Writing became very important to Amanda early in life, and by the age of seven she was co-authoring a mystery series with friends. Time has passed, and she has gone on to write other genres. In 2009, her first book, The Keepers of Elenath, was released to a worldwide audience through Tate Publishing Company LLC.
These days, Amanda writes short stories, which can be found on her website www.amandabradburn.com, and spends most of her time bookstagramming (@amanda.the.bookish) and loving life at Latigo Ranch.
I thought The Keepers of Elenath was very good. The story is about a princess named Gwaeron who has many secrets about who she is and the strange gifts that she has. There is evil all around haunting the land and giving nightmares to Elenath and the others that are terrifying. There is also a young boy who vows to become a Knight. There are elfs, etels, gnomes, goblins, and of course evil forces. All these creatures are battling evil or joining evil and it is up to Gwaeron and the others to save the land from the evil that is taking over.
I did love how this story unfolded; however, I found it to be a bit hard to get in to. The beginning was a bit rough and it took me a while before I really understood what was going on and got involved with the story. You could tell that the author is young but I was surprised at how well this story grabbed my attention once I really got in to it. It is an action packed on the edge of your seat story. I love that his all my favorite things like princesses, knights, and dragons and of course a battle between good and evil. Although this story had a slow start, the plot and characters did greatly improve as you read it. I am looking forward to read the next book and to see where this journey is headed. I think that Amanda Bradburn is just going to keep getting better and better.
My favorite genre is fantasy. "The Keepers of Elenath" by Amanda Bradburn has everything I want in a fantasy. It is intelligently written, action packed, filled with interesting well fleshed out characters, nasty critters, scary bad guys, and a creative, interesting storyline that is unpredictable and hard to put down. The heroine of the story is likable, believable, and sympathetic. Christian symbolism is expertly woven into the story in such a way that is not easy to miss, yet at the same time it is not annoyingly obvious. What is obvious is that this new talent is someone to watch. I will be eagerly watching for the next installment of this exciting trilogy. Steve Groll author ~ “Beyond the Dead Forest”
I found "The Keepers of Elenath" an engrossing and enjoyable book. It had unique and memorable characters and original creatures, a good plot, a great message behind the story, and it was well-written and easy to read. I'm definitely going to check out book two!
A review for ReadersFavorite.com The Keepers of Elenath is overall a good story. The author has an Appendix at the end to help you figure out who the main characters are. I found this very helpful and have used the idea in my own books.
The story is about good people who want to save their beloved land from the darkness that wants to engulf them. Their hopes are set on the great king who created them all. Yet he can’t do it for himself nor he can force his love or peace to any of them. Many are still dulled to the idea that nothing is going on in their great country or that it is only the black queen that is the cause of their suffering. They are also others that aren’t yet ready to decide what side they will take if the impending war breaks out. This all changes when they realize that the queen isn’t working alone and that behind her is a greater evil; an evil that could overcome them easily.
Dark powers from a forgotten past have been gathering forces for centuries and are ready to take their place in the land. Many events have shown to those who are weary of looking for the signs that malignant times are there and the fulfillment of prophecies will come to pass in their lifetime. The only way they can conquer their enemy is for the humans, elfs, half elfs, etels, and gnomes to stand together in a task that can defeat the black forces.
This High Fantasy novel has good characters, although at times they seem to do things out of character. The story flows well. It could use a bit of editing to smooth some rough edges. At the very end is a letter or a prayer from the author to give the reader an idea of why she wrote this book and what she wishes for our future. This book would be love by all ages.
