Pil Soo Kim stood half-naked in the ice-cold Tumen river. Only thirty meters seperated him from China. He was shivering but he had to go on. His family was starving. There, on the other side of the freezing water, he could at least get some food. Many questions plagued him, 'Are the border police watching me at this moment through their binoculars? What if I'm caught? They will kill me. What will happen to Myung Hee and the children? They'll be locked up for two or three years, maybe seven. And what if they are unlucky? The firing squad!' At the same time, Pil Soo felt guilty. 'I am betraying my country. This is not allowed.' Danger was always present in crossing the border illegally. But there was no other way. This was his last resort. Escape From North Korea is a true story that gives a contemporary glimpse behind the walls of 'the Hermit Kingdom.' North Korea annually tops Open Doors' World Watch List of countries that restrict Christians in practicing or sharing their faith. The lives of Pil Soo Kim and his family help you understand why so many of North Korea's twenty million are engaged in the desperate quest for food, love and life. And you will meet those brave souls in China who risk everything to help North Korean refugees find the answers to their quest.
If you would like to have some idea about what it is like to live in North Korea, give this little book a read. The North Korean Government try to suppress so much in their countrymen’s life, even their religion. There are many Christians living in North Korea that help others become Christians by helping them get to China and learn who Jesus is. Through their faith they come to know the Lord and eventually escape to China and on to South Korea through this Christian based network. We need to keep praying for these Christians who help these North Koreans escape the suppressed lives they live. The lives where they are lied to about the world around them, the way they are starved, and the way the are kept as puppets of their great leader.
Truly God wanted this family to leave North Korea and get to South Korea or else they never would have made it. An incredible account of extreme poverty and God's provision and protection in a risky escape.
