When I started my study on prayer - I figured I would have to learn latin, chanting and possibly learn how to flog myself. I was very relieved to find out how simple it is to just talk to God. Joyce does an amazing job outlining the simplicity of prayer and then discussing the things behind the scenes e.g. why we don't get a response from God, what we are doing that prevents the full power of our prayers from making things happen.

This book is amazing if you are an overthinker and perfectionist like I am. It has brought an amazingly fresh new perspective on the power of prayer and truly how simple it can be. I am totally guily of overcomplicating this part of my walk in faith and have gained so much new perspective from this book. I am actually re-reading to jot down some notes for reference and am finding just as much the second time through. Definitely recommend this for anyone needing a little encouragement in the area of prayer.

An excellent, easy-to-read book about prayer. It's a good book to read if you need to pick it up at intervals, like I did, or to read right through. I underlined as I went along because there are very good points to note. Certainly this is a book that you'll want to read through multiple times so that you can strengthen your prayer life and continue to learn. I highly recommend this book for new and not-so-new Christians. It's a good book for you wherever you are in your walk with Christ.

I took a long time to finish this book. But, books like this I take sections at a time and study and take it all in.
I feel very drawn to prayer and I also love this author who has been an influence in my spiritual life as well.
Great tips for prayer and what prayer is all about with plenty of biblical backup which this author is all about.
It all comes down to "Prayer is Simple" and not as involved and difficult as we think.
I will definitely be reading this one again in the future.

Meyers has a strong approach to prayer, very clear and stable statements as to what prayer is and the Biblical support to hold up her assertions. She says that prayer is simple and we complicate it, that it is a relationship, not a crystal ball or a vending machine. She says that at it’s center is a love filled life.
She has several chapters on detailed descriptions of different types of prayer and their uses. Then she has a chapter on key elements that make prayer affective and then she writes a whole other chapter on what makes prayer ineffective, I didn’t see the purpose of this as it seemed to say what the chapter on affective elements said but in reverse.
She kind of seemed to loose steam toward the end of the book.
Some premises that Meyers that I’m not sure I agree with are 1) God only acts here on earth if we ask Him to and 2) the key to an effective prayer life is coming to God knowing that he sees you as a friend.

“I say that God desires our prayer lives to be natural and enjoyable. He wants our prayers to be honest and heartfelt, and He wants our communication with Him unencumbered by rules, regulations, legalism, and obligation. He intends for prayer to be an integral part of our everyday lives—the easiest thing we do each day.”
vii

“I believe that the greatest mystery of prayer is that it joins the hearts of people on earth with the heart of God in heaven.”
viii

“The fact that we want to pray and that we believe that our prayer lives can be better—is evidence that we know the spiritual realm exists and that we believe what happens there affects what happens on earth. It proves that we know deep in our hearts that there is more to life than meets the eye and we value the things that are invisible more than the things we can see, just as Paul writes in (2 Corinthians 4:18):”
viii

“He has set in motion a spiritual law, which He Himself abides by, that says He will not do anything on earth unless someone prays and asks.”
x

“Everything about our spiritual lives depends on our personal faith in God and our personal relationship with Him. We can enjoy that relationship because Jesus’ death on the cross gives us free, unhindered access to our heavenly Father and our faith makes it possible for us to have an intimate, dynamic relationship with Him.”
5
Eph 3:12

“You must know that one of the hindrances to a vibrant, maturing friendship with God is allowing ourselves to focus on the benefits of friendship with God instead of focusing on Him as our friend.”

friendship gives us boldness
Luke 11:5-8
Hebrews 4:16

“love knocks at [God’s] door until He opens.” Charles Spurgeon the Power in Prayer

“Our personal faith in God and our personal relationship with Him directly affect the quality and the effectiveness of our prayers. In fact, being God’s friend is the most important key to a vibrant, dynamic prayer life. He wants us to draw near to Him, to trust Him, to love Him, to share our hearts with Him, and to listen as He shares His heart with us.”
21

In addition to praying at all times, Ephesians 6:18 also instructs us to “pray in the Spirit.” Simply put, “praying in the Spirit” means letting the Holy Spirit lead us as we pray instead of just praying anything we want.

“[But] Every kind of power we encounter on earth means nothing in heaven. Atomic power could wipe out an entire city of people, but it cannot give them eternal life. This power once commanded the attention of every nation on earth, but it never healed a broken heart. Fuel power takes us where we want to go in the world, but it does not help us make any spiritual progress in our lives or move forward in God. The power we know of in the physical world is natural, but prayer power is spiritual.”

Elisha, Hezekiah (2 Kings 20:1) Zacharias, Peter

I didn't realize the audio book was abridged.

While it repeats some items I've read in John Maxwell's book (currently re-reading), it offers different insight into the same issues and topics. That is what makes this book one to listen to or read (I intend to purchase a copy of the book for reference).

One thing I discovered while listening to this is the devil doesn't like someone learning more about prayers. I found myself getting distracted and missing what was being said. It wasn't because of the narrator. Because when I sat and actively listened I got quite a bit from the test. So if you are a believer and are really interested in improving your prayer life, a good place to start and be prepared for anything and everything to come against you from learning.

I hate giving this a 3 but I don't think I'm quite up to "really liked it". However, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone who would like to develop their prayers.
My eyes landed on this title in the library after talking with God about prayer - some will see the magic of this. Anyway... Some of the points in this book were common sense for me but there are things in here that served as reminders and thinking points. If anyone needs to strengthen their prayers or wants to build on prayer, this book is a great read. And sometimes we just forget the simple things and this book could serve as a means to get back to basics.

This book was profound for me. As someone who's still fairly new at living this Christian life I've always had tons of questions regarding prayer. Joyce Meyer couldn't have laid it out any better. I had no idea that simple sayings and sentences such as "Thank you Jesus" or "Lord help me" were considered prayers as long as they are sincere. I will definitely be taking the principles learned and applying them immediately as well as using this book as a reference whenever I get discouraged about my prayer life.

If your that type of Christian that goes by the rules when you pray, you'll be surprised when you read this book. Meyer literally made me think about Christianity and how we always view it as "stiff", especially when you want to present yourself to God. The Power of Simple Prayer simply inspired myself to be as I am when I come to God and communicate, my way. You should really read this book if you feel like you're spiritually dried and you want to liven up the fire again. It will really help you evaluate yourself and your relationship with God.

This a book that changed the way I prayed .
Ever since I read this book I rearly depended on printed payers instead I say my own prayers.
Now I am able to pray anywhere and Every where .
It will change the way you pray ,it makes prayer more simple and interesting.
It also takes away the way we see God and some one who is waiting to punish.
After reading you will start considering God as you best friend.
It can be read by any non Christian but
Highly recommended for Christians who wants to chAnge your boaring prayer life to a very interesting one .

The Power of Simple Prayer by Joyce Meyers; having just read 40 pages of it, yet I am enthralled with this book. Giving me a power of simplicity and encouragement, I quite enjoy what I have read. An easy read, yet a powerful and useful technique.

I enjoy the way it is laid out and her style of writing, so far. I would recommend this book because of the mindset when praying, I have adopted, from reading this book. She is very clear and precise.

Well done.

This book was in fact simple and powerful!! It forever changed how I think about prayer..and how I pray. The enemy of our soul is endlessly trying to complicate God...and make you think you are praying "wrong" or God is not hearing you... This book is stuffed full of the Word of God, and really equips you with the truth about prayer!

In this book, Joyce Meyer gives insights on the power of prayer, and how we can use it to communicate with God.
This is a good book and I would recommend it to anyone who wanted to learn more about prayer. But, to be honest, it was hard to stick with to the end. I put the book down for a week, and then returned to it.

Pray solo

If you need to learn to pray privately, and to yourself, this is the book for you, hands down. If you need to learn to pray publicly, and out loud, you need to grab a different book.
