The "My First Steps to Reading" series is based on a teaching activity that helps children learn to recognize letters and their sounds. The use of predictable language patterns and repetition of familiar words will also help your child build a basic sight vocabulary. Your child will enjoy watching the characters in the books place imaginative objects in "letter boxes." You and your child can even create and fill your own letter box, using stuffed animals, cut-out pictures, or other objects beginning with the same letter. This book concentrates on the letter d. Blends are included.

We're really loving this series. Will likely borrow them all from the library as our Pre-K year goes on.

I thought that this book was very creative and uses steps to first reading. I read this book to myself and started to think that the book would fit perfectly for little girls. The book focuses more on a little girl who takes care of her toy dolls. The creative part was that the illustration was lovely and the most of the pictures were relevant to the letter "D". I thought the very ending of the book was resourceful because the author leaves additionally words that also start with the letter "D".

1) No awards given.
2) Pre-K to 1.
3) A story about a girl who tries to find things that start with the letter "d" to put them in her "d" sound box.
4) Jane Belk Moncure has a book for each letter of the alphabet, but kids love these books because it can be very interactive while you're reading it and after. This is a great teaching tool.
5) You can ask kids to list other things that might go into the "d" sound box.

This book is all about the letter d. The little girl finds things that begin with the letter d and puts them in her box. The girl talks about two community helpers: doctor and dentist. This book would be good for little girls because it has a lot to do with dolls.

Jordyn loved when little d bought donuts for her dolls. She said that was so precious.

Helpful, but a bit to basic yet missing some obvious verb & vocabulary that would be better suited for the target age.
