A silly twist on the classic tale. The school principal bakes a gingerbread cookie and brings it to school in his lunchbox. When the principal opens his lunchbox, the gingerbread kid winks and jumps off the desk. Where is he off to in such a hurry?
NY Times bestselling children's book author: GODDESS GIRLS series + HEROES IN TRAINING series (w Suzanne Williams); THIS LITTLE TRAILBLAZER a Girl Power Primer; ZERO THE HERO; I AM THE SHARK. Lucky to be doing what I love!

I am giving this 4 stars because the gingerbread kid got eaten. My 3 kids couldn't even believe how rotten this thing acted. I know that's the point of the story but still. The illustrations were very good in this book.
Wanted to do a gingerbread man lesson and there are so many versions of the story. Another teacher gave me this one and I love it! I love that the boy wants to read instead of chasing the gingerbread kid. So cute!
This book was a pretty good book because it had a lesson that was a very good lesson. It told you that don't think things before you don't know. My favorite character was the dog, Max. He was the smartest because he caught the cookie.
LFL find. Leveled reader, also (I think) a textbook supplement, at least this edition. Very short and silly. But the twist made me grin. A kid who likes to read plays the part of the clever fox.
what? Ginger bread kid ran away. people at school ran after the ginger bread man. why? Ginger bread kid made trouble while running away.
Main idea- Ginger bread kid made(caused) trouble at school. Ginger bread kid made a mess of school.
Q1. Who baked the gingerbread? - the principle Q2. Who chased the gingerbread? - the principle, gym coaches, lunch ladies, teachers Q3. Who caught the ginger bread kid? How did he/she catch the ginger bread kid? - a smart kid -
This story was great and entertaining. I loved how the author had everyone chasing the gingerbread until he came to the boy in the library and then he was halted to a stop! The boy ended up not chasing him and so the gingerbread felt no need to run! However its funny that it all starts over again as the several people before that had been chasing him arrive at the library and the gingerbread jumps out the window running again! Great stuff.
An easy-to-read Gingerbread Man set in a school setting with a cast that includes a principal, gym coaches, and lunch ladies. A nice twist that the fox is replaced by a smart boy in the library who would rather read than chase the Gingerbread Kid. The clever use of numbers makes this a useful preschool concept book.
Fun twist on the original gingerbread story. This book would be great to read with a class when you are making gingerbread houses. Awesome book for children who are just starting to read, because it has a repeated chorus throughout the book. Younger children really get into this book and find it very amusing!
Holub,J. "The gingerbread kid goes to school". (2002). New York: Scholastic.
A twist on the traditional 'Gingerbread Man' story, this one substitutes a Gingerbread kid who runs rampant through a school, causing chaos and mayhem. Kids will especially love the refrain, "I'm the Gingerbread Kid. I'm fast as can be. You can run, run, run. But you can't catch me!"
This book has a pattern similar to that of the original Gingerbread Man. This has great illustrations with a lot of engaging details. This version has a humorous twist at the end.
