Rate this book
She's a ghost with a disreputable past...and a heavenly mission.

With her trademark blend of sparkling humor and sizzling romance, Emily Carmichael has earned a legion of devoted fans. Now she returns to delight readers with a wickedly delicious tale of modern love--and some old-fashioned meddling....

Once, sultry Robin Rowe was the hottest madam in the whole Wild West. Then a jealous suitor shot her dead. But when the wicked Red Robin departed this life, she didn't depart this world. Instead she found herself hanging around, watching as her daughter and her daughter's daughters made first-class fools of themselves over the wrong men...until now, a hundred years later, Robin has just one descendant left.

It doesn't take a genius to see that bright, beautiful, mistrustful Maggie Potter is headed for spinsterhood. So when fate drops her on Robin's doorstep, the sexy ghost jumps at the chance to straighten out her great-great-granddaughter. Only Robin doesn't know how challenging the job of guiding Maggie's love life is going to be. For Maggie's on vacation from men--maybe even a permanent leave of absence. Still, Robin didn't get to be the most successful tart in town by giving up. Now she's prepared to do everything in her ghostly power to see that Maggie lands herself the perfect man, even if she has to teach Maggie her most erotic secrets....

Awful, awful, awful. There WERE some humorous bits in this book for sure, but mostly it infuriated me. So many reviewers called this book light and quirky. Clearly they were not reading the same book I was. Or maybe it was just all my buttons being pushed in the worst ways. The 'hero' Colby was smarmy and manipulative, he lied to Maggie (the 'heroine') over and again - for her own good, of course (though it never was). He used her, invaded her privacy, sneak searched her papers, set out to blackmail her cooperation, etc. But he's a journalist after an important story, so he repeatedly excuses his own crap behavior. Later he feels a bit bad about it, though he never actually apologizes. Maggie is infuriated by his betrayal, consistently refers to herself as a fool, but revoltingly she has trouble resisting his lusty self. Oh yes, it's always such an enjoyable read when the woman being treated like dirt still yearns for the ass-hat man wiping his feet all over her doormat self. So fun. The ghost is a total bitch, at one point actually taking possession of Maggie, tarting her up and climbing on Colby the jerk. He is aware something is amiss, but rolls with it anyway. The whole thing was just yuck.

A fun read. The Ghost is a Madam from western days that was shot to death while she was in the outhouse. She helps her Granddaughter find true love.

I love books with ghosts. They've always been enjoyable reads for me. Emily Carmichael's ghost was especially hilarious in this one. I loved her sass and charm, and I don't blame her for not wanting to leave the in. She ended up being my favorite part of the book.

While the book was good and the ghost kept me entertained, I thought the story was a bit long and too drawn out. There were scenes and subplots that did not, in my opinion, move the story along, and I got a bit bored during certain sections.

That said, though, I definitely like Emily Carmichael's writing style. She has a way with story-telling. I just thought the book could have been a bit shorter and still have told the same story.

I love, love, love this book! It has history, politics, intrigue, romance, a vagabond cat, an ornery bird and a ghost! What more do you need?

Maggie gets blamed for a political scandal, so she goes off to Arizona to visit her sister. They take a road trip and end up in the little town of Jerome. There's a house on the hill that calls to them, so they buy it with intentions of turning it into a bed-and-breakfast. They begin some remodel work, but they soon discover that the lovely old house has a history! And a ghost! And one of their first guests is a tall, dark and handsome ---- political reporter! Traveling undercover! Not fair, not fair at all.....

This was a clever, humorous book by Emily Carmichael. I listened to this and just couldn't stop! In this book you have a meddling ghostly madam of another century trying to find love for her last surviving descendant. You have two sisters (actually step-sisters) that decide to open a bed and breakfast in historic Jerome, AZ. There is much that happens during this book and one of my favorite characters is the ghost, of course. Part is narrated by her and part has a neutral narrator. I highly recommend this to anyone that wants a laugh. The audio was done by one of my favorite audio readers and she makes the book even better.
