Some hard truths surround this good, and underrated series. It all comes together with a Kitty Pride led remembrance service for the many, and I mean many fallen. Such a mature 'young X-men' series.

his very 'adult' Childhood's End takes its title literally. Although a weak 7 out of 12, I had to give this book 3 stars just for Emma Frost's dressing down of (Civil War) Captain Marvel... so On Point, asking minorities (mutants) to fight for humans... yet where were the humans when the mutants were being massacred, when the mutant children were being blown up!

Another solid volume in a darker X-Men tale than most.

So the new kids on the block had it rough last few weeks. You know with crazy religious pieces of shit coming into the mansion and gunning down kids. So now the avengers stop by to help but Emma shows them how bad it truly was. The New X-Men also feel hurt, damaged, not being able to find their way. However when a android creature similar to Ultron (Sorry never heard of him) comes into play and starts going after the kids they must work together to survive!

Good: The dialog has gotten better and better. I love when the kids all work as a team and really start kicking ass. The fights work even if a little samey from every issue they are fun. Also how badass was that moment where a certain mutant gets his powers unlocks and turns into a fucking super saiyan? Badass.

Bad: The villain here wasn't really that interesting for me. Also the side story with the fallen X-men and him going evil was kind of whatevas. Also, I'm all for ladies in thongs and such but anyone else feel a bit weird seeing 15-16 year olds with clothes barely clothed? Ah fuck it, comics.

Overall this was a ton of fun. Plenty of action. Darker than usual but it was still enjoyable. A good conclusion to this three part arc! A 3 out of 5.

The finale to the original arc of "Childhood's End" is a good one that allows the New X-Men to come into their own against one of the Old X-Men's deadliest foes (Nimrod). Highpoints of this story include the team really working together and also really welcoming Laura as one of their own. Oh, and the wonderful, wonderful attention to classic X-Men continuity. It's also nice to see Forge involved in this story ... because it just makes sense. (The low point? A whole bunch of fighting spread over multiple issues.)

I felt like this was definitely the strongest component of Kyle & Yost's run on New X-Men, featuring a classic X-Villain from the future, memorable appearances by several Avengers and former X-Man Forge, and standout opportunities for each of the X-Men in training to shine and showcase surprising new ways in which their powers could be utilized.

Not much actual story here. But there's lots of fighting. And the girls get to be mostly naked. And time-travel. Sigh. There's actually some good stuff in here but not much of it. When Emma Frost is carrying the human element of the story you know the book is struggling. Not a bad read. Just not all that good.

Did not realize that this was third book in the storyline. I don't think it is necessary to pick up the previous ones to get this. Very cool that they brought Nimrod into this one book.

As the superhero Civil War rages, the young mutants of the Xavier Institute reel from a series of devastating losses. When the futuristic Sentinel Nimrod is reactivated those young mutants have to take on the threat, despite knowing that it almost certainly means their deaths.

This was actually my first encounter with this particular iteration of the young X-Men and the only character I really knew was X-23. Despite that, this book very quickly got me invested in the plight of these young mutants.
They've lived though M-Day, are living in a mutant ghetto 'protected' by the Sentinels of the O*N*E, and have seen dozens of their friends and fellow students murdered by the mutant-hating zealots known as the Purifiers. They are very much beaten down and defeated when this story begins and then they have to muster the strength and determination to face Nimrod, a foe far beyond their weight class in terms of power. It was very easy to become emotionally invested in their story.

I also liked the scene where Carol Danvers (in her Ms Marvel incarnation) arrives as the Institute seeking to recruit the X-Men for Iron Man's pro-Registration side of the Civil War but is then given a thorough dressing-down by Emma Frost, who uses her powers to highlight for Carol all of the times the Avengers were conveniently absent when mutants were being persecuted. It not only conveys the justifiable bitterness Emma feels but also points out the hypocrisies of Carol and her ilk.

Overall, despite not having read volume 1 and 2 (at least not yet) I really enjoyed this book.

Continuing the great X-read of 2017 that has now stretched into 2018...

Okay. So I am way behind on reviewing these x-books that I have been reading. So I am going to just kind of ramble about all of them and copy/paste my thoughts. Which will make for a bit of a mess and I am sorry. Quick ramblings:

Cable and Deadpool continues to be surprisingly good though a little more scattered in these couple of volumes.
X-Men the Blood of Apocalypse was rushed in my opinion...
Phoenix Warsong was pretty decent. Melodramatic but not a bad story. (and when is a Phoenix story not melodramatic?)
New X-Men is a good series with some great characters that grow volume by volume.
Uncanny First Foursaken was not my cup of tea really.
Black Panther: The Bride was probably much better to BP readers. As part of an X-Men run, it can probably be skipped.
Wolverine Origins born in blood was not particularly memorable.
Astonishing X-Men will possibly get its own review as it is a reread and interesting as such...
Civil War was one of the first times in my life that I could say that the movie was better than the book. For the most part, it was really boring to me. The X-Men universe tie-ins were only slightly more interesting to me.
X-factor continues to be a delight.
Exiles continues to be great.

I need to get back to writing reviews of these as I finish them. Reading them in quick succession like this, I begin to forget what happened in individual books (which I suppose equally speaks to the books themselves and my memory...)

No deja de resultarme curioso toparme a los Nimrods en otras historias después de ver el potencial destructivo que tienen en la era Hickman.

Y a ver si los críos pueden empezar a remontar un poco antes de meterse en el fregao de Complejo de Mesías. Me ha gustado muchísimo la conversación entre Emma y Carol Danvers porque deja clara una de las verdades más incómodas de Marvel: al resto del universo lo que le pase a los mutantes se la suda. Por eso sienta tan bien ver cómo en Krakoa son ellos los que tienen la sartén por el mango.

Y con el número dedicado a Kevin me he reído porque no había caído en que él era uno de los secuaces de Selene en Necrosha. Ir leyendo hacia delante y atrás da resultados curiosos.

yessss, i teared up like three times, let’s go!!! emma’s words to carol moved me so much and i was like… that’s my goat right there… fuck it, i love her so much, her character is so peak!!! i loved this just for the characterization of her right there. the fight with nimrod was so good and so emotional. all of these new x-men are amazing characters. and now i’m salty that julian and laura got broken up because?? they’re cooking. all the character dynamics - platonic, familial, romantic - are cooking. the end with the remembrance of the fallen mutants was so sad. i was so engaged, this is lovely.

I loved this volume! Eventhough I had no idea who Nimrod or Forge were... But that didn't really matter. I loved how Emma Frost set Capt. Marvel in her place. Normally I love the Avengers, but the way she put it... Yeah, they never helped the X-Men at all. They have been through some crap, but no Avengers were there ever to help them, bastards. I am really starting to love Laura and hope she will be in more X-Men stories :)

Kyle & Yost finish off this arc excellently, bringing in a strong villain and allowing the team to come together in a way they somehow having in the previous 20+ issues.

Nothing at all groundbreaking but a very enjoyable read, exactly what I hope for from an x-men book.

Things go on as they have been -- grimdark, with yet more characters being killed off. It was very sad. As other reviewers have noted, not only was Emma Frost dressed in her usual style of scanty clothing, but the teenaged girls, except for Dust, were wearing very skimpy clothes, too.

DAGNABIT I THOUGHT JAY WAS GONNA MAKE IT! Other than that, I'm still enjoying this series.

So, Stryker is dead, but the Nimrod he found has just come online. Which is like, really bad for the muties. Jay is dead (may he RIP in peace), but he tried to write a word in his blood before he died. The New X-men figure out that he was trying to spell nimrod. Ms. Marvel and Iron Man come to the institute and suggest something that makes Emma Frost real mad. No one's really listening to the kids, so they decide to go after the nimrod themselves. They blow it up, Elixer heals X and turns gold again. Oh, and Wither meets... Miss Sinister (?) or some other hoochy lady and kisses her for some reason.

Before I say what I liked about the book, I gotta do a quick rant. I hate this art. X-23 would never wear some hoochy corset thingy. Shes a trained assassin so she would wear something that she could easily fight in and that doesn't leave her too exposed. What she was wearing in the first issue was great. I want that back.

Anyway, setting that aside, I did enjoy this book. I thought the story was really well done and everything resolved in a reasonable way. I'm glad Elixer made it, and I think it makes sense that healing someone would heal himself and killing someone would make him cuckoo for coco puffs. I'm interested and slightly worried about where this thing with Wither is gonna go.

These are some pretty good characters in my opinion, too. Hellion is definently growing on me, because I like how he doesn't give a rip about putting himself in danger for his team. I like that about Surge too. I think Rockslide is pretty good comedic relief, and Mercury's a solid girl scout character. And of course, I still love anything to do with X-23.

I've gotta talk about Jay, though. Man, that was really sad. I really thought he was gonna live because of his healing factor, so I was expecting him to eventually come back. I mean, his mom was taking it way too well, and I never even got to see how Cannonball and Husk reacted. That being said, I think it was really well written because of those things. I'm still really bummed about him, and he was only actually there for like one scene!

I'm really liking where this series is going so far. It's much more than if expect from a comic with "new" in the title. Good stuff.

There are some decent moments in this third volume of the Childhood's End storyline but most of the time traveling evil sentinel plot is pretty daft and probably difficult to follow if you haven't been reading X-books your entire life.

While the end result, including Kitty Pryde's memorial for many of (but not all, because who has the page space) the characters who've died in the X-Men books, was sweet and long-term earned, the actual action in this book was mostly scattered and not nearly as strong as the two previous volumes.

The Wither arc, in particular is pretty terrible. How many times are they going to let him run away from the X-Mansion and get trapped in some plot where he or the people around him kill people? Is there no mutant DSS?

I expected a little more teen angst in this and was surprised that the point of this series wasn't so juvenile. Good art by Paco Medina. The story wasn't too inspired, but the characters were interesting. I also enjoyed the nod to the original appearance of Nimrod from back in the 80's that most modern readers would not normally get.

Kyle and Yost just pile on the emotional punches. Nimrod was very much a coming-of-age for many members of this team. It was great to see them come together, and see the bonds between them form much stronger. The story with Wither was tragic. This volume makes me want to reread all of Kyle and Yost's work.

Art was good too. It's perfect for a teen character driven book.
