When it comes to Celtic traditions, Druids, and Faeries, I’m not that knowledgeable. The topic interests me, though, and since this book was recommended I thought I’d try it, which turned out to be a good choice. There’s plenty of great information on Celtic Wicca beliefs, history, and rituals.
The author provides a fair bit of historical info on the origins of Druidism and Celtic tradition as well as more modern Wicca practices. In fact, this book contains so much information that it seemed a little too dense at times. In places, I wanted the author to explain a little further. Other times there was unnecessary repetition, or at least it seemed so, given that I read the book straight through.
There were a couple of places where long lists would have been better placed in an appendix. On the other hand, lists did break up the density. The exercises at the end of chapters will be helpful to those seriously interested in experimenting with basic Wicca practices. Although this book is a good way to gain an overview of Celtic traditions, it’s really an introduction to further study. Fortunately, the author provides a comprehensive list of reading resources to explore this fascinating topic.
An interesting insight into Celtic traditions that had made me wonder about my own roots and whatever happened to our family's ancestral beliefs. Read this book with an open mind. Sirona Knight works hard to convert her reader.
