Romeo and Juliet never had to worry about being skinned alive.
Sydney Skeller’s father is spitting bullets over her reluctance to join the family business as a shifter hunter. The last thing Daddy needs to know is why—she yearns for a lover who’s man enough for a relationship but animal enough to give her the wild ride of her dreams. After a treadmill mishap lands her in a tangled heap with Jason Cannon, she wonders if she’s finally found her beast, er, man. One session in bed and one bite later, she’s sure. Now if only she can keep her father from mounting Jason’s head on a wall…
Jason is all man on the surface, but wolf shifter down to the bone. He’s more than ready to stop “playing the pack” and find his one true mate, and Sydney of the luscious curves is the woman of his dreams. Finding out that she comes from a family sworn to eradicate his kind isn’t a deal-breaker. But her outrageous plan for him to masquerade as the wolf in hunter’s clothing, right under her father’s very nose, could be asking more than he ever expected to give.
This book was previously published in ebook form only under the title Kissin’ in the Moonlight, and has been revised from its original release.
Beverly Rae’s witty, sexy, action-packed romances leave readers experiencing a wide range of emotions. As a multi-published author, Beverly is always working on her next book, taking the “usual” and twisting it into the “unusual.”
Sidney Skeller has been having dreams of a shifter hottie for a while now and goes with her friend to see a psychic known for finding the "ONE", she doesn't have long to wait for him because the next day she has a misahap at her local gym and runs into her dream guy and later on mates with him. The problem with that is she comes from a family of Werewolf Hunters. Her father has his heart set on her continuing the family name and becoming a Hunter like himself. So now she has to hide her new shifter hunk from her family so they dont kill him!! This story was not only hot but full of humor and I loved every minute of it;)
Syd was brought up as a hunter, the sort of family that dedicated their lives to the eradication of the werewolves. Syd has dreamed of a werewolf lover for most of her life. Eventually she meets Jayson, the star of her dreams. Soon, Jayson and Syd are trying to keep her dad and his friends- the hunters- from killing them both. It's not terrible, but I found it deeply flawed. The characters are flat. They don't change and develop, even when bombshells are dropped on them. Syd takes life-altering changes more or less in stride, and fails utterly to develop into a likable character. She continues to be self-critical to an almost debilitating degree. The rest of the characters come off as so stereotyped as to completely lose all credibility. Jayson is the perfect alpha male. Benjy is the flamingly gay sidekick always flirting with the alpha, and Max, Syd's ex-boyfriend (and closet gay) both give the book a thin "we're ok with gay" veneer that may have worked had there been any depth, but came off as insulting. The pace of the book was somewhat skewed. Things took forever to get started, with no sort of suspense to help move things along. The ending scene took forever, and failed to resolve anything. I couldn't quite believe it when there was a gaping hole in the plot and suddenly I was reading an epilogue.
I enjoyed the story for most part. but too much sex detail. Syd and her friend go to a physic she has had dreams of same guy and he turns into a warewolf. she wants to meet him. Her father is a werewolf hunter and wants her to be in the family business. but she is attracted to her dream guy and doesnt want to kill anything. Jason is comming into his gym to check on the new manager with his accountant gay werewolf Benjy. Jason is admiring a women from the back on a exersice machine which is syd. Syd turns looks at him and is startled the machine catches her shirt she falls on Jason. and rips her shirt off before it chokes her. embarress hers and gives her his shirt as he is ordered too. As she runs to the dressing room he remarks that he has just met his mate. Later Syd takes pain pills for her bruised back and side than takes a drink of wine. her father comes in and gets her to agree to go on one hunt even though she says she wont shoot. than jason comes after he leaves with flowers and wine. they end in bed and he says something about them being mates she says she recongizes him too so he bit her not realizing she had combination of pills and wine. he ends up leaving to give her space to cool down. two days later syd is on hunt with her father and runs across Jason and female who are changing somone hits the girl. she convinces her father and friend to let her finsh off the were by herself so they go after wounded girl. Syd feels like shooting him over jealousy but convinces everyone that she fately wounded him but he escaped down drain. Syd is in process of changing into a werewolf and her mate is a werewolf and her dad is a hunter who kills them. lot of drama, humor action while they work through thier problems
This book started off really slow for me. Even once I was able to start getting into it, I immediately developed a love/hate relationship with the book. I think the initial idea had enormous possibility but the author never really pulled it all together. She forced too much humor, alot of which was'nt even funny.
One would expect their favorite character(s) to be the female or male lead, if not both. In this case, I did'nt care for either. Granted, Jason had his moments but Syd was exhausting and annoying. I found Syd's parents to be the most interesting of all the characters, and the most tolerable. I still don't know if I like Benji (Jason's gay sidekick). He too had his moments but the author literally dug up each and every gay stereotype and had him smothering in it. She just laid it on too thick, making him more of a cartoon. He had so much promise.
The sex scenes were ok. Though, the whole, taking on a Nazi accent....I just found that revolting. I'm no prude but that's not hot.
Bored, that is what Jason Cannon is, bored. Jason just wants to find the one person who is meant to be his met and do away with the women he has been dating lately. When an incident at one of his gyms put him in direct path with his mate, he is more than pleased, especially when he gets to rescue his damsel in distress, but she doesn't seem to be as pleased with her performance as he is.
Sydney Skeller is born to a long line of hunters who hunt shifters, although her father continues to try and get her to join the hunt, she refuses. Sydney knows who Jason is the second she sees him, but overwhelming embarrassment and coming to grips with the fact that she is mated to a shifter and her father hunts them for a living, what's a girl to do.
This was really fun, had a few issues with the way it was paced it seemed to jump quite a bit but overall it was entertaining enough to overlook those issues. Jason is fun, both characters are quirky and had a great beginning with the two of them meeting.
Benjy was just so over the top flamboyantly stereotypical that it was disgusting and honestly took all of the fun out of what could have been a hilarious and meaningful story.
The cover is gorgeous, and the premise was intriguing, but the execution was simply awful, which is a shame, because the book had so much promise.
Schoolteacher Sydney Skeller's always dreamt of werewolves and since puberty it's been a specifically sexy werewolf and for him alone she knows she can't join the family shifter hunting business. But now it's time to mate, everything in her feels it and if he won't come to her Sydney will find him with the help of a psychic that helped her frienemy find a shifter to marry! Sydney can't wait.
Business is just starting to work out for gym chain owner, Jason Cannon. He's tired of overnight bar bimbo pick-ups and he's ready for a mate but who has the time? When Sydney looks over the gym and spots the shifter from her dream come toward her, she loses her footing and falls hard. Onto Jason, the floor and the machine. In that moment, Jason's certain she's his mate.
At home, Sydney mixes alcohol with pain pills and is tipsy when her father extracts a promise that she'll hunt shifters once with him. As soon as her dad is gone, Jason arrives with an apology, gifts and ready to claim his mate. Sydney jumps Jason immediately, he can't control the shift as he bites her and, eliminates all doubt, he's the wolf of her dreams.
Of course Sydney's parents have to be told she's mated a shifter and Jason's father, the clan alpha, has to be told he's mated and his mate's father is the leader of the shifter hunters. Not to mention the other secrets spilled when politically correct runs screaming from the read and reality and consequences settle in. But what couple doesn't have issues.
This sassy, light, funny and sexy foundation tale was quick and easy to read. For this reader's taste the fresh storyline was brilliantly ripe with almost slapstick humor but suffered from flat leads in need of definition and individuality, they're so similar they could be the same character with two names. This ride also has personable and vivid supporting characters throwing confetti in your face along the way. Rating:3.5stars
Sydney Skeller is in a predicament. Her father wants her to join the family business. Fine by her, but she doesn't want to be a shifter hunter. The reason? She years for a a man who's more beast than man, and a shifter fits that bill. A specific shifter, actually...
Jason Cannon may look like a man but he inside he is so much more. Wolf shifter, he is tired now of the life of a skirt-chaser and wants to settle down, find his mate. Sydney will fit the bill perfectly, except for one tiny problem - her family hunts his kind!
Another twist strings in to complicate matters - Sydney wants Jason to meet her hunter father. And Jason will have to pose as a hunter too. Will this be one complication too many in their already chaotic relationship? What will happen when Sydney's father finds out that the man his daughter has chosen is the very one she should be trying to kill?
I enjoyed this book a lot. Ms. Rae writes with a compelling and often-funny voice, drawing the reader easily into the lives of Sydney and Jason. Their rocky relationship, complete with totally hunter-dysfunctional family on Sydney's side spices things up, and the posse of hunters that skulk around Sydney's father is lots of fun to watch. Ms. Rae does a remarkable job of combining her quirky cast with a too-hot-to-handle love story between Sydney and Jason.
Overall, an enjoyable read. Time flies when you sit down with HOWLING FOR MY BABY.
PJV Quickie: I’m sure you heard the term, “you get what you pay for,” well I got this one for Free on Amazon.com. Enough said.
REVIEW: This was complete insanity. It made no sense and then compounded with an “Alpha” that was basically prancing around like some schizophrenic on meth I had to DNF this one. The book went from an odd acceptance of weres with no explanation and then an insta-love mating that the heroine, even though pining over her mysterious mate she had been dreaming of, treated him like an abso-turd on consummation. It was an odd world creation and the straw broke the camel’s back when the hero started ditching his alpha tendencies and acted like a school girl that just landed her first boyfriend.
Lets begin by saying I am a fan of this supernatural genre but this book was very disappointing. It suffers from an extreme identity crisis. Is it a supernatural story, a thriller, a comedy, a romance, a family melodrama, a cheesy graphic erotic novel or all six? At times it seemed like it had 4 writers. A better writer may have combined all that but that was not the case, the plot was messy and the end has so many silly twists and turns it gave the reader whiplash. The characters were stereotypes and barely two dimensional. The Benji character was particularly annoying with all his gay stereotypical comments. Even the most flaming gay man talks normally sometimes. It is an interesting idea but without better execution ( and writing ) I am positive this series will be a big dud. I don't plan to read anymore.
Too much drama, not enough romance. The blurb sounded very promising, and the beginning was but as the book progressed so many things began to stick out. Syd just wasn't my type of heroine. The only time she ever exhibited a backbone was when she was standing up for the father that she couldn't even call "Dad" and that would turn around and kill her rather than accept her. I just couldn't stand the Skeller and some of his actions weren't consistent with his character AT ALL. I just couldn't understand Syd's actions and thoughts toward him despite their relation. Overall, this book just didn't live up to the potential the plot had. Probably will not read more from this author.
I really liked the 'idea' of this book when I read the synopsis. Unfortunately, I found the idea better than the reality. The characters are flat and lack depth, description and realism. I couldn't even find a kinship with the main characters because they continually acted as if everything was beyond their control. They allowed other characters to 'herd' them through the events of the story. The story presents almost as if it's a summary or a list of events. It quickly moves from one scene to another without exploring the depth or emotion behind the characters' actions. To be honest, I couldn't even finish this book because I was so frustrated. I kept wanting more from the characters and story, but it just never happened.
Cute story that has potential but still needs lots of editing. Much of the writing was cute but I often felt that noone had read it to see how it sounded or if it made sense. I really feel that a strong editor could have made this book excellent instead of just OK. I also felt like the story glossed over some parts while going into way too much deatil in others. Enjoyed the love story but wished the author had more to say about the two main characters and less about the surronding add-ins. With a good editor a rewrite could be Cute and Funny, and not repetitive and slow in parts like it is now.
I recently purchased a Kindle and my niece showed me how to download free and 99 cent books. So, I have been reading these books first. However, I cannot take it any more. Most of these books are just plain terrible.
When I read the book description for "Howling for My Baby," I figured it would not be a literary masterpiece; but hopefully it would be light and fun! The dialogue is chocked full of every cliche imaginable and the story line is so unbelievable that I almost threw my Kindle against the wall. With that being said, I've decided to stick with recommendations from my goodreads friends and authors I know. I cannot deal with any more bad books even if they are free!
The daughter of a shifter hunter dreams of the man she knows is her destiny. He also happens to be a shifter himself.
There's a lot of potential there. Unfortunately, it was all unrealized. It wasn't sexy or funny. Neither of the lead characters were developed at all, although again there was potential. There weren't really any relationship dynamics. The conflict, which should have arisen naturally given the set up of the story, felt contrived. The dialog, the secondary characters, everything. There was so much possibility and none of it panned out.
Howling for my baby, wasn't at all believable but it was still fun to read it. Sydney is a strong but emotional heroine and Jason is an Alpha who's not quite bossy for an alpha. I honestly think Jason could have been a more take charge and forceful person in this book but he seems more easy going then most Alphas that I've read about. The book was funny and had me laughing out loud or befuddled a few times. It's a fast and light hearted read.
I totally feel like I got ripped off reading this book. I expected a sexy story with some issues, instead I got a story that was full of bumbling idiots and juvenile speaking and jokes. It seemed the very small romance parts were right at the beginning (a couple of chapters) and the last chapter. The rest was an epic battle like the Hatfields and McCoys, filled with every stereo type you can imagine. This one sure wasn't worth my time to read it.
Storyline was good, a little akward at times, but all aoround it was pretty good. The sex scenes were few, with enough detail to keep you reading, but still wanting more. But I need to read the next book to decide it I am going to stick with the series.
Ok, on the plus side this book had some hilarious characters, realllly funny scenes and some great one liners. BUT the after awhile the total intolerance the hunters had for the shifters was so overwhelming that I couldn't get behind the overall story.
I liked the premise of this book but I didn't feel like the characters were developed very well. I know that this is the first book in the series and it did hold my interest enough to keep me reading but when I finished it I didn't feel a need to go and get the next book.
I thought it was cute. Must suspend reality (even for a paranormal) in the "fight" scenes. Otherwise only one thing was annoying. The lack of sentences stopping abruptly without signifying punctuation. Hence the cute but
Thankfully this was free on my kindle. This was lame. Things that were meant to be funny were not and things not meant to be funny were. I could only read 4 chapters.
Howling for my baby was an ok read but one I found hard to finish. The plot had potenial to be amazing but it was just passable and I just wasn't invested with the characters.
I didn't like this. It wasn't nearly as funny as it was clearly trying to be. The flamboyantly gay sidekick was such an offensive stereotype too. Not my cup of tea.
