Denise Skelton is an avid reader who's often found reading four or five books simultaneously. Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, Denise is a part of a close-knit family and is lovingly supported by her husband, three daughters and two sons. Skelton draws inspiration from everyday life. As a US Army veteran, and former private investigator, who's just about seen it all, she often awakes with exciting new creative ideas flowing through her mind like a river of words.
Acclaimed author Holly Chase Williams, said, "The emotional satisfaction you experienced as My Everything's mysteries were solved and the conflicts resolved stuck with you long after you turned the final page".
Author Denise Skelton is the romance author of such books as: My Angel, My Everything, and Forgotten Promises. She proclaims she must always have a happy ending and that she finds it most difficult to write about herself. She resides in Columbia, Maryland with her family. As things appear to go from bad to worse for Terry Meyers, she decides it’s time to take control of her life. First, handle her deadbeat ex-husband, who seems to have forgotten Terry and their two sons when he left them for a younger woman and started a new family. Second, find a new career since she just got fired from her customer service job at the mall. And third, swear off all men, as she has a disastrous history of choosing the wrong men, always ending up hurt or used… Until now. When Wade Nelson runs into Terry at the grocery store, he just had to help her out of a predicament. After moving back to Chicago to work as the new English teacher, Wade also has another agenda for being in Chicago, and falling in love isn’t it. But Terry finds herself in unusual situations that Wade is compelled to bail her out of, and now the woman sworn off men and the man not wanting to settle down are rethinking their minds. First, I want to mention that I truly appreciate what the author tried to do here in this book by bringing two different cultures and races together; Terry being an African-American, and Wade being a Malaysian born American. Readers can learn about the Malaysian culture without realizing it. Also, bringing to life the struggles of a divorced single mother, with a teenager and young son to raise, money tight, and an ex who won’t pay child support or makes excuses not to see his kids. In saying that, this book just failed to deliver and wasn’t for me. There was a lot of info-dumping, meaning too much too soon, and the plot jumped a lot, slowing the book down. Without giving too much away, the real reason and mystery behind Wade being back in Chicago was poorly executed and not very interesting because of that. Mostly, the heroine, Terry, was completely unrelatable, making me not care what happened to her. Examples: She runs into an ex and decides to give him another try. While at his apartment, when he’s in the other room, she steals money from his wallet. She gets fired from her job, a job she needs to feed her kids and pay the mortgage, because she’s talking on her cell phone and repeatedly ignoring a customer. Also, the cover just doesn’t seem to fit with Wade’s heritage. Not recommended.
I very rarely saddle books with one star ratings, just like I rarely award books five stars, both cases have to be extreme. Until Now, I spent more time throwing the book against the wall than I did actually reading it. I might have been able to get past the author's writing style, which I would equate with demonstrative speech giving 101 - "first this happened, then she did that and after, he said this..." If that was the only problem I might have rated this a two, maybe. But the so called 'heroine' was a mean spirited, nasty, sarcastic bitch. Now, sarcasm and I go way back, we're very close friends in fact. But the only way the relationship works is with humor. Sarcasm without humor is just obnoxious and that's the best way to describe Terry. I'm sure the author was going for cute and snarky but...EPIC FAIL! As Terry states herself, she used to be worse. Worse than stealing money from a date's wallet? Really??? Even her best friends treat her warily, and this woman is raising two boys! Motherhood a la Terry The Bitch: "What are you doing in your room that you need to have the door closed?" "Nothing" "Then you need to leave the door open." "But, it's my room; I should be able to close the door when I want to." "No, it's my room. I'm just letting you use it until you move out. And I'd like for you to leave the door open, unless you're changing your clothes." This is a conversation that she has with her teenage son. What teenager doesn't need - not just want, but need - privacy and a sense of ownership? Oh well, not in Terry's house. She's struggling to feed, clothe and house her children so what does Terry do? Lose her job for being obnoxiously, ridiculously rude to a customer. There's good life planning for ya! Ok, breathe Penney, breathe. I'm getting angry all over again and I've only touched the tip of the iceberg that is Terry's stupidity. I think I should wrap it up before I chuck the computer against the wall as well.
Now, I ask you, how am I supposed to get behind this 'romantic relationship' when one half of the equation is totally unworthy???
Terry Meyers is a recent divorcee with 2 sons and more money problems than she can handle. The ex-husband won’t help, and her hot temper gets her in too much trouble to hang on to her job. She swears off men for one year as she tries to put her life and career on the right track. Well, she tries to swear off men.
Until now is a smart, clever, and funny romantic story of two people who are trying to make a good life from a bad start. Watching Terry have to deal with her children, her niece, an ex, and a new hot guy makes this book a fun read. The situations in which the character finds herself are comical. OK, she doesn’t FIND herself in them; she quite handily makes them happen all by herself. Wade, is almost the perfect man, but struggles with harsh family problems.
I enjoyed Until Now very much. Although there are a few sex scenes, the majority of the book is about Terry’s life, friends, and family.
I REALLY wanted to ENJOY this book...but it just didn't work for me...and I was TEMPTED several times to put it down and NOT finish it at all...the storyline is ALL over the place and for lack of a better word "choppy" in some areas...the author tries to squeeze too much into one story and some of the details are UNNECESSARY...and the heroine, Terry just comes off as RIDICULOUS...the antics and/or situations she put herself in are UNBELIEVABLY idiotic...especially considering she's a mother...and I found it difficult to like her at times...and I thought Wade, the hero was CRAZY to want to "hook-up" with her...in short the story is just NOT put together VERY well...DEFINITELY a bit disappointing and silly!
The ending is what got this book the 5 stars. It was a really slow start that drug along with no real kick. But the ending was the greatest. The scene with them breaking into Wade's apartment----well let's just say I laughed (out loud) until I cried. And only got better from there. Would have loved to know what happened after David senior left the house after his naked adventure.
I loved this book I did not know I would like Terry but I really rooted for her and her children , The comedy is this book will make you choke laughing;I cried too because I really felt the heartache of the children and Terry worrying about them. The author did a wonderful job of telling Terry and Wade's story and I got the privilege of reading a good book.
This book is the third one in a trilogy. I read Dee’s story but did not read Holly’s. I was totally shocked to see that TERRY was the main female character in this one. She did some really heinous stuff in the first book so much so that I had to go back and reread some of the first book. How could she be redeemed? Terry is now a single parent to two boys. Terry received some karma from her actions but Ms. Skelton made her character humorous and wacky; I totally enjoyed her growth and her attempts to make better choices. Both Dee and Holly have forgiven her and she is an important part of their lives. Wade meets Terry when her oldest son gets into trouble at school. He is not whom he appears to be and the story slowly inserts them into each other’s worlds. Fun story with a slow burn and tons of humor.
Bought this a few years ago. I decided to reread all Skelton's other books, after finishing her most recent work. I was reminded of why I love her work.I laughed, cried and cussed , (David Sr), while reading. Couldn't put my kindle down.
This was one of the funniest books I have ever read.
When I found out it was Terry's story I was a bit wary and didnt think I would like it, but I was soon proven wrong after I read how much Terry's character had matured after 10 years.
Her antics and how she keeps getting into compromising positions and bumping into Wade at the same time had be peeling over in laughter. It gives you a bit of seriousness of her situation along with a humorous twist that will have you reading more and more until you find yourself at the end, still wanting more.
I will definitely read this ebook again and will be searching for the paperback! I recommend this to anyone who is going through and needs that laugh lift them up.
I couldn't even finish it...It just was not interesting to me. She was doing way too much and it took way tooooo long for the main characters to meet if you asked me. I gave it a 2 because it had some moments that made me smile but that was very little. It just didn't call to me...so, it's on to the next book. Ok so I went back and finished it wade and terry got better in the end. It was still an ok book to me
Okay...So did not like the Heroine but loved the Hero and thought he could do better. Plus she was horrible in the previous parts of the series. However, I thought the author did a great job at making this character unique. I really loved that she got into trouble and took care with her children. She seemed the most real out of all the characters i know to date because she had so many flaws.
The story and writing kept me reading and I finished it in a day. It isn’t so much a romance as a family drama with two people who need to find each other. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Great read. I loved how Terry's character was able to redeem herslf of past mistakes and find her own way to move forward to a better life and find true love along the way. Loved the entire trilogy.
