What a tremendous let down. Volume 1 had some fantastic stories. Volume 2 bored me to tears. Not sure what happened in between the two volumes being published, but this book was such a snore. Really disappointed.
The wide range of dates and nationalities made this anthology more interesting, as my enjoyment of the stories varied widely. Even stories that weren't my favorities brought something else with it, as each had a good (short) bio of the author that gave some context. A number of the stories had a whistful sadness -- I wonder if that is a characteristic of women authors, or maybe a choice of Susan Cahill?
