It’s a children’s adaptation of the original, so not that best writing. But overall, it was pretty good and exciting. My son was captivated by the story of fighting monsters of the sea and being captured by the mad man Captain Nemo.
He didn’t like how it ended. Too abruptly. But I thought it was a fun and enjoyable read aloud.
Read this classic aloud to my son, and it held his interest which can be quite challenging. The pictures certainly helped in that regard.
Jules Verne's classic (as adapted by DF Grund) is uncontestably a classic of science fiction. Whooo though, be prepared for some old-timey adventuring around the world mostly by killing different animals and running from "savages".
How many times can you read a classic? Many times. You might have heard about it. You might have watched the movie. You might have stumbled upon the book in the children section and taken it home and read before you sleep. Then you grow up and get busy with school and life gets in the way. Then you forgot about how much you liking it when you are a child. Then the name of the author get mentioned in a movie you were watching and suddenly it all came back to you. Verne. Then you looked up and down for the copy of book you used to own. It is all dusty now. But you took the book and sit on an easy chair and started reading again. It feels as if you are back in the Nautilus and Captain Nemo has never left.
Wow. Just an excellent book for young boys. Action, adventure, exploration, undersea wonders. So much fun. My boys aged 9-4 loved every minute. This version was so watered down though, now I want to read the real thing for myself.
I read this adapted version for children to my boys at bedtime over a few nights. At times it was interesting, but not really my favorite. The boys seemed to like it though.
I read this book with my younger kids. Not one of my favorites, though my boys loved learning about all the sea creatures throughout the book. They thoroughly enjoyed it.
