The inimitable Casey Jones is back in "Bad Moon on the Rise," sixth in the Casey Jones mystery series by Katy Munger. When a young basketball star and his drug-addicted mother disappear without a trace, the boy's ailing grandmother begs a reluctant Casey to find him before she dies. But even the normally unflappable Casey Jones is thrown for a loop when she discovers evidence of a murder in their wake and uncovers a shocking secret about the identity of the boy's father. When the case gets very personal, Casey has a difficult time separating her professional and personal judgment - with disastrous results that put her freedom at peril and endanger the boy's wellbeing. In this sixth Casey Jones mystery, kick-ass P.I. Casey is back with her trademark irreverence and a cast of supporting characters her fans have come to love, including her whale-sized boss, Bobby D., the ever-intrepid Marcus Dupree, Bill Butler, an old country boy flame and a new man in uniform who may just eclipse them all in Casey's heart. "Bad Moon on the Rise" offers readers plenty of action, plenty of humor and plenty for Casey fans to enjoy.

I don't know where to start on this review - this book had it all - comedy directed respectfully at serious subjects, exciting story line as well as laugh out loud situations with a hilarious yet capable heroine protagonist - great writing style, from start to finish, I stayed up until 1:30 am because I couldn't put it down. (and Im old and usually asleep by 10;30) Found on FreeBooksy, its a wonderful way to "try out" a new author - but come to find out this writer is quite prolific and I need to get busy!
I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline. The down to earth heroine she was so funny sometimes I found myself laughing out loud, which made my puppy dog Look at me wondering what was so funny. Story is well written, little or few typos. Even though I had guessed the ending still kept my attention. I did have some sexual scenes but not overly graphic not my cup of tea... But you can skim over and not miss anything.
I mistakenly thought that “Bad Moon On The Rise” was the last in the Casey Jones series. If it were it would be the perfect end to a highly enjoyable series. Luckily I have one more book to go. This time round Casey is helping a dying grandmother local her missing grandson, a promising basketball player, who has disappeared along with his addict mother. This is a novel which deals with addiction and the terrible ways in which it ruins lives:- “Like the most beautiful homecoming queen this town has ever seen reduced to being a toothless hag at age twenty-six, with three starving kids, trying to sell blow jobs behind the Dew Drop Inn to score her next meth fix. Like fourteen-year-old boys in borrowed trucks flying off of bluffs and dying surrounded by hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of illegal drugs, drugs that disappear between the time I find their bodies and I can get someone to go pick up the pieces for their parents.” To get to the truth Casey has to dig deep, face her greatest fear, and return to the lowest point in her life. And, when she is at her lowest ebb, Bobby D. (mostly present until now for comic effect) shows both ingenuity and a completely unexpected heroism. It's a grim story but one that is laced with humour, not all of it black. It has multiple endings, all of them satisfying. I only give 5 Stars to books that have stayed with me over the decades but “Bad Moon of the Rise” is a strong contender. 4.5 Stars.
BMOtR was a rollercoaster of a read. The mystery as it were takes a back seat to Casey's turmoil when goes undercover and a lot of family drama for her client. Getting into Casey's head while she was undercover was so interesting. Unfortunately, she has a stretch of TSTL afterwards that nearly killed the book for me.
I was surprised by the Burly's involvement in the case but it was pretty well done. Ramsey plays a pivotal role in the latter half and it was nice to have him back. The women at the prison were a trip. Everything involving Trey was bittersweet. Corndog Sally was a scene stealer.
This was a decent ending of KM never writes another. Casey got closure.
I LOVED it! The storyline was gripping. At times I was on the edge of my seat and couldn't put it down. At other times I had to laugh out loud. All of the characters were great. They are people you would want as your friends. After reading the first book, I had to read them all. I can't wait for the next Casey Jones Mystery!
If you are from the south, and are ready to laugh for days... Casey Jones is your girl.. though she would probably slap you bald-headed if you called her that. Another great story, Ms. Munger, and I look forward to another wild ride into Casey's world very soon! A big thumbs up!
I am glad I didn't give up on this series. When I started the first book , I almost quit reading halfway through, by the end i was interested enough to go for the second. I have enjoyed the series very much and hate to see the end . Give this series a try and just enjoy the stories.
I love this writer! Listen, okay, sure the books are a bit dated...cell phones are pretty new in most of them. That said, the dialogue is witty, the heroine is bold and ballsy, she's got the coolest friends, and the storyline is interesting. They are worth a read!
A good read for people who are in to the series recommend highly can't wait for the next one of the series a really enjoyable read but quick shaping up to be a enjoyable series must read the next one of the series
Munger writes the best Casey Jones yet with the sixth in the series.
Great characters continue to build layer after layer with each book. I've enjoyed all the books in this series and highly recommend this book to fans of the contemporary romantic suspense genre .
Fun and witty dialogue. Interesting and well-developed characters. Sexy men. Action-packed. Thorough plot. Lovable heroine. My first time reading this author but I'm definitely going to read all of the books about Casey.
Casey Jones is not your typical Private Investigator. In fact, she's not even a legal one. But with the help of her friends, she gets the job done. Lots of suspense, many anxious moments, some hard reality, and a woman of... well, like I said, she gets the job done. A very entertaining story.
This book was very well written. The suspense was carried out through the whole book. The book kept your interest and I had a difficult time putting the book down.
I love this & I can't wait for more. I will be also leaving a review on Goodreads @ Amazon. And letting everyone know about it. So i gave it a 5 Stars.
Probably more like 3.5 stars. Was nice to visit with Casey Jones again and the story was a good one. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't kept picking it up and putting it down. Still a pretty good read.
Clever and entertaining! Katy Munger's Casey Jones is a spunky, saucy protagonist. Lots of laugh-out loud moments, and some touching ones as well. I enjoyed this quick read.
