Another thrilling novel of the war at sea from the author of Tug of War and Flotilla Attack . Already two German battleships, Scharnhorst and Gneisenau , had slipped through the English Channel under the bows of the British Fleet. Now, the Third Reich's largest and most deadly warship, the Tirpitz , had only one possible destination on Europe's Atlantic the formidable dry dock of St Nazaire. HMS Rose , aged and jinxed destroyer, was detailed to join the daring mission to destroy the entire dry dock of St Nazaire. She found herself not, as planned, backing up Operation Chariot as a troop ship, but fighting alone in the icy, fogbound seas--shot to hell and 300 miles between her and home . . .
This is a fairly decent read with the action parts of the story well described and vivid. A few parts are a touch ridiculous, the part where Wide Boy try’s to fight some American Navy men is a bit pointless and any victim seems to always lose their head! Some parts of the story narrative feel like they were being written for a film not book, however it’s not a bad fiction account of the raid at St Nazaire

This story is as accurate a description of the St Nazaire raid that I have ever read,Fact mixed with fiction makes a compelling story about a successful raid that won at least one VC medal and with ships name changes is also chronicled in the movie The Gift Horse.
