این رساله از ابتدای شعر و حماسه در یونان، حدود پانصد قبل از میلاد تا پایان دوران درخشان امپراطوری یعنی قرن دوم بعد از میلاد را در بر می گیرد که بیشتر به "ادبیات دوره ی هلنی" مشهور اند و شامل شعر حماسی از پیش از "هومر" و سپس ادبیات دراماتیک تا دوران رمانس های اولیه ی در یونان است که با همت مترجمی چون ابراهیم یونسی به فارسی درآمده و 1358 توسط انتشارات امیر کبیر چاپ و منتشر شده است.
