This is a level 2 Science learning about dinosaurs book. But the dinosaurs in this book aren't consitered dinosaurs but rather than prehistoric mamals and birds. Like prehistoric aligators and birds etc. Had a glossary, real names of these creatures, etc.

Good illustrations. It presents the reptiles and mammals by family. I wish there were a time line, because times of flourishing is mixed. It would have been good to know the order of species in evolution.

Pteranodons are, in fact, not dinosaurs as Charlotte Lewis Brown explains, although they are monsters of the air. Each animal has two full pages of description and realistic pictures. This is not quite a chapter book - it has a table of contents with the page numbers. The back cover states that it is, “a high-interest story for developing readers” and this is exactly what it is. Boys will clamber to read, “Beyond the Dinosaurs.”

Brown introduces children to the creatures who shared the air and the sea with the dinosaurs. Action filled illustrations and short descriptions show readers a glimpse of life during the Jurassic period.

Dynamic illustrations that children would be drawn to – particularly young boys. Although the feeding scenes may be slightly gruesome for more sensitive children.

Without the first page of text, I would have rated this book higher. The book clearly declares an old earth, and thus, evolutionary theory. Otherwise the book remains neutral and presents interesting information to young, new readers.

It would be good for students in second grade because they are learning how to read well. It explains the characteristics of animals and where they live. It is a non-fiction book.

Pronunciation guide on each page helpful for kids. Nice to see a dinosaur book focusing on the birds and sea. Included a few that I hadn't read about in other children's books about dinosaurs. My 4yr old loved this one
