Picture book with great watercolor artwork and good message. The Barrington RI library presented this book in an interesting way--The cover, and all pages were protected from the elements with a plastic laminate and then individually placed in order on a trail running from the library to the Barrington River. Took the walk and read the book with the two granddaughters, their dad, and my wife. Played at the river at the end.

Helen Ward has written and illustrated a gentle, moving book that celebrates the wonder of friendship. Snutt, a sweet little creature with large, brown eyes, finds himself alone on a new world. It is a beautiful world, full of amazing things, but he finds himself unable to enjoy it because of the loneliness in his heart. When he meets up with a cute little Waft, though, the world- and the creatures themselves- bloom in totally unexpected ways! My children love to read this book at bedtime, along with classics such as "Goodnight Moon" and "Guess How Much I Love You".

This book was... not good on the first reading. When we read it the second time though I spent more time explaining the illustrations and pointing out the things that were happening when we suddenly realized... Snutt blossoms!!! It was really cool. I'm pretty sure I mispronounced many if not all of the character names. I've never been good at sounding things out. The illustrations are beautiful!
