Napier is not particularly good history and is far surpassed by Oman in this topic, however his appeal is the colour he brings to his history and unfortunately it was a mistake to read this instead of going direct to the full history.

An absolute slog of a read. I found it very difficult to keep up with it. Wouldn't recommend unless desperate to read it

A good history, the best written around the time of the war and good but later overshadowed by Oman's much more objective Peninsular War.
