My Italian edition of "The Moreton Scandal" is an abridged version, roughly 100 pages shorter than the original. This significantly trimmed length transforms it from a traditional category romance novel into something closer to a fast-paced novella.

While the pacing occasionally felt rushed and the omissions were noticeable, I largely enjoyed Catherine and William's story. One specific scene stood out: both William's wife and his lover appearing at a reception wearing identical emerald necklaces. This moment of striking irony will certainly stay with me, especially given William's underlying cynicism about his wife's motives, making his identical gifts a strange act of placing both women on a perceived "equal" footing in his mind.

Although I haven't read the first book in the series, it's clear its events deeply influenced the hero's perspective on women. I would have appreciated the opportunity to read the previous story to fully grasp the nuances of his character.

Content warning: this novel includes scenes of forced intimacy, that some readers may find upsetting or triggering.
