A new model for treating the devastating effects of emotional abuse
Emotional Abuse provides a clear road map for therapists to guide them through the intricacies of treating emotionally-abused victims. Any therapist working with emotionally-abused clients will find this a most useful text. --Jeffrey T. Mitchell, president, International Critical Incident Stress Foundation
Marti Tamm Loring uses her own research and clinical work with emotionally abused women to explore the components of both overt and covert abuse and to map out for mental health practitioners a new model for its treatment.
This book is very well documented and using real cases to examplify most of the very disturbing patterns that exists between the perpetrator and the victim.
I read it for personal reasons and some personal insight. The book is a very strong asset for professionals to help victims of emotional abuse to walk away from it and validating their symptoms typically associated with emotional covert or overt abuse. It emphasises a lot on how to work with a victim's self-esteem in reconstructing hope for the future.
I am not per se victim of overt emotional abuse, but some passages where very hard for me to read and triggered some rather unpleasant souvenirs. So be careful when reading this book.
Mostly about hetero verbal abuse. Touches on emotional abuse in other forms. Uses he/him/his to refer to abusers and she/her/hers to refer to survivors like please relax lol. Was a little helpful but kind of frustrating.
Again, reading this book as a requirement towards a certification in DV. Case studies and therapeutic approaches to working with emotionally abused victims. Not a pleasure read.
