Christina Carthington is a young woman whose life is being turned upside down by her father, who has decided to chase his dreams without thought to his family; by a cad who is determined to possess her at all costs; and by her own mind. After a bout with pneumonia, she begins having vivid, realistic, and very disturbing dreams that warn her of a danger to herself and a people of whom she has no knowledge. Can Christina survive the barrage of perilous events long enough to interpret her visions?
“Dreamer of Destiny” is a captivating tale of premonition, peril, and personal strength that will keep readers turning pages well into the night. Barbara Woster has crafted an intricate web of mystery and emotion centred around Christina Carthington, a remarkable protagonist whose inner fortitude is tested at every turn.
The author skilfully builds Christina’s world, then systematically turns it upside down as the young woman faces a triple threat: her father’s impulsive pursuit of his own dreams at the family’s expense, the unwanted advances of a determined and manipulative suitor, and most disturbingly, a series of vivid dreams that begin after a serious bout with pneumonia. These dreams are not merely nightmares but seem to be urgent warnings of danger threatening both Christina and an unknown people she feels inexplicably connected to.
The strength of this novel lies in Christina’s character development. Despite the horrific circumstances thrust upon her, Christina demonstrates remarkable resilience and determination. She is a protagonist who feels authentically human in her vulnerabilities while inspiring in her courage. The author balances Christina’s moments of doubt with her emerging strength, creating a character readers will cheer for throughout her harrowing journey.
The plot unfolds with masterful pacing, alternating between heart-pounding moments of danger and quieter scenes of emotional depth. The dream sequences are particularly well-executed, blurring the line between reality and vision in ways that leave both Christina and the reader questioning what’s real. As Christina works to decode these mysterious premonitions before disaster strikes, the tension builds to a satisfying crescendo.
What elevates “Dreamer of Destiny” above similar novels is its perfect balance of drama and romance. The romantic elements never overwhelm the central mystery, but instead add emotional stakes to Christina’s journey. Her relationships feel authentic rather than contrived, making her choices and struggles all the more meaningful.
By the novel’s conclusion, readers will feel they’ve been on a transformative journey alongside Christina. “Dreamer of Destiny” ultimately delivers a powerful message about trusting one’s inner voice and finding strength in the most challenging circumstances—a testament to the Author’s skill as a storyteller.
Set in the 1800’s this is an intriguing heartfelt story. It is driven by a strong female lead in an era where strong females are scarce. A complicated story about blackmail and forced marriage for the love of family. It is a true puritanical tale. Really enjoyed the unhappy wife in a loveless relationship who finally discovers her soulmate. Very enjoyable read.
Its well written with an interesting plot but I never connected with the story. I liked Christina and Bay Wolf but I never found myself on the edge of my seat roofing for them.
I was really pleasantly surprised with this one. It was a freebie Kindle download from way back in February 2013 (see my blog: http://toodlesbookclub.blogspot.co.uk for details of personal challenge to find and read as many free downloads as possible in 2013).
I don't think under normal circumstances I would have gone near this kind of book ..... just shows though that trying something new does quite often pay off.
It was really very well written. There were the odd few typographical and grammatical errors (mostly the norm with ebooks, but I still continue to bang on about it).
The plot moved at a nice pace, with believable characterisation, with lots of little sprinkles of humour.
In fact I loved Christina, and the whole internal dialogue she had going on. That girl was definitely one tough cookie.
It did leave me wanting more, and this author is now on my list of "good story tellers".
Highly recommended, and probably a 4 star read on Amazon/Good Reads (not quite there for 5), and 4.5 on the blog.
I was fortunate to have won this book through Goodreads. When I received the book, the first page actually threw me off for some reason, and so it took me a bit to get into the storyline. Once in, the first half of the plot read through pretty quickly. I was a bit frustrated at Baying Wolf's anger and the inability for Christina to do anything- but isn't that the way it was in those times?
With all the tragedy that Christina underwent, it was good to see how she overcame her prejudice, anger, and was able to channel her second vision into reuniting with Baying Wolf.
I may reread this book, but it would be awhile before I picked this up again so I could digest Christina's life and her choices. I have to say, I did really like how Ms. Woster ended the book.
**2.5/3** The heroine was quirky, really liked the hero, and the story did keep me reading but there were quite a few portions I skimmed. Even though there were adult situations/scenes it felt more YA or for a much younger crowd. Some of the characters emotions seemed a bit over the top & I would like to strike the word blush from the english language. However, I enjoyed the last 15pgs they bumped my rating from 2 to 3.
This was a spectacular read. Difficult to put down. The trials that the main character, Christina, went through...well, there were times I laughed, cheered, cried, and wanted to strangle those trying to harm her. Highly recommended.
A wonderful novella about a journey of a beautiful lady becoming a woman. Her Dreams will help her find the way to battle her obstacles with strength & courage..Highly recommended for those who love a story with a difference and totally unpredictable.. Impressive Plot with strong characters..
