2009 Xerox Award winner. Birdcage Bottom publisher JT sent me this as a free add on to the 2018 Kickstarter line. Thanks !

5 stories. “Old Man Winter”is the strongest of the lot although “ Road trip” is a powerfully written and drawn rumination on the meat industry. The other 3 stories were a bit hit or miss. This came out in 2009 and I’m glad to see that JT is still drawing, publishing and running his distro.

This book has 5 stories in it and I love them all but my favorites are “Old Man Winter” (I think it’s really sad & got me thinking about future me) and “Logging Sanjay” (I think it’s funny!)

And it’s super amazing that, without any written words, “Roadtrip” has so many messages behind it.

Other thing I like is how great J.T.’s drawings are. All the details like the characters’ facial expressions, “lightning” within the room, stack of boxes on the shelves, etc.
I’d like to describe his work in this book as “the drawings here are B&W but he makes it feels like they’re colorful”. He really put a lot of work within each panel! :)

The title story was the most affecting for me, a straightforward well-observed tale about a lonely man and a surprising lot to unpack from the dialogue. I'm not the best audience for prank stories because I don't like them in general and in this specific one I empathized with the family being freaked out more than found any of it funny. The cow narrative was heavy handed.

Pretty good small collection of minicomics. The art is great. A couple of them had animal rights themes, which I enjoyed.
