1) Started to throw the book, metaphorically, across the room when I read he broke up with his love slave of six months via email. That trumps Berger's Post-it note debacle on Sex and the City.

2) Second attempt at throwing my computer is when the h's idiot best friend writes the billionaire, lover extraordinaire and all around asshat to let him know about the love child in defiance of the h's wish.

3) The heroine decides to keep the baby secret which I have no problem with as he was married and lied about his life not to mention the cowardly custard dumping via email. She finds out the H is married via an article about his wedding and wife. But wait!

It turns out the H WAS married SIXTEEN YEARS AGO and has been widowed for fifteen which tells me that the h forged her nursing degree because she (a) can not read or (b) is too stupid. Really, something that important and you didn't read the whole article? I would at least want to know what her dress looked like.

The initial conflict of the story - pediatrician hero jilts nurse heroine by e-mail, then heroine reads a tabloid that shows his wedding photos (never finishing the article that explains the wife died 15 years before) and decides not to tell him about her pregnancy - is over about a third of the way through the story. The hero returns (after a "friend" of the heroine tattles to him), angry that the heroine kept her pregnancy a secret.

The rest of the story is the hero trying to convince the heroine to marry him. He goes about it in the wrong way - showing off his wealth, buying the wrong house*, wooing her with a makeover and clothes to attend a charity ball.

* It is the wrong house because

The heroine adds to her own suffering by not explaining her big secret, but it gives the reader a chance to recover from the jilt-by-email and see that the hero is really trying.

I'm still not sold on the idea that the hero would have returned to the heroine if she hadn't been pregnant - but Sarah Morgan has painted a rosy picture and if they are both happy, who am I to rain on their parade?

One fun detail is the heroine living on a houseboat and the inconvenience of that decision. Heroine might be great at her job, but she seems to lack common sense in all other areas. (Such as not reading the whole article before deciding the hero is committing adultery. )

This is a medical and the H/h are in pediatrics. There are kids in peril in this story. No one dies, but little ones do suffer, so beware if that is triggering.

Nikos is the greatest doctor who ever lived. He’s handsome, robotically precise with a scalpel, and he saves babies. Those other doctors, they just stand around wringing their hands and whispering about hospital protocol, but not Nikos. He’s there to save lives, dammit.

Nurse Ella basks in the glow of his amazingness and hands him scalpels and informs him about sats. She doesn’t trust handsome men, but she’s made a six month exception for Nikos. ‘Why don’t we go back to your place?’ she asks him. ‘No, we always go to your place, and have toasted cheese sandwiches. It’s our thing.’

Ella agrees that it is their thing, and has been their thing for six months. She’s not pointing out that she would like a change, you must understand. She’s just … putting it out there. Six months, really? Thinks Nikos. Ah well, time to move along. He heads back to Greece and dumps her over email.

Then, Ella learns that she’s pregnant. And, she picks up a magazine in her GP’s office and discovers that Nikos is a billionaire. A married billionaire! A married billionaire who has just now dumped her via email!

Four months later Ella is working at a new hospital, and her BFF is helping her move to a canal boat. Her friend does not at all think that it’s a good idea for a pregnant lady to live on a canal boat in the middle of almost nowhere. She also does not think it’s a good idea for Ella to go through this alone, so she’s contacted Nikos. Why didn’t Ella tell her that he was married? If she'd known maybe she wouldn't have been such a busybody plot device. She’s really sorry.

So it turns out that Nikos has accepted a job at Ella’s new hospital, even though he’s such a star that he could work anywhere. He’s a professor as well as a saviour. And, by the way, he’s absolutely furious with her for denying him the right to know his child. They will be married immediately!

Ella is all, wow he is still so attractive and dynamic but no! He’s a billionaire and married and she can’t trust him. No, Nikos tells her. He’s not married. If she’d read the text on the article, she would have discovered that they were wedding photos from 16 years ago, and published on the anniversary of his wife’s death.

I puzzled over this detail for quite some time. I mean, it has to work as a mechanism to get Ella to think that he’s married so she won’t contact him, but why is this magazine putting in wedding photos of a dead woman? If it was a crass magazine and the woman was mildly famous it would make sense, but a crass magazine would put a big black banner across the photo saying ‘tragic crash, billionaire’s heartbreak,’ or something. Anyway, Ella (finally!) Googles Nikos and discovers he’s told her the truth. He lost his wife and his daughter tragically young, and she realises that this is probably why he’s so closed off.

The rule in HP romances appears to be that good girls don’t Google. I think it’s the equivalent of when the hero has the heroine investigated and the heroine says that she’s been violated. Googling someone is basically stalking and unforgivable. Ella gets a pass because Nikos has effectively invited her to check the facts. She’s still very angry and hurt about his billions, because it says a lot about what he thought about her.

This is my second read, and I like this book. Sarah Morgan's medicals aren’t my favourites, and I have a dim recollection that there’s another very similar storyline with a nurse, a secret child and cheese on toast that I liked slightly more. Nikos is unreasonable about a great many things and just shrugs it off by saying that he’s Greek. I do mostly get the sense that he’s crazy about Ella, even when he’s in full on alpha mode. Ella has a very sad background story and is sweetly funny about the canal boat, which was really a very bad idea.

Very enjoyable read for me, this was actually my first "medical". It should have, and could have, been a 5 star read. But it seemed like the core conflict was forgotten....the fact that heroine deserved someone who would love her for herself, not for the baby she was carrying.

And how could she trust someone who lied to her about his identity and discarded her by email. Frankly, an emotionally well-adjusted person wouldn't have gotten over such hideous treatment.. I'm not sure how this heroine with her trust issues did so quickly with his simplistic explanation. It just didn't make sense. ultimately there was an unsatisfying explanation by hero of why he dumped heroine by email (so he wouldn't be tempted to sleep with her....he took the easy way out. after 6 months together? Sure, it was easier. It would always be easier to dump someone by fax or email. But a truly horrible thing to do.).

Also, the fact that he dumped her because he suspected that she had feelings for him and stayed away 4 months until learning of her pregnancy really belied his claim that he would have wanted to marry her even without the baby. He clearly did want the baby. But he was not intending to come back from his fancy lifestyle for the simple nurse with whom he was slumming in her little bed. Sure, he was hurt 15 years ago but he wasn't totally dysfunctional...he had a wonderful, loving extended family and no excuse to treat heroine so harshly. I wanted to believe in their love because there were so many great interactions but hero's love for heroine ultimately wasn't believable.

Intense and emotional read, but I had a hard time connecting with the H and h.

I especially struggled with the friend who found it necessary to write to the hero about the baby. It just seemed so wrong that a friend would betray a secret and trust. What right did the friend have to make a judgment call on the situation. With friends like that, who needs enemies.

The fact that the heroine accepted what her friend did with lukewarm apathy, made her seem like a doormat at anyone's disposal.

After sleeping together for 6 months, he abruptly breaks up with her via email, moves away and never speaks to or sees her again. The same day he leaves, she finds out she is pregnant, and from a magazine in the doctor's waiting room, finds out that he is both married and a billionaire. So, she's pretty heartbroken and cries herself to sleep for 4 months. Pregnancy hormones, you know. But then, her meddling friend contacts him to tell him she's pregnant. He shows up at her work, where he's taken a job, without any warning, and is like, you're pregnant, therefore we are back together and getting married. She's still into him, but at the same time, she's like I can never trust you again since you lied to me. Then it turns out his wife had died so he was not actually married but she is still angry and can't trust him because he never told her he was a billionaire.

And I was like, WAIT HOLD UP. That's why you can't trust him??? What about the fact that he broke up with you via email, never spoke to you again, and only came back because he found out you were pregnant? Who gives a shit that he was secretly a billionaire? You knew he was a doctor, so it's not like you didn't know he was somewhat wealthy. What about the fact that he only came back for the baby and, although he is still hot for your body, does not appear to love and respect you at all? Why do keep harping on the billionaire thing?! Why are you more embarrassed about the fact that you fed him toast (instead of fancy billionaire food?) than the fact that he treated you like shit?

I mean, seriously, she won't get over the billionaire thing (I am over typing the word billionaire already) but she does not seem to care about anything that actually matters in human relationships. Being a billionaire (ugh) is probably good for the baby, she can get child support (instead she's like, I don't want your money; I'm like, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU) but his actual actions, like abandoning her on a dime, not caring about her or her feelings, would make him a bad father.

Meanwhile, he is all, God, I will never understand women. I offered to marry her, doesn't she realize how lucky she is? So many women want to marry me because I'm a billionaire.

I was like, YOU ARE BOTH SO DUMB. I'm out.

The review was posted at Tsuki’s Book Blog on Monday June 10th.

I typically love Sarah Morgan books. I'm not a huge angst lover but her books always have just enough angst to make it worthwhile but not overwhelming. Out of all of her books that I've read this one disappointed me the most. It was a random read for me when I needed something quick during a lunch break at work but it wasn't quite what I was looking for.

Ella and Nikos had a secret relationship at the hospital where they both worked. When it appeared Ella was getting too close to Nikos, he breaks up with her via email. At that point she discovers she's pregnant and the Nikos was actually a billionaire. Oh yeah, and the pictures in the magazine show his wife. Understandably Ella is upset when Nikos enters her life again due a meddling friend. Nikos demands marriage and to be a part of his child's life while offering little of his backstory in return. As they begin to come together they move to a home where Ella suffers silently with a secret from her past.

Usually Sarah Morgan's books contain seemingly effortless angst. The story flows perfectly, introducing backstory and moments of sadness into the plot when it seems perfectly necessary to do. All the stories connect and all the moments flow until you realize you've read the whole book in the matter of a couple of hours.

This one was different. The characters were not nearly as fleshed out as her other works. I cared very little for either, especially Ella. She was a blithering idiot for the most part. There she was pregnant and alone and she moved into a houseboat in a secluded, wooded area. Hello serial killer, party of one! On top of that she rode a bike. A bike!

Nikos, on the other hand, seemed completely unaware of his douchebaggery. He told his lover nothing. He never invited her to where he was staying. He never told her about his past or why he was so protective of his rights as a father and her protection. He just believed he was right regardless of the damage he was doling out on Ella. Great doctor, sucky person.

The whole house conflict bothered me to no end. It seemed completely unnecessary and really only explained Ella's commitment issues. That also seemed a bit concocted for some easy conflict. She seemed ready to settle down with Nikos in the beginning and all the sudden she had zero trust (somewhat understandable) and flaming commitment issues. Seriously see a therapist!

I just wrestled time and time again with this book. I felt the plotting was amateurish and rushed. Most of the conflict was unnecessary and the characters flat. I loved Once a Ferrara Wife so much and I hated to put a low star on this book. I hope my future dealings with this wonderful author are better.

This book was good for the Heart! Ella, and Nikos were in a relationship for 6 months. When Niko realized he was starting to have feelings for Ella, He got scared, and ended it. I didn’t like the way he ended it, it was by a email. The same day Ella received the email, she found out she was pregnant. Four months latter Ella’s close friend wrote to Niko and told him Ella was pregnant with his child. He came to her, and they worked together at the same hospital. Tempers flared, and you got feel the emotions of both Niko, and Ella. Niko wanted to marry Ella, and Ella kept saying no, and giving him back his ring. Niko was sweet, he was not one to give up on something or in this case someone he wanted. Both Niko, and Ella had tragic events happen in their lifes that shaped who they are today. Both were protecting their hearts, so they wouldn’t get hurt again. They had to take a chance, and open up to each other about their past, and what had hurt them in life. Once they did break though those walls, it brought them closer. This book touched my heart.

Sample from chapter 5
“Theos mou, what happened? Who has hurt you? Tell me! His strong hands closed over her shoulders and Ella launched herself against his powerful chest. He braced his legs to steady them both, his arms closing round her protectively as she burst into sobs. “Talk to me!” Ella ignored his urgent command and clung to him, so relieved that he was there that she was totally unable to speak he swore fluently in English, then switched to Greek as he scooped her up in his arms and sat with her cradled on his lap. She didn’t understand a work he was saying, but his deep, strong voice was so reassuringly male that she didn’t care. “Hush, now. Stop crying,” His hand infinitely gentle, he stroked her hair away from her face as if she were a child. “Tell me what happened. What was it that frightened you?”

Reading Harlequin Presents has been one of my guilty pleasures. Harlequin always provided me books that have just enough angst if I'm in the mood for those. And it always cheered me up. Whenever I start reading HQ, I'm getting and can usually enjoy it no matter how the author spins it.

This love story sizzles off of the pages even from the start. Six months ago, Ella and the sexy Greek Billionaire Doctor Nikos Mariakos were in a happy relationship, or so she thought until Nikos unexpectedly ended the relationship via email, and to make matters worst, she learned that she was pregnant with his baby the same day and that he was married. Then Nikos learned about her pregnancy, and that changed everything. So he came back, and this time he will never leave her no matter what.

Sarah Morgan creates a great heroine with Ella. She's smart, strong, kind-hearted, independent, and does stand up for herself. Not to mention Ella is well pictured in her kindness, especially during her duty as a pediatric nurse. And due to her past, Ella won't allow herself to trust a man. Her childhood taught her to guard her feelings, which is what she's done all her life - until that day, she meets Nikos Markos. And to be with him, she's broken both her rules. Don't trust. Don't Love. And when Nikos left her, she realized that loving someone with every beat of your heart didn't mean happy ever after.

It was very understandable why she didn't tell Nikos about the baby. And why she's wary of being around him again and turned down his marriage proposal, not after what happened and not after the way he broke up with her. Her strong resolved to say no to Nikos even though she loves him only shows that she's willing to move on if her life needs it.

Nikos Mariakos was such a wonderful hero. Well, there's one time that I thought he was a jerk because of the way he ended their relationship. But I'm glad that he was able to redeem himself throughout the story. He's such a perfect hero for Ella. He has the alpha qualities without being overzealous about using them to get her back.

Sarah Morgan has the ability to keep the focus on the emotional conflict instead of the external conflict. She knows how to twist this in just the right way until our hero and heroine get their Happy Ever After. I also enjoyed the humor element of the story. And their sexual chemistry and tension were off the charts! I would love an epilogue for this book, though.

I can't wait to read more from her in both the Presents line and the Medical line.

I don't read Harlequin Presents anymore but after reading several reviews I knew it would be one I would probably like and it was. Usually in Harlequin Presents the heroes are so arrogant and such horrible womanizers. Most of them come across as harsh, forceful, and mean. This story definitely was not bad like that. We don't come across past mistresses or the hero having slept with other women after having a relationship with the heroine. He was sweet for the most part. His actions were a little strange when he finds out that the heroine is pregnant and wants her to marry him out of nowhere when he left her. But overlooking that, he didn't seem crazy as the usual heroes I described above. The heroine was actually a little annoying when she wouldn't open up and explain why she kept saying no near the middle and end. And part of it was because of an occurrence at the house Nikos has bought for Ella and their child. I really did enjoy this story especially since some of it was at a hospital setting. In my opinion some of the parts were kind of amusing and the romance was good.

I would of loved an epilogue for this book. To find out more about the heroine's father and what made him cut off all contact after he moved. Her father apparently loved her and although he had a secret family and a wife that said she'd divorce him, that wouldn't keep me away from my children. The hero had some major issues that his first wife did to him as well. He actually had some sort of a god complex which will eventually burn out unless he finds a balance and I guess the heroine is just the balance he needs. I was a pretty intense book!

A very emotionally intense read, a high level of tension, two complicated characters with lots of baggage and lake of communication, a whirlwind affair, and an unexpected pregnancy. Most of the time I couldn't make my mind about Nikos. His ego is oversized and he just takes arrogance a step too far. But he finds his match in Ella. She is a strong and independent heroine, and she gives as much as she gets. In order to reach their HEA, they have to open up to each other and learn how to trust.

Liked the plot on the most part.

Favorite part was the charity auction. The temporary house was also funny with its proximity to wild life. It's obvious how caring Nikos is towards kids. My biggest issue is the double standard obstacle in the book. The one sided expectations was a turn off. Very immature.

The story felt like a Harlequin Presents story, to some extent, given the Greek billionaire hero and the somewhat doormat-ish nature of the heroine. But not to extremes that made it too hard for me to read. Actually, it was a good story. I liked it a lot.

I usually like Sarah Morgan, but this book had the WORST case of Body Betrayal Syndrome I have ever seen. The hero was an ass and has the gall to be angry that she didn't tell him about the baby when he broke up with her over email!

She is so hurt but every time she looks at him, her insides liquefy because he is so hot and she can't think straight. The clincher is when we reach the end of the book and he's trying to convince her that he broke up with her because he was developing feelings for her -- yes, he actually tries to use the break-up email as proof of his love -- and she swallows it hook, line, and sinker and is all misty-eyed and tells him she loves him, too. Don't believe me?

"You ended our relationship."

"Because I was afraid of what I was feeling for you." His voice was low and urgent. "Feelings that strong sometimes distort perception -- I thought you loved me but I'd made that mistake before."

"You left because you loved me?"

"Our relationship was becoming too intense."

"You ended us by email."

"You and I can't be in the same room and not make love, Ella," he said dryly. "If I'd ended it face to face, there would have been no ending. I needed to make you hate me."

I cannot believe Sarah Morgan wrote this drivel!

Ella is a hypocrite. She doesn't care about the money but uses it for her convenience. Other than that she's as dumb as the sauce pan. Why live in a canal boat? If you are poor as the author intended you to be why not live in a hospital dorm or something? And where did you put your salary?

Nikos is overrated.

Author made the girl dumb because of lack of details. In the six months that they were inseparable didn't she notice hints that this guy could be filthy rich? That after reading it in the magazine she was so shocked?

I also think that she needs psychiatric appointment. She makes everything over dramatic-with the house, the billionaire thing and the fact that she have spilt personality. The other one is loving the nature and all that and the other is scared of the owl and snail.

Too Many Secrets

For the most part, I felt this was an entertaining read. It had an easy flow for me--I was able to read it rather quickly. I thought the overall storyline was interesting, but I did not love the characters themselves as much as I would have liked to. I will admit, they pretty much deserved each other, but it is hard for me to believe in a HEA when BOTH characters are holding back pretty big secrets about themselves from each other. I wanted to really be on the h's side, but I felt she was as much at fault as the H for them not having a close relationship earlier on in the story.

There were some hits and misses on this books. I found it okay as a whole but there were some points when Ella really got on my nerve. She was prideful and didn't want to have some straight talk with Nikos. That was what really irked. Communication is key, my dear.

They were happy together until the six month mark when Ella starts to have feelings for Nikos. When he realizes it, he cuts all ties with her. That very same day, she finds out she's pregnant as well as he's married and a billionaire. Fast forward a few months and she's working in a new hospital and Nikos is joining the team as a pediatric specialist. They work well together, but sparks fly when he finds out she's pregnant and she confronts him about his wife and money.

At one point they travel to Greece to see his family and the acceptance of his family was wonderful. A lot of back and forth emotion wise between the two. A lot of this would have been perfect though if she didn't constantly throw it in his face that he's keeping secrets, but gets mad when he asks about her secrets. I'm not a fan of hypocrites. Other than that, the writing was good and the characters were exactly as you'd expect in a Harlequin romance.
