. He clearly is trying to makeup for some poor decisions in regards to his family, but I wonder why he doesn't use them as a sounding board more, especially when things get complicated. They really were only complicated in his and Linc's mind.

I really liked Linc. He was a sweetheart and trying (and succeeding most of the time) to do the right things. It might have been nice at a few moments to have seen Linc's perspective, but the story really doesn't need it. I was a little shocked at how fast the conflict between him and Blake escalated, but I was happy to see them work things out.

I hope we see more of this wonderful family in future books.

I love this family. It is so southern and delightful. Having known the author through her paranormal works, it was a pleasure to read such a contemporary find.

Blake, single, now widowed father of a cheese-eating daughter thought family meant never letting them down. But when life hit hard, he found moving home meant you could go home again no matter the disappoint you thought had happened.

As foreman for a family owned company, Linc had gotten a taste of the life. Meeting the one family member he had not had the pleasure of had removed the scales from his eyes. He and Blake clicked from moment one, and soon the former playboy was being reformed.

With plenty of familial antics, cheese and puppy dog eyes, this was the story of understanding, romance and the beginning of an exceptional series if it continues in this aspect.

Happy ever afters never felt so good. Want you a taste of southern hospitality, one click and enjoy.

I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.

This is book one of a series I'm excited about. The Bartlett boys are a group of cousins who are also great friends. Blake moves back home with his adorable daughter (the first grandchild of the Bartlett clan), after the death of his estranged husband. As Blake and Caroline adjust to being surrounded by family, Blake also begins working in the office of his uncles' construction company. He meets sexy foreman Linc, who has a reputation as a player, and the two instantly feel sparks.
Despite the death that happens before the book begins (and the relationship that ended before that), this book isn't overly angsty. There is a lot of humor, as well as the expected focus on family. I would like to know more about Linc and the family he came from. Also, we're told he gets around, but there is no real evidence of that. Is that because he fell for Blake so hard and fast that he changed his ways immediately? I would have loved seeing his point of view. Regardless, this is a really sweet and fun story. I like the couple, little Caroline, the many family members, and the smoking hot loving! I will absolutely be back for book two!

I really enjoyed this book. It is well-written with engaging characters and it is a great start for this new series. My favorite part was the Bartlett family, they are hilarious, loving and supportive of each other. The cousins and siblings did everything they could to help Blake and his daughter. Blake and Linc fall for each other but neither of them are looking for a relationship. Blake is trying to get over the death of his estranged husband and help his daughter Caroline deal with the death of her other father and a move across the country. Linc and Blake both work for Blake's Uncle Henry in his construction business and this makes Linc uncomfortable. There is a little angst while these two figure out how to get their HEA. I wish we had been given Linc's POV as that would have made the story better. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

I enjoyed this first novel in the Bartlett Boys series. Blake and Linc's romance is sweet and sexy, with a bit of angst that tugged at my heart. From the second they meet, sparks fly between these two men, but as in life things are never as easy as we would like. Linc was such a sweetheart and I thought the ways he bonded with Caroline were absolutely adorable.

I loved the introduction to the Bartlett family we get in this book. I have a rather large family myself, so I am used to massive family gatherings and noise and chaos... so reading this book I felt right at home with their family. I adored how all the cousins doted on Caroline, but especially the guys! She has everyone wrapped around her little finger, and I just love how protective they are of her, too. The way the entire family comes together whenever anyone needs something is heartwarming and reminds me of my own. I can't wait for more from this family!

There’s nothing I love more than when a series of books follows a family line and that’s definitely what Poppy Dennison is going to deliver with the Bartlett Boys. Blake and Linc were fantastic hero’s, and I absolutely loved the other Bartlett family members we meet throughout this novel - I honestly couldn’t tell you which character’s story I’m more excited for! It was greatly written, sometimes extended family member moments can seem like they’re just pointlessly thrown in so that characters can be introduced but each moment flowed and added something to the story. Family Ties was a quick, addictive read that I couldn’t put down! This was my first time reading Poppy Dennison but I’m adding her to my alerts list and going to check out what other stories she has available.

Sweet, fun and enjoyable story about falling in love with the hot guy at work. Writing flows so well and the characters are well drawn. I love the extended family and the variety of characters that have been skillfully created. Blake's little girl is just a delightful add to the story.

Blake and Linc are both great guys who really fit together and enjoy each other in all the best ways. Nothing in life is perfect and their challenge is their job and how they work through that is their biggest challenge.

This is the beginning of a series and the author did an amazing job of telling us Blake and Linc's story and introducing us to the rest of the family. I know i am so looking forward to Kale's story that is coming out next.

This is a wonderful read!

Oy, so many uncles and cousins!

The story is low on angst, and more of a feel-good story.

The drama is created in the MCs' mind and was a little tame in my opinion. I also feel there were some missed opportunities drama-wise such as Linc's playboy ways, Blake's (adorable) daughter, Blake's grief etc. that would have made for more interesting drama and interesting story.

I adored the extended family, especially how they all took to Blake's daughter, and there are several of the characters I would like to know more about (Micah and Kale, you feel me?)

What can I say. I adored this story. A wonderfully written second chance story with a gorgeous little princess sidekick. Two incredible strong men, hawt sex, times I wanted to slap them both for being idiots and a few tears and lots of laughs. An incredible cast of supporting characters, a bump along the road and a happily ever after. I am looking forward to reading more of this series.

To Blake and Linc the hard or easy task of open a new series, that of Bartlett boys. They do it in lovely way. So much love, friendship and family in this story that is been a joy reading it. I liked especially as Poppy Dennison has concentrated her effort on the better parts of Linc and Blake lifes. For example, little space on the past playboy life by Linc and bad the end of previous marriage by Blake,so little angst.

I’ve never read an m/m romance where one of the protagonists had a child, and at first, I wasn’t sure I’d like it. But I’m happy to report that I loved this story. Blake and Linc’s love story was sweet and sexy and you definitely come away feeling happy and lighthearted. The only thing about the book that I had trouble with was the sheer volume of characters (the Bartlett family is HUGE). But I can honestly say, I’m so glad I read this and I cannot wait for the next installment!
