Looking out her window on Christmas Eve, the author introduces the numbers from one to twelve as she spies several animals nestled in the boughs of an evergreen tree.
This one courtesy of an Interlibrary Loan from Lewis & Clark College. Not an author I was familiar with. But a really nice afterword. Given how unknown this author is, it makes me wonder whether anyone but the super top-tier authors will make it much after they did.
This book is a counting book. It is a picture book with a lot of words, a few too many. The art is pretty good but doesn't really blow me away. There is no through story. And the idea of it being a Christmas Tree feels a bit forced and unnecessary. The choice of animals is a bit unusual and has some facts of which I was not aware.
Not bad and really doesn't feel that old (Original copyright is 1986). 3.5 of 5
A wonderful book for children and adults to share. The story is based on the twelve days of Christmas but with a twist. Beautifully told in rhyme about animals in nature and with fabulous illustrations. This book should be in every home at Christmas time and read year after year by both children and to children that cannot yet read themselves. A great book for learning to count as well.
