I'm sorry, I just couldn't warm up to this book. Maybe because I hate sci-fi? No, not really. It was the just the sudden, jarring change of story within the series and the book itself that made me hate it. Really, I rarely use the word hate in reviewing stories, but this book, I was really disappointed. Mainly, because after seeing that Mallet was actually a nice guy, I was really looking forward to his story. Within the SBC setting. I was expecting him to overcome 'normal' recuperative obstacles and be back in the SBC ring, but did that happen? No.

Miss Foster took unpredictable to a new and thoroughly disappointing level. Not only did MMA and wimpy-male-in-female-dominated-world not mix well, but the whole pathetic-ness of the whole venture just irritated me a lot!

I loved the SBC series because of the camaraderie and the sense of family and belongingness on each book, cherishing the feel of being female in a safe, male machismo dominated world, but then, the Author just had to jerk the reigns and turn it into something... ugh (I just ran out of adjectives.)

Sure, the female was likeable enough, sort of, but the sudden jerk is what killed my interest.

I would honestly say that I didn't finish this book. I couldn't find it in my self to suffer through it, and I'm not a bloody masochist. I'm not about to read a book mainly to irritate myself.

Some might say that I didn't give this book a chance, but let me tell you, I managed to suffer through to the middle, and I just hated it so that I couldn't get myself to read anymore. It plainly sucked for me.

If I'd been forewarned that I'd be reading this as sci-fi or perhaps, I read it before the other SBC series, I could;ve found the fortitude to finish, but unfortunately, I started with Dean's story, with it being so good, that I expected it to last until the fourth book. Well, I was wrong. I even leafed to the last pages, to see, if there was some sort of compromise, after ending the friggin war, they would go back to Mallet's time, but did they? No. They stayed in the future, where all men were pansies.

Worst book for me, so far, by Lori Foster. Honestly, if there was even a quarter star rating, I'd give it.

Sorry, please don't hate me for this, it's just that after reading literally HUNDREDS of books, I'm entitled to my opinion. I was VERY disappointed with this book. Sorry.

But I'm not really totally giving up on Lori Foster, so I think I'd look for her contemporary ones more carefully.

Ugh, now I'm not even looking forward to reading Drew's story (another of the SBC series) for fear that I might get another shitty scifi romance.

Thoughts, anyone?

A MMA fighter gets into a car accident, a woman from the future asks him to help teach her people how to fight in exchange for fixing his leg. They lust after each other, the hero(?) made me want to strangle him with his sexist comments, heroine who was supposed to be strong just disappears, heroine's mother and father storyline is simplistic, can be seen from a mile away, and there is next to no world building.
Simplistic, sexist, and not good in my opinion.

It's interesting to see how people's thoughts on this book fall. Here on GR, the ratings and reviews go every which way. But, if you pop over to Amazon, out of 149 reviews this book got there, 106 were 1- or 2-star reviews. As for me, unfortunately, I fall into the 1-star category. Which I wasn't surprised about. I knew going in I most likely was not going to enjoy this book, but I did want to give it a try. I just don't like time travel romances, though. But more so than that, I was really annoyed by the nature of the story, it's place in a running series and how all that tied into the time travel element. Nothing about this book fit for me. It mostly just bored me to death.

My Man, Michael is the 4th book in the SBC Fighters series which is basically about ultimate fighters and the women they fall in love with. I wouldn't say it's necessary to read the series in order since the storylines of each book are mostly independent, but I do think it would be better to read them in order. Just for the sake of character nuances.

This book starts off with SBC fighter Michael "Mallet" Manchester, introduced in previous books, in the hospital after being in a horrific car crash. He was seriously injured and the damage to one of his legs means that he will never fight again. Depression is settling in when Mallet gets a visit from a strange woman named Kayli Raine - a woman who seems to be able to pop out of nowhere. Mallet thinks he's hallucinating, but eventually he realizes she's real, and that she's come from the future to ask him for his help. Kayli's colony needs a warrior to help train them to protect themselves. If he'll return with her and help her she will restore his body to perfect health. Disbelieving but curious, Mallet agrees...and soon finds himself in the year 2220.

The transition goes fairly smoothly for Mallet, but when he finds out they plan marry him off to cement his position in the colony, he tells the leader there's only one person he wants. And that's Kayli. But as Claviger of the colony, Kayli was never to marry. She'd been trained almost since birth to be a warrior and she doesn't know what to do about the feelings Mallet brings forth in her. But Mallet is patient. He's determined to have Kayli, and to help her people be safer.

I dreaded reading this book since I first heart about the time travel aspect. Maybe that's not quite fair, but it's the truth. I actually thought I was misreading information when I first saw it. I'd been poking around Foster's website, looking for info on upcoming-releases when I saw a little snippet about the next SBC book (this one). And all I could think was, travel travel? are you kidding me? It didn't make the least bit of sense.

Part of that is because I really don't like time travel romance books. I've read several and none have appealed to me. They're just not my thing. But the other, more dominant, factor is that the time travel element just does not fit with the series at all. Here you've got an established, contemporary romance series about ultimate fighters. Fans are enjoying it and waiting for more...then poof, characters are popping off to the future. It doesn't fit and it doesn't make any sense to me. The whole thing leaves me scratching my head. I know authors have every right to write what they want to write, but they have to take into consideration what works and what doesn't work. This doesn't seem to have worked at all. People reading contemporary romance want contemporary romance. Not some weird sci-fi trip and a complete departure from everything the series previously was. Basically, if you've ever heard the phrase "jumped the shark," it most definitely applies here.

Trying to put aside my overall annoyance with the nature of the book, I did read it and I did try to keep at least a partially open mind. But I just found the story boring. It took me about four days to read this book - which is a long time for me - and I had to force myself to go back and read more. I usually always read before I go to bed and 2 nights in a row while reading this book I watched TV instead.

Even right from the start the book didn't draw me. I was disappointed that the it started off with Mallet already injured and settling into depression. I thought the story would have been stronger if we'd gone through accident with him, seen how his friends reacted, how HE reacted when he found out his fighting career was over. The beginning just felt sort of weird jumping in where it did.

And the rest of the book I just found boring. It seems to just go 'round and 'round the same issues. Mallet wants Kayli, Kayli is confused over her sexuality, Mallet wants to protect Kayli, Kayli feels like Mallet is trying to take over, etc etc. There was no oomph to the story. Everything in it moved too slow and there wasn't enough action. Which made it rather boring.

I also didn't like how disconnected this book felt from the rest of the series. The previous books built on a set of connected characters with lots of interactions, the whole SBC thing and whatnot. But this book felt like it was floating along on its own. Other than a scene at the beginning and one at the end, all the past characters were personas non gratas. I missed that whole vibe, with all the guys interacting, the testosterone flying, and alpha tendencies pushing at each other. There wasn't anything like that in this book and it made it fall flat for me.

As you can see, I pretty much didn't like anything about this book. It was a chore to get through and if the book hadn't been a part of a series that I'd been previously reading and by an author I liked, I would have never read it. For anyone considering it...well, if you find yourself totally put off by the time travel element and not particularly interested in the story, then most likely you're not going to like the book. I certainly didn't. I'm not sure if I'll read the next book in the series, featuring Drew Black. The excerpt makes it seem like it will be a more traditional contemporary romance, but who knows. If it does end up having something with time travel like this one, then I think I'll skip it. One round of torture was enough.

My grin should be near to blinding about now...I just finished reading "My Man Michael" by Lori Foster and LOVED it! Her fourth book in the SBC Fighters series is packed with humor and heart-warming, heavy breathing romance from page one. Foster has managed to combine science fiction, fantasy, humor, and romance in a story that's almost guaranteed to make you say "Awwww" several times, yet still has a spicy, modern edge and blistering sexual tension.

Michael or Mallet as he prefers to be called is pretty darned depressed. Not only did he total his lovely little sports car but managed to mangle his leg at the same time. The prognosis for his career as an SBC fighter is bad...as in kaput, over, done, finito. He'll be lucky just to keep his functionless leg and even Mallet knows you can't fight with only one good leg. When he's visited by a cute blonde who keeps disappearing when others are around, Mallet is sure he's just on some really good pain-relievers. Then he notices that his body, well specifically one body part, seems to perk right up when she's around, so he's more than happy to listen to her delusional talks...like she's from the future, can cure his leg, and wants him to join her 'colony' and fight for their defense! He can even have his choice of virgins! Sound like heaven to him...so he decides to go along with her delusion in exchange for a kiss. Next thing Mallet knows he's really in the future, in Kayli's colony, and expected to spread his genes...holy hotcakes Batman!

So funny. Imagine a blue-collar, roughneck guy turned loose in a colony where women fight while the men tend to hearth and home. Foster plays this storyline with the skill of a star stand-up comic. Is it silly? Oh yes, and in the very best way. Is it hot? Oh yes, and in the very best way. Is it a keeper? Oh hell yes, and in the very best way.

I tried really hard to like this book, but it just wasn't happening for me. It's supposed to be part of the SBC series, but it's really not, IMHO. It's just not at all what I expected, the abrupt change in genre/plot, I mean there was never any warning that this series would ever be more then just contemporary stories about some extreme fighters. I ended up skimming just to get to the end, and hoping the hero woke up to find he'd been dreaming. I'm not sure if it was the time travel aspect, but the story itself just didn't work for me either. Very disappointing, because I loved the first three books in this series.

This book was surprisingly not good. I generally enjoy Lori Foster's books. Although she's not the greatest author ever, and she sometimes makes me roll my eyes with her unrealistically written characters, overall she's usually entertaining enough, and the sex scenes are on the steamy side, so she would normally get at least three stars. This book was a whole different caliber from what we usually get and it was cheesy as hell. I usually try to shy away from writing anything that could be considered a spoiler, but I'm going to break that habit right now, so if you prefer to be surprised, stop reading here. It's not a huge spoiler because you discover in chapter one that Kaylie is from the future and she's come back in time in order to take Michael back to her time because they desperately need his fighting skills. This is a huge departure for Ms. Foster, considering that this is book four in her SBC Fighter series, and the other three are firmly grounded in reality. I really don't have anything against time travel romances, generally speaking...as long as they're done well. This one was not. Besides the whole time travel thing, the plot was lame, the characters were stupid, and anyone could see what was coming a mile away. The only redeeming factor was that the sex scenes were decently steamy, but honestly, there weren't enough of them, and the buildup wasn't worth the payoff. If you've never read anything by Ms. Foster before, I would highly recommend Causing Havoc, which is the 1st in the SBC series and the best, but please don't start with this book or you'll never read another Lori Foster book after it. If you're a fan and you're determined to read this one...well, you've been warned: lower your expectations. ;-)

I LOVED THIS BOOK!! I was totally shocked by the turn this book took right off the bat. It was much different than her other SBC Fighter books, in my opinion. But not in a bad way!

Michael (Mallet) Manchester is injured and told he will not be able to fight again. Needless to say, he's pretty bummed! Then, out of the blue (literally!) Kayli appears and offers him a new life, in a new place, with working legs! Even though he thinks she's a little off her rocker, (or maybe he's a little off his rocker!), he decides he has nothing better to lose and decides to go for it!

Then begins the one of the sweeetest coursthips I've read in a while! Mallet was unbelievable charming and sweet. I was wondering how she was able to resist so well! Anyway, I dont want to give too much away because it is a must read!! So, read it! You won't be disappointed!

Oh no.

I would love to say that I followed through on this buddy read with the lovely WhiskeyintheJar/kryaryker but I reallllly just can't.

If you want reasons, here they be-mostly from her-since I went between lazy and exhausted on my comments. lol

Frankly, the book doesn't deserve more of my time, so it is what it is. I will say, however, I recall that this author had a vile hero (and maybe even heroine ?) in another book I read of hers, so never again. Unless I am really convinced otherwise. By some miracle.

The odd thing about this book is that it's the reason I started reading this series. I was specifically looking for scifi romance, ran across this title, but when I noticed it was part of a series, I went back to the beginning to read the books in order. All in all, I am so glad I did, because had I read this first, I probably would never have picked up another book by this author.

Since I came at this series from a different perspective than many other readers, I wasn't put off by the abrupt genre switch in the middle of a series, although I can see why others would be. I've never seen a contemporary romance series suddenly go scifi.

For me, the problem was complete and utter inability to suspend disbelief for the world the author created. It reads like a bunch of cheesy scifi cliches (many recognizable from Star Trek) thrown together in a haphazard attempt to create a peculiar setting and character. The things that did not make sense included, but are not limited to:

1. The world's nations have evaporated and formed into colonies, which seem small and relatively self-contained. There wasn't a lot of detail about the government, but it was counter-intuitive.

2. In the future, despite amazing advances in technology, the people have chosen, by mutual consent, to fight hand to hand instead of with guns or bombs. Since human warfare hasn't worked this way since the first caveman picked up a rock and threw it, I just have to go with: SERIOUSLY?

3. There seem to be a shortage of men. At one point, they claim that 3 girls are born for every 1 boy in this colony. Why? If the book attempted to explain, I missed it, and it really, really needed to try to explain that. It needed even more to explain why, in the colony they're fighting, they have a disproportionate numer of male babies. (Um....so why are you fighting?)

4. Even if we take on faith that for whatever random reason, babies are being born disproportionately female, I gotta question why men aren't hooking up with more than one woman. It just seems like the thing nature would do. Instead, we've got a bunch of hoity-toity morals with monogomous unions and a whole lot of frustrated virgins. That makes sense. I don't suppose it occured to anyone that men can father babies on more than one woman at a time? A shortage of women is always a more serious problem.

I'm sure there are more, but really, isn't that enough?

And, as if all that weren't bad enough, I didn't like Michael at all. He was a condescending jerk who kept pushing the heroine even though she kept saying no. No. No. No.

I wish I had something positive to say about this book, since I've been enjoying the other books in the series, but all I can say is that I don't recommend this one. I would even go so far as to say skip it, if you're reading the series.

Oh Foster, what have you done? Okay, do not let this book scare you away from the series by any means, but in all honesty if you like the series, you may want to skip this book. I NEVER say that about a series because I am all about reading them in order, but here is the thing: it's also a sci-fi romance novel. I didn't mark this as a spoiler because I think it doesn't spoil the book, and it is important to know for those who do not like sci-fi. I do not. I don't do time-travel, robots, etc. etc. and I couldn't even read through this book. I did skim through for the sex scenes, but they aren't as hot when you dislike the books and can't get into the characters.

I think it's a shame that she took such a hottie hero that had been in the previous books and put him in a story line that is NOTHING like the rest of the series. It is nothing like the other books of the series and really doesn't incorporate the other characters of the series except for the very beginning. I hope #5 goes back to the style of the series that has worked so far. The reason this seemed so bizarre is this is not what she writes and not what I've come to expect from this specific series. If she really wants to get into the sci-fi romance, she should really start a new series. Not try her hand at this in an existing series where it does not work.

The fourth book in Lori Foster's SBC Fighters series. I really enjoyed this one. I know there is a lot of concern that Ms. Foster took this one in a different direction, choosing to use the time-travel theme to the future. I feel she did a wonderful job. I liked the misleading hint of the Cinderella theme but I don't want to give away any spoilers.

My Man Michael is the 4th in the SBC Fighters series but can be read as a stand alone. I recommend reading the previous books for the entertainment and a little character background but this book isn't like the others in that it has a time travel theme and futuristic qualities. Michael "Mallet" Manchester was on his way to winning a title when a car accident put him in the hospital and potentially ending is career. Dealing with the anger, depression and pain, he is surprised by the woman who seems to appear out of nowhere and says she can heal him if he agrees to go with her and help her save her colony. First he thinks it is the pain meds that created her and after his friends see her, he thinks she is a little crazy but agrees if she gives him a kiss. When the kiss ends, he is stunned to find his body whole and in the twenty third century. Kayli Raine is in charge of protecting her colony and knows she can never form a union with a man, but Michael stirs up many feelings that she is having difficulty dealing with when she is supposed to be focused on protection. Being a macho, alpha male, Michael is not used to women fighting and men staying at home so he shakes things up by also training the males in the colony who wish to protect it from outside invaders. The story that follows is a fun, engaging, somewhat emotional story with secrets revealed and some combat but what really brings in the enjoyment is the faceless computer Hauk who brings the laughs.

I am a BIG Lori Foster fan and I really wanted to love this book. Unfortunately I didn't really like it. All the right ingredients were there - guy & gal meet; have great chemistry; fall in love; have passionate love scenes; overcome adversity that stands in their way and fiddle-di-dee...all's well that ends well and they live happily ever after.

I didn't enjoy the sci-fi element, it just didn't work for me. Perhaps if this was a separate story or series it may have worked better. I normally love a clever twist, but this one left me a bit baffled. I don't think the future world was developed or explained enough and it was a strange distraction.

My biggest issue is that I really missed the whole SBC world and I missed all the other characters. I love the interaction between characters from other books and I felt a bit bereft without them!

I liked the secondary story of Kayli's Mom and I really loved the computer - he was a great character and had the same sort of droll lines as Data, the Robot (or cyborg, can't remember) in StarTrek:Next Generation. I also loved the premise of two colonies at war who are the mirror image of each other and if they could just sort themselves out could complete each other.

Other people have either loved or loathed this and it just goes to show that you can't please everyone all of the time.

I will keep hold of this and read it again someday - perhaps a second reading will give me a different perception. I had recently re-read Simon Says, which I totally loved and I was gagging for more great big gorgeous fighters who fall head over heals in love and lust.

I have my fingers crossed for the next book - don't let me down Drew...!

This one threw me for a really big loop!! This is part of her SBC fighters series, so imagine my surprise when I start reading and all of a sudden it became a futuristic sci-fi book.

It was strange and unexpected, especially since this is the fourth book in a series that is contemporary romance.

I still liked the book, and thought it was good but I was a little too confused throughout the beginning to rate it higher than a 3. I found myself wondering, "What the hell is going on?" and checking the front of the book to make sure I was reading what I thought I was reading.

I'm still going to finish the series and continue reading her other series'. I like Foster a lot, and I don't think I've ever disliked a book she has written. It just felt as though this one came out of left field. If it had been the beginning book to a series I probably would have rated it higher, but my confusion and it's lack of continuity from the previous books just really had me baffled.

ZERO STARS!
An appalling bit of trash. I like the SBC Fighter series. What was this? First, not an SBC book. Second, BAD, BAD, BAD, science fiction. It's plain that Ms. Foster has never read any good sci fi if she's read any sci fi at all. If there was a stupid sci fi cliche that she didn't use, I sure couldn't tell. Thank goodness I rented and didn't buy the damn thing. I'm not going to go into detail. If you really want to know my opinion, check out the most helpful negative review on Amazon about this book. While not my review, it says everything I would want to say here.

A fun series goes a little weird in this one. Apparently not having enough stuff to write about in our time, Foster takes us on a trip to the future for a morality play about men and women and their roles in life. You could consider it a critique on our times, when we're all too afraid of men to let them be what they're made to be. Not a bad story, but not at all what I was expecting.

Michael Manchester is about to fight for a MMA title when he is in an auto accident that destroys his leg. He is faced with the potential loss of the leg and the end of his career when a woman appears offering him the repair of his leg to its prior shape in exchange for going with her to train her forces to defend their colony. He accepts her offer and begins a whole new life in a place he never expected to go. This plot was so different from the first 3 volumes of this series and may not be for everyone. I like mixing genres and thought this was fun. It will be interesting to see where the series goes from here.

Y'all.

There I was reading the SBC Fighters series and finding it a bit predictable yet charming in it's own way. And then the author decides to finish the series by throwing in a time travel trope change.
I'd def recommend it for the laugh if you're in the mood for indulging in a little bit of mean. Which is kind of a hobby, so...whatevs

[This review, and many others, are available on my blog.]

This was my first Lori Foster book in a while (aside from some short stories), and I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

This one takes a very, very different turn from the others in the series, which is why a lot of people don’t seem to like it as much. I didn’t have a problem with that, which is probably because I’d only read the first book in the series, and I read it a couple years ago, so it was very fuzzy in my brain. I can understand why some people would be upset, if they really liked the other books because of the fighter element and because they liked seeing the other fighters from the other books, but I didn’t mind.

The book starts with Michael, or “Mallet”, being in the hospital. He’s gotten very hurt, and has very likely lost the use of his legs. He’s grumpy and upset about this, generally not very good company. And then a girl shows up, who gets his attention but keeps disappearing. The girl, Kayli, wants his help with something. In the future.

(One thing that I [kind of] liked about the synopsis, is that it keeps this part of the book hidden. But I want to talk about that part, and apparently some forewarning wouldn’t be a bad idea, so I’m going to spoil that for you.)

This is the part of the book that I think most people didn’t like. Kayli is from the future, and she takes Michael back to the future with her. I did, at first, have a problem with the added futuristic/time-traveling element to a series that was otherwise contemporary, but it grew on me. And I really enjoyed this book, so I’m happy to overlook that.

I really enjoyed the world that Foster built in this book. This future has its problems, but is mostly just really cool. I liked it.

I also really liked Kayli and Michael. Michael seems to have changed a lot from the previous books (at least, from when we first saw him in Simon Says —I haven’t read the third book yet), and I really liked him. He didn’t seem to jump on the love-train too quickly, but once he decided that he wanted Kayli, there was no other choice for him. He wanted her, and so he was determined to have her. And he wasn’t too pushy, either. I really liked that part. I liked Kayli, too. She was sweet, and tough, and very shy, which was just really nice. Her naïve shyness was done in a very sweet, honest way, and I liked that.

And the sexy part of the romance was very nice, as well. Their whole chemistry, the way they interacted, was just really well done. I really liked it. Foster really knows how to make a good romance, which is something I'd forgotten.

There was a subplot romance in this book, which at first I didn’t like and really didn’t want to happen, but ended up turning out really well. I was a little surprised at how easily I opened up to it, but I did. I liked it. And I thought it worked rather well for the ending.

One part that I did not like about this book was the sexist part. Foster seems to be putting in little bits in her books about how women are just women and thus not as strong or capable as men, while at the same time having the women fight to prove how strong they are, and that was a very big element in this book. And it was really pissing me off a couple of times. It seemed like, at the end of this book, that the guys were coming around, but not that they really believed it, and that they still thought that women shouldn’t be fighting against men because they weren’t as strong or capable. And I just wasn’t as content with that part of the ending as I would have liked to be.

Also, with the fact that, throughout the entire book, Kayli was fighting for her spot as head of the defense team, and yet at the end of the book, she decided that she would give it up for Michael. I don’t like that she was going to do that, and I don’t think she should have been even thinking that way, at all.

That part of the book just really got on my nerves. As I said, it was a little bit better at the end, and the rest of the book is enough to make me say that I did really enjoy it, but that part still bothers me.

To sum up, I really enjoyed this book. A lot. And I’m really looking forward to reading the third and fifth books in this series, as well as Foster’s other books.

Well, I always look forward to a Lori Foster book, but I was hesitant to read this last one due to the negative review on Amazon.com. It seems that our author has decided to throw a curve ball into the mix of her most recent book: a time travel aspect. I definitely agree with the general Foster audience that it was a bit of a disappointment for the series to take such a random leap. However, having read all the reviews of the strange new direction for this installment of the SBC fighter books, I was well prepared for finally reading My Man Michael. So, telling myself that this was not the normal SBC book, to expect something different, I was able to read it without a completely open mind (expecting a completely different sort of book). And as a result, I actually really liked the book. It wasn't the same as the others of the series. But on its own, with a few references to the other characters and such, it was an enjoyable read. And it was a funny and well written book. So we should all get over all the reasons why it is different, and enjoy the freshness of it.
Though I hope that the next time Ms. Foster decides to experiment, that she gives her readers proper forewarning (as it seems that way too many fans and readers were distraught by the surprise - as I most likely would have been had I not read all those distressed reviews).

I have a couple of Lori Foster's books but this series is fairly new and I love it. I don't know much about sports especially Supreme Battle Challenge (SBC) Fighters, which I didn't a clue about what that sport is about and I still don't know much about them. When I read the first book in this series I at least started to get what SBC Fighters do and in this fourth and upcoming book in the series things take are very 180 turn from what the first 3 books were like. This is an Advance Readers Copy of Lori Foster's upcoming February 2009 release which I have had the honor of reading and reviewing for her. We met Michael "Mallet" Manchester in the second novel Simon Says and he was also a bit in the third novel Hard to Handle , so we know a bit about Michael but in this novel we get to know him a whole lot better.

In this novel there is a very big twist that will surprise you and take you to a whole different place than the first three novels. It was such a pleasure reading this novel because it was so different and took me to a whole new place that really gave me a thrill with each passing chapter in the novel.

I love that this book has it all! Even my husband read it! Mixed martial arts fighter Michael “Mallet” Manchester was on his way to the top when an accident destroyed his leg and his chance at the championship.

While he is recovering in the hospital a beautiful woman shows up and promises she can heal his leg, but he then has to do her a favor.
Michael thinks she’s nuts (and beautiful) and agrees just to get a kiss. Imagine his surprise when she heals his leg and whisks him away to the future to train a community of women warriors!

This is fun, amusing, exciting and romantic. It’s perfectly proportioned with things that make you unable to put the book down. Lol
The author is Lori Foster and you can even read an excerpt from the first chapter of the book on her site http://www.lorifoster.com. She has a book trailer there too!

I had a really hard time getting through this book. First, because I was distracted by the sudden shift in genre within the same series. How can we go from set of really hot fighters finding, loving and protecting women to a set-in-the-future, going-into-the-cheesiest-war-EVER, and a horrible "secret" that's revealed 1/4 of the way in? There was no surprise in the storyline except that the characters are horrible, snotty people one day and *poof* mushy the next day. Yeesh!

I was really excited to read about this character after "meeting" him in earlier books. To have him just jump ship all of a sudden was ridiculous and jarring.

However, I will say, I still loved his character and Kaylie. If this had been a different series I might have...no, I still wouldn't have liked it but at least it wouldn't have put me off the original series (much).

Please note this review might contain some SPOILERS.

If you can look past the fact that this book turned out to be a time travel / Sci Fi novel it was a wonderful book. I can understand why most of the fans that read the book took great exception to this particularlly since there was nothing on the cover warning of the fact it is a SciFi but they should blame the publishers for that one. Ms Foster has once again written a beautiful love story with great characters and a smooth flowing story. It had some beautifuly touching moments and some funny moments with the developing relationship between the H/H forming the main focus of the story. I highly recomend this book, for me personally this was another hit from Ms Foster.

Okay, i'm still reading this book but c'mon...It's weird that she shifts gears this much within her series. I mean, I absolutely love the paranormal..look at my collection. I feel like it's kind of misplaced. She added that extra bit about Jamie in her last series, but it was gradual and integrated into it. I'm sure I'll revise this when i finish but it's a tad bit off-putting.

So, I'm done reading it and it was really good...I still stand by my original thought. These are about ultimate fighters..throwing in a futuristic time/place into a series that has , by book 4, established a non-paranormal setting is still weird.

Hmmmm... I really hope Foster isn't running out of ideas. I was very dissapointed in this book, having loved the first three books of this series. It took me about 280 pages to get through the book before it actually got my attention. (I'm an avid reader and was pretty sad at how many times I kept putting this book down.) my theory is if I want science fiction read then I would go to that section of the book store and get a book of that nature. I don't mind a good twist to a story but this threw me way off. I really hope the next book will pick up from Harley's story and we can get back to contemporary romance.

Michael is seriously injured and thinks he's hallucinating when a beautiful woman appears (and disappears) in his hospital room promising to cure him if he goes with her to her colony. He agrees because even if he's dreaming he'll have a hell of a time. The romance between Kayli and Michael is super romantic and heart felt.

This is the first book in the SBC Fighters series that I've read (and the first by Lori Foster) and it's made me want to read the first three. I really like her writing even though the swearing is off the charts.

I did NOT like this book. Possibly because I don't get into that paranormal type genre, I put this down after the first half of the book, I couldn't stand it. If it wasn't intended to be paranormal or wishy ( I can't find the correct way to describe it ) then it wasn't conveyed in the first 50% of the book. I was annoyed that I paid $8 for this book and it sucked.

Two stars, 1 because it was a book and 1 because I didn't find many CE errors, if any at all.
