What a positive, practical book, not just for teens but for anyone, and honestly, I think that even the most self-assured person has moments when they experience self-doubt, so anyone can benefit from the tasks and reflections the author shares. This is clear and logical, making it easy for readers to step outside of the emotions that are holding them back, and discover more about themselves and how to deal with the stresses of life. Self-love, which often takes a backseat to fulfilling the needs of others, is a focus, a reminder that we need to place a priority on our needs to be our best selves and enjoy life to the fullest.

A great gift idea for graduating teens and college students, and of course, for anyone struggling with self-esteem, dealing with negative people, or looking for an uplifting, empowering, and enlightening read to enhance their own life experience.

This is a well written, thoughtfully compiled self-help book focusing on understanding ourselves. Reading the note from the author at the end of the book helps with understanding the author’s motivation for her in-depth analysis of the frailties of the human mind and body. Having suffered a traumatic teenage roller coaster road of emotions and insecurities, Jacqui Letran uses her experiences to write a blueprint for combating a now common teenage problem.
Whilst the target reader is the troubled teenager, there are messages here to be learned by us all. Some we already know, it is more a case of recognizing the signals our mind and body is sending out and how to react positively. Others are not so obvious, but again when we read the no-nonsense analysis and recommended reaction we can harness the power of positive thinking to counter any negativity.
Any teenager struggling with depression, bullying or self-doubt would find this book a Godsend. They are not alone; all problems can be solved.

This is a fun book that gives plenty of insight into working with your anxiety and self esteem and so enabling you to build confidence. Aimed at both teens and young adults alike it gives plenty of hints and tips and exercises. However I would say it's even a book for an older adult. We can all learn something from this.

There's no groundbreaking information here but it does read well and consolidates any other reading you may have done.

Really good book. Free arc from netgalley

This is an unusual book for me to review, as I’m not into self-help books as a general rule and this particular book is directed at teens, of whom I am not one. Nevertheless, this is an engaging, interesting read.
It’s very well-written, with clear easily understandable prose and a logical structure. The book comes from the premise that teens suffering from low self-esteem, depression or anxiety (so about 99% of them I suspect) can help themselves: become more confident and outgoing and happy, through tapping into their own seven inner super-powers (ISPs). The seven super-powers are: words, body, imagination, courage, forgiveness, love, and perseverance. It might seem puzzling that words or even body can be inner super-powers, but that’s all made clear in the text and is perfectly coherent.
Each of these ISPs is given a chapter whereby its importance to a person’s overall well-being is discussed is clear yet not condescending terms, and then followed up by chapters on putting that new understanding into action in real-life, through self-reflection and action.
I’ve got some experience in this field – I worked with very disturbed teens for some years – and I don’t think this book is aimed primarily at those kind of kids: they were hard-end and probably a lot of them had never read a book. Which is not to say that they couldn’t benefit from the techniques and programme set out here, but I suspect this book’s real usefulness would be to more average teens suffering from the more usual teen anxieties and feelings of worthlessness, being awkward, not fitting in – all the things that make the teenage years such a joy.
It could actually also benefit adults looking for a simple programme to bolster their confidence and self-esteem. I especially liked the sections on love, and how self-love is so important yet tends to be looked down upon in our culture as selfish and egotistical.
If there is a downside, it’s that the sections on the subconscious made me a little uneasy as being rather too simplistic to the point of inaccuracy, but that’s an academic point. Within the context of the book’s aim, that depiction serves its purpose and works perfectly as a way to describe how we undermine ourselves.
A valuable and thoughtful, positive read.

Unleash Your Inner Super Powers: and destroy fear and self-doubt, by Jacqui Letran, is actually ground-level material about how anyone can improve their perspective, their state of mind and their potential for success. This is not lofty material, it is simple, fundamental and powerful stuff because it addresses the very pillars of what makes us US. If you browsed through the book, you might think that it’s an over-simplification of things we all know, and to a degree, they are things which we have all heard before one way or another. However, the author presents them in such a way that it opens one up to new perspectives and she uses lots of anecdotes to make them very real to us. The book includes exercises so that the reader can practice each principle presented and gain more familiarity and confidence in using them. Only the most calloused of persons could possibly read this book and not find some insight on how to brighten their life. Recommended reading for all ages, teen on up.

A book for teens on how to conquer your anxiety and self-doubt and increase your self confidence.

It's a book that could be read by all ages, not just teens.

In each chapter is a workbook so you get to work on your issues while reading the book. Having workbooks is something that teenagers are familiar with at school, so this format works well, and (hopefully) stops them from reading the whole book through without taking any action.

If your teen is struggling with self confidence and suffers with anxiety, this would be a good book to purchase for them.

I do love a self-help book and they are usually my go to Aiport buys. This one is well written and delivers some strong messages, and a good dollop of motivation which is what these books are all about. If you want to release a little of your inner positivism then I can recommend this read.

If you have a superhero-loving teen in your life (who doesn't!?), and they struggle with self-esteem and motivation, this could be the book you need to get. Even not-so-teenage readers might find some confidence here.

Read More Book Reviews on my blog It's Good To Read

Summary:
A self-help book ostensibly aimed at teens, it offers guidelines to those suffering with self-esteem issues, confidence, and/or anxiety. It takes the approach of advocating seven Inner Super Powers, or ISP’s, that taken as a whole will transform the person into someone who is more confident and self-aware, and is comfortable with themselves.

The subject matter is adolescent psychology, happiness and emotions, and self-help techniques. This is a topic way outside of my zone of familiarity, so I was intrigued to open it and find out what was going on.

Main Characters:
The “characters” in this case are the Individual Super Powers of:

1: Words:

2: Body

3: Imagination

4: Courage

5: Forgiveness

6: Love

7: Perseverance

Plot:
This is a good read, nothing hugely original or controversial but succinct and in easily-digestible prose. Beginning with “It’s all in your mind” the author talks about the power of the sub-conscious, then how to command it. The advice is “focus on the outcome you want” and use appropriate words to drill it home to your subconscious mind.

Each chapter is well laid-out, and each follows a similar structure.

It describes the particular power and why it IS such a power. The author then lists out many ways how we can turn that power upon ourselves, or react to the way OTHER people use the power to internalise and make us feel bad about ourselves (e.g. people criticising an achievement you thought was amazing), destroying our fragile ego, focusing on the I Can’t instead of the I Can.

The author then focuses on ways and means to destroy Fear and Doubt using that particular ISP, through assumed scenarios, and desired actions/outcomes. We are then invited to a little self-reflection, by completing an open-ended narrative of 5/6 questions.

The author then moves into the meat of the chapter, by outlining various exercises we can follow, which will allow us to “tap into” the particular ISP. There is a bonus chapter at the end, on how to release your unwanted emotions.

What I Liked:
- The steps flow easily, and are simple to understand.
- Overflows with positivity

What I Didn’t Like:
- There is no new insight here, rather a concise repackaging of standard themes and solutions.
- I could not see, other than her Nursing Masters degree, whether the author had specific training in the field, which tends to water down the credibility.

Overall:
This is a nice book to have, it speaks to a particular audience who may find it helpful. Anything that has as its aim helping people who are struggling, and need a little perspective and guidance, is to be welcomed.

I liked the positivity, that nothing is insurmountable, but think there could be more in the way of “hard” methodology, instead of someone seemingly having to work it out by themselves. While of course people must take responsibility for themselves, I would like to have seen a more holistic approach taken.

In summary, there is really nothing new or ground-breaking in this book, but the material is presented in a clear, precise way.

Acknowledgements:
Thanks to NetGalley and the author for sending me a free copy of this book, in return for an honest review.

I received a free no obligation copy from the author.

I was keen to read this book, as it appears to be geared up for teens according to the inside content of the book, so I am Letran's target market as I have a bookshelf full of self-help books and a teenage daughter who suffers with anxiety.

However, in a book market saturated with self-help tomes, uniqueness in the marketplace and why your book is different from the rest is so important. But I felt with Letran's book there wasn't anything unique that hasn't been said thousands of times by many other authors. 'The Secret', obviously being the mother of all of them in terms of influence.

Letran's unique USP should be focused on teens but seems more generalised. I bought Goldie Hawn's book for example, which I got for my daughter several years ago, called 'Ten Mindful Minutes' which is geared up to Goldie's work in schools and specifically towards teens. If this is part of a teen series, I would have liked to have seen that focused on more, detailing more teen issues, maybe with case studies that teens suffer with, and how this helped them rather than a generalised step by step guide that could be for anyone.

I would have also preferred to see Letrans credentials up front in the first chapter with more info on how her techniques influenced her life, rather than just being pregnant at 16 on social security and later working in adolescent health to show why she has the experience to write this. Maybe the author went into this in her earlier books, but I still felt more could have been added, if this is also supposed to be a standalone - because all I was thinking was 'well how do you have the expertise to know all this' and there wasn't enough info in terms of life experience or credentials to tell me that.

On a more positive note, Letran comprehensively lays out with simple instructions how someone can connect with their ISP - 'inner super powers', (another phrase for intuition) - deal with subconscious fears and letting go of fear. And this is a book aiming to help others, whoever reads it, and we can never get enough of that. So if you want a book that can help you focus on the positives and tap into your intuition, for yourself or your teen, then this is certainly worth a read.

Thank you BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book - all opinions are my own.

This was a terrific, easy to read and completely practical self-help book, which, while written for teens, could arguably be a great read for anyone. Jacqui Letran is on point with so much of the content of this book, and it brings forward thoughtful, insightful and mindful ways of looking at how to be comfortable as yourself.

I really liked the focus on finding happiness within your existing everyday life, versus, having to make crazy changes to be able to be happy. It felt realistic and completely attainable and should be exactly what we are teaching not just teens, but adults everywhere in this social media age.

The content was clear, logical and well laid out, and made complete sense in figuring out how to recognize feelings within yourself, and how to address those feelings in a positive and healthy manner.

Overall, I think this book is awesome - a must read for anyone who wants to keep building up their lives in positive, happy and meaningful ways.

It’s All In the Mind

Do you often feel as though other people were better than you? Well, this book says it’s all in your mind. And it does a great job of demonstrating same with simple logic, offering useful tips on how to discard unwanted emotions, destroy fear and self-doubt, and persevere.

Unleash Your Inner Superpowers is more than a motivational book, it offers intelligent discourse on self-discovery. Though designed as a teen series, its teachings and arguments, if applied, can be beneficial to anyone in any age group. Packed with subtle, wide-ranging explanation, from the power of words to the power of imagination, to the power of forgiveness, and to the power of love, the book takes the reader through a series of guided tasks and self-reflection that are constructive, insightful, and realistic. Highly recommended.

A well-written self-help book directed at teens, Unleash Your Inner Super Powers has crossover appeal. It focuses on improving one’s self-esteem, something most of us could use. I particularly liked the sections on adding the word “yet” to negative statements (I can’t fandango YET) to suggest a future where you will do what you can’t do now.

Letran writes engagingly and with bucket loads of positivity. My only caveat is that the book is text heavy with no graphs or pictures. This feels a little old-fashioned since it’s designed to be consumed by a generation raised on visual mediums.

was sent a copy of this book for my independent honest review. This is an excellent book for anyone wanting to improve their self confidence, reduce self doubt and negativity. Although primarily aimed at a teen audience, I found this to be the best in this genre for a long time and therefore accessible and applicable to people of all ages. The chapters are very informative in clear and concise language. I especially loved the workbook element attached to each subject so that the exercises can be done at the same time as the theory which for me as a health and wellbeing practitioner is especially useful. A great resource for professionals and for all of us to

A brilliant read for teens struggling with today’s frantic lifestyle and a great tool for parents, grandparents and teen mentors.
I was surprised to learn that we can actually exchange any emotion we are feeling in favour of one we choose; for example we can swap anxiousness for calmness, at will.
I found myself really relating to the scenarios and realising we can all draw on our own inner super powers to achieve our potential.
If only I’d read this book when I was a teen! I can see how we truly are the maker of our own destiny.

I love the helpful, simple exercises that drive home the point being made and actually help people on their personal journeys, especially when they begin to doubt themselves. Why this aimed so directly for teens? I am unfortunately way past my teen years but struggling with a lack of self confidence and found this insightful and helpful. I think because it is straight forward straight talking it was clear and easy to read and follow, I wasn't bogged down with the mumbo-jumbo. Certainly a really useful read for any teenager or older who wants to understand themselves a bit more but also a great tool for parents, grandparents, teachers etc to support those in their care

This book is not just for young adults, I learned so much that I will also use. Unleashing your inner supers powers is a great name for a book as it encourages you to explore that part of you. I wish t had when I was younger. So many ideas to help yourself do that which makes you somewhat uneasy but not overwhemed. I feel it every time , I go to my closet. Jeans or a dress and jeans usually win. A dress next time after I try the exercises made in this book. I loved it and recommend it highly.
