Hoppy Hanukkah!

Violet and Simon, two small bunnies, are excited about Hanukkah. Simon is ready to light all the candles and then blow them right out! But Mama and Papa explain how to celebrate Hanukkah by lighting one candle each night at sunset and placing the menorah in the window for all to see. Grandma and Grandpa come over, too, and there are latkes and presents and a dreidel game. Linda Glaser's simple, cozy story is just right for children first learning about this holiday. Daniel Howarth's charming paintings show a happy family passing on their tradition.

A simple explanation of what families DO for Hanukkah, but no explanation of WHY it's done.

Let me start this by saying I’m not Jewish I checked this out at the library for my kids to read before bed I like to teach about different cultures. Now reading this as a person who only knows the bare minimum required to know about Hanukkah 🕎 I didn’t learn anything new but it’s for kids so my kids did. It did feel a bit short and not as creative as I would have liked but to teach small children about Hanukkah it did the job

Besides my love of Jewish books and my love of bunnies, I really like this book because it captures the exuberance of young children anticipating a holiday. Violet and Simon are very excited about Hanukkah and though they think that you make a wish and blow out the Hanukkah candles, they are introduced to the customs of Hanukkah without a heavy pedantic lesson or getting bogged down in the history and significance of the observance. And of course the emphasis on family time and the ending - What REALLY makes it feel like Hanukkah? YOU! - wraps up the story neatly. #Readukkah

This is a very endearing and fun book about a family of rabbits preparing for their Hanukkah celebration. I conducted a pretty thorough search to find a book for toddler/preschoolers that would capture the fun of Hanukkah and teach them a little about the holiday, while still holding their interest. This was the best book I found.
