The daughter of an Italian father and German mother, she studied art history and psychology at the University of Lüttich.

The first time I read this book was many years ago, but just recently I gave it a reread and I couldn’t be happier.
I love slow and descriptive books that take a lot of time to establish an atmosphere and focus on the characters surroundings. This is exactly what this book does. It’s great how De Cesco connects the developments in nature and the overall state of the Camargue to Estellas life and her decisions. At many times I found the descriptions and therefore established atmosphere breathtakingly fitting and genuine.
But aside from the writing in itself the plot also mesmerized me with its authenticity. The ongoing commercialization of the Camargue its connection to the heartbreaking events of Estella’s life are written in such a personal and realistic way.

I would recommend this book to anyone as it offers a critical perspective on capitalism, as well as an intriguing coming of age story about a relatable young girl. Great read!!!!
