Teachers all over the country also use the new edition of her third book, Blowing Away the State Writing Assessment Test , to help improve their students' scores on state writing assessment tests. Jane currently is writing three new books. In addition to writing books, Jane has given hundreds of workshops to fellow teachers around the country for the past ten years. Her subject? The same as in her classroom, where she happily taught elementary or middle school for more than 30 years -- teaching students to write well. In her three decades as a classroom teacher, Jane has served many years as various department chairpersons and grade-level chairperson. She is also a past president of the Alachua County Teachers of English. Jane has been recognized three times by "Who's Who Among America's Teachers." In 2002 she won Teacher of the Year for her school and Middle School Teacher of the Year for her county.

Jane Bell Kiester is an American educator and author best known for her Caught’ya! Grammar with a Giggle series, which uses humor and storytelling to make grammar instruction more engaging. Her popular titles include Giggles in the Middle and The Chortling Bard, designed for middle and high school students. She also wrote Blowing Away the State Writing Assessment Test and Teach Spelling So It Sticks!, offering practical strategies for writing and spelling instruction. Kiester has conducted workshops nationwide, helping educators improve language arts instruction through creative and effective methods.

I thoroughly enjoyed this fast-paced book packed with ideas for teaching grammar. Because I teach many of my students for two and even three years in a row, I am always looking for new ideas, ways to keep things fresh. I will definitely be trying out this low-pressure, high-engagement approach to teaching certain aspects of grammar this year.

As English teachers we realize the importance of teaching grammar in context, and this is a good beginning, a jumping-off point for addressing those issues that most plague our students' writing.

I recommend this book to all Language Arts teachers who are looking for fresh approaches and ways to infuse their lessons with variety--and humor.

I very much enjoyed reading this book, and was excited to start a story with my fourth grade class. Having completed my first year using this method, I am unconvinced of a lot of things that this book claims. I really liked the stories and ideas for creating your own, but I did not like the assessment portion of this book, and I found it tricky to implement it fully, given the guidance and suggestions of the author. I am nonetheless convinced that this idea, of providing short, linked and targeted surface feature lessons CAN work, I've just got to figure out how to make it work for me and my students best.
