For use in Churches, small groups, and for your own devotional time, 40 Prayers for the Christmas Season provides simple, accessible prayers for use between Christmas and Epiphany. Adapted from the popular 500 Prayers series and written in everyday language, this book is the perfect resource to help mark one of the most important seasons in the Christian calendar—yet one often neglected in the demands of Christmas and the New Year.
I don't know how it's possible to get a book of Christmas prayers so wrong. But he's managed it.
I found myself amazed again and again. I didn't think it was possible to pray for someone and simultaneously degrade them with smug patronising judgementalism. He's pulled it off.
The theology was tepid at best; often just really bad.
I really wanted some rich, warm reflections on the gospel in the context of the beautiful Christmas story. We just never got there.
The prayers included in this book were really good ones, and I can see this being a good church resource. My only complaint is that I wish it had been better organized especially with a sort of subject index or at least a more detailed table of contents. But the general headings would probably work for most people. I just prefer a little more detail when trying to access what could be considered a reference book.
The prayers in this book are perfect for this time of year. We have so many occasions to pray with and for others. Sometimes in the busyness of the Season we are in such a hurry to get to the next thing that our prayers become a bit mechanical. BUT if you keep this volume handy you'll have the right words at the right time and all will be blessed.
Good prayers for use in churches, small groups, or family devotions. Note for American readers - some of the words are in British English but can be easily adapted. I especially liked the “think of someone” prayer prompts. Prayers not only for Christmas but all other times too.
The simplicity of these prayers, the heartfelt words immediately shifted me into a place of devotion and an audience with the King of Kings. God, give a hunger for communication with You!
Christmas prayers divided into sections. Some are very short while others are 2 pages long. Prayers written down by a Methodist minister to encourage your own prayer life. I enjoyed these prayers!
