The final story about the Chandler brothers does not disappoint. Chase had to grow up really quick after the death of his father when he was 18 years old. He takes on the father figure role to his two younger brothers as well as running the family paper. He has never made time to have a personal life. But that is about to change when he heads to Washington, DC for a story and meets a woman that intrigues him. It was one night that he will never forget. His story is about a well-known Senator running for vice president, when his wife offers Chase an exclusive that will make his career. There is a condition; he needs to look after the Senator’s daughter when he returns to his hometown of Yorkshire Falls. When he gets home, the woman that he promised to look after turns out to be his mystery woman. These two have so much baggage that it is easier for them to push the other away than to rely on each other. Wow, the miscommunication and crossed signals with these two is epic. Once they get on the same page, they are magic. I really enjoyed re-reading this series. It is still one of favorites!
It's time for Chase Chandler to fall down the rabbit hole and Sloane Carlisle is just the woman to lure him into it. I love how they meet, and how they become reacquainted. They get in their own way, but I can only laugh at the meddlers who won't let that stick.
"I just believe in safety first and kids never." -- Chase Chandler
Talk about a man about to eat his words. HA!
Samson Humphrey gets his back story, which after all that's happened with him through the other two books, it was nice, yet sad.
In addition to owning a copy of this book, I borrowed the audio book. The narrator is William Dufris. I like him for the guys, but not as much for the woman.
Best in this series, but not quite a 4. I reluctantly listened to the last installment of the Chandler Brothers series. I say reluctantly because while the stories were okay, the second one seemed to be amost the same as the first one. I was pleasantly surprized with this installment as it was quite a bit different. Chase, the oldest, was my favorite of the brothers from the beginning. His story was much more unique and a bit more realistic. Feeling obligated to take over after the death of his father almost 20 years ago, he put aside his dreams in the field of journalism. Now that his brothers are all grown up, he wants to go out an do his own thing. As he begins this, he meets a woman who ends up in his small hometown, following up on a family secret. (which can also be a huge scoop for Chase). Not to give so much away, but one of the most appealing parts of this story was hearing the backstory of the town recluse Sampson. Sampson was in the previous two installments and comes to the forefront in this one. Better than the other 2, but you'll have to read them to better appreciate this installment
Started listening to this. Too full of cliches for me to bear it ("molten gaze"--she actully wrote "molten gaze"! Ack!). Didn't even make it to the end of the first disc.
This was a solid series, and I really loved getting to know the Chandler family and seeing each brother find their HEA.
I knew Chase would have the heaviest story, because he was the one most affected by their father's death. He was the one, who put his dreams on hold to keep the family afloat, and now it was his time, but he had a battle between his head and his heart to deal with once he met Sloane.
Sloane's storyline was rather interesting. I did NOT expect the character, who played a central role to be as important as he was in this book. It was a surprise, but I liked it.
Though this was heavier, with more serious crime elements, it was still packed with lots of those fun bits I like.
Overall: A solid ending to a series I really enjoyed.
This book was so much fun, and I'm happy that we ended this series with Chase's story. It made sense, especially with his personality. And overall, this series has been wonderful. I've loved seeing Reina, Chase, Rowan, and Rick's respective love stories. Each story felt unique, while still following a formula in pacing. I am sad to see these characters' stories end for me, but it didn't overstay its welcome. I do think that Carly Phillips will be an author that I check out more books from in the future.
I'm gonna do this review as a whole for the Chandler clan LOL
I enjoyed all three books. If I was to put them in order of like it would go as follows: 1. The Heartbreaker 2. The Playboy 3. The Bachelor
Let me say that all 3 books were very easy to read, cute, fun and witty. And I loved that everyone seemed to be in everyone's book in some capacity. That's my favorite part about reading a series, when an author incorporates previous H/h in further books, especially family series.
The Bachelor in review: Roman and Charlotte made a good pair. They didn't WOW me with their chemistry, but it was a good hometown relationship.
I really loved Charlotte, except for her baggage. Had she been younger, I would have maybe accepted her view on life. But she wasn't. She's a grown woman who was basing her future happiness on ONE couple, her parents. And to top it off, we get told at the end, not the middle so it could be better developed in the story, that what she thought she knew was really not.
I think this book had really good potential, but too many plot-points were just thrown at us and not developed. Her personality was very cute and likable, and it made it easy to read the story but it could have been a lot more developed than it was. And as for Roman, the only thing that was odd is the coin toss attitude. It was as if it was just OK. No turmoil, no boo-hoo me, nothing. Like it was the most normal thing in the world … #twitchy LOL
The Playboy in review: I knew from page 7 that this book would have wit and sparks all over it and I was right. Rick and Kendall REALLY made a great couple.
There was a lot of comic relief in this book. Lisa ... Good Lord! Hannah ... she was the cherry topper in a book that was REALLY heartwarming.
I don't have any negative points. I really laughed a lot in this book.
The Heartbreaker in review: THIS book was my favorite of all. Chase and Sloan ... what can I say except kismet at its best! My goodness I found myself crying more than laughing in this book. Sloan had quite a few bombs dropped on her and she weathered them all like a champ. I REALLY liked her! Her slow developing love for a small town, her unconditional love and patience with Samson, just everything about her! LOL .... And Chase ... oh, he had the big brother head of the family blah blah blah down to a science! I honestly did feel a bit sorry for him because what he did for his family came naturally to him, but it affected his perspective of life and love in a way that even he didn't realize. BEST BOOK OF ALL, i tell ya!
Now that I am done doing a small review of the books, I'd like to add that Raina was the biggest hoot and the books would not have been the same without her constant appearance. And I loved that she also got her HEA but it was developed from book 1 and finally achieved in book 3 ... that was cool! And I cannot leave Samson out ... we met him in The Bachelor and I immediately fell in love with him and even he got his HEA of sorts in The Heartbreaker. GREAT BUNCH OF CHARACTERS ALL AROUND!
This has to be some of the most asinine writing I've read in a while.
Why?
Reason 1: Chase is a "man of few words." Ooorrrrr not. I don't know why some authors think they can declare a character to be something and somehow that makes the character act that way. There was never a moment where I thought "Gee, this Chase guy is so taciturn." He talked a normal amount for a human being. He was almost overly ready to talk about his feelings and his desires. In fact, there was nothing he really held back about himself or his family, except that he was going to get a scoop about Sloane's story in the end.
Reason 2: Sloane has a "real dad" that she's never met. I'm guessing that Phillips never interviewed someone who actually has been adopted or has met their birth parents. Because as an adopted child from a good family who has met her birth parents, I can offer some insight. Sloane is from a loving and kind family. She's never had any reason to feel ostracized by them nor was she treated differently than the biological children. An adopted adult would never call her birth parents her "real parents" more than once. Do you know why? Because an adult raised by a loving family would know that the "real" parents are the ones who were there for her every day of her life - the ones who wiped her nose, fixed her dinner, bought her new school clothes, listened when her first heartbreak happened. Those are the REAL parents. So for Sloane to continually call Sam her "real" dad the whole book is unrealistic.
I want to be clear that it would be perfectly fine for Sloane to be upset with her adoptive parents. Mad, even. But she acknowledges more than once that she still loves her parents, so it's just insulting her for to continually insist her "real" dad is Sam.
Reason 3: Sloane is the most insightful person ever. She knows Chase for all of - what, a week? - and suddenly she has perfect awareness of his feelings and what his motives are. She even knows better than Chase himself. I don't think so. And after two conversations with Sam she somehow understands all of Sam's personality and decisions. Again, no. Just no.
I think there are probably other issues I have with the book, but I've covered the three most obviously ridiculous. The first two books were bad enough, but after this, I won't be reading a Phillips book again.
It's sad to think this is the last in this series. It was great to know all of the brothers and find out what the other brothers are doing. Great summer book.
I loved Chase’s story. If you have been reading this series, you know that Chase is the oldest Chandler brother and helped raise his two younger brothers when their father died. It is funny that none of the brothers ever wanted to get married, but his two brothers have already fallen in love. They knew their mother was trying to find someone for each of them as she wanted grandchildren, but none of them were going to fall for someone.
I loved Sloane and how she came out of her prim and proper character since she was the daughter of a senator. My heart broke for her when she accidentally hears two of her father’s campaign managers talking about the senator not being her biological father, but another man and they were going to need to silence him. This information sent her into the arms of a stranger, but luckily that stranger is Chase. I was glad that Sloane’s step mother talked Chase into going back to his hometown to watch over Sloane as she looks for her biological father. Chase is promised the story of what is happening when the time is right. I enjoyed watching Chase and Sloane fall in love. There is also some danger that comes Sloane’s way when looking for her father. The book is written so well, and I went through so many emotions. I loved the book and strongly encourage you to read it. I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
The Heartbreaker is the third and final book in the Chandler Brothers series by Carly Phillips. It's my second favorite book and the only one where I didn't dislike one of the two main characters. Both of them were ok. They had some good characteristics and some bad. For example, I couldn't understand why Sloane treated her adoptive parents so horribly when she was claiming that she loved them and had such a strong connection with a man she barely knew. That whole plotline would have made more sense if she was feeling out of place before she discovered the truth that sent her to Yorkshire Falls. Chase was acting like the typical male in a romance book and I expected more from him.
What was surprising is the identity of Sloane's biological parents and especially her father. I didn't see that coming. Everything that had to do with her father was surprising and one of the main reasons I kept reading. If Chase wasn't so dense and had made a great grand gesture, I would have said that the romance was also good, but that man disappointed me.
Now that I have finished the series, I gotta say that in my opinion the series will either be loved or hated by the readers (there is no in between) and I would suggest to give it a try.
Book 3 and the last in the Chandler brothers series. This is about Chase, the eldest brother and the one that took over the father roll for his two brothers and the man of the house for his mom. This of course has left him cynical and not wanting to have a future or family because he has already raised two kids. Sloane is the one who knocks hi off his feet, although I did shout at the book when he let her go so easily. The mother finally confessed her sins but it seemed that what once was a lie became real life. Sloane was the senators daughter looking to find and warn her real dad. So much was in this book. From the danger to having to navigate a relationship after years of looking after you own family. I loved this series. A new one for me from this great author. I don’t know how I missed it.
I really loved each book in this series. I got all three paperbacks back in 2015. Just re read them all, and I still cried in this book. This one was my favorite of the series. I really loved how Chase had stepped up when his Dad died and he took care of his family. Loved the chemistry between him and Sloane. I cried so much for them, how he needs to be a “white knight”. It’s a fun, sexy and emotional book for me with some suspense. I highly recommend this book. I also had some happy tears in the ending.
"Same content but modernized" is a phrase I need to research more. The backstory of Sampson was interesting and that is the only reason this got an additional star. For a book written 20 years ago, it would be fine, I guess. I just don't see where it was "modernized" but maybe I just don't know what that means as a publishing term.
I wanted to dnf this book but i think i'm going to give it a second chance... reasons why this is only 2 stars: 1:the love interests had no chemistry 2:the translations had a lot of spelling mistakes (and when i notice it it's not good mate) 3:the characters had no development 4:the writing was meh as was the plot
I feel like this book had more suspense and action than the other 2 book in the series. It definitely kept my attention really well. The series as a whole was really well written and interesting.
So this was a left turn. In a good way. Much deeper than the other two in this series. So, "daughter" to the senator needs to find her bio dad and Mr Chandler the news paper man is right there to help.
Bit of action in the end was a pleasant surprise to go along with the HEA.
This series is really recommended for my Avon Auties.
So once again I leave the review on the last book of the series book 1 is The Batchelor - the story of Roman Chandler and Charlotte Bronson who have history - the love of each others life from childhood with a past neither really moved forward from. Roman was a bit of a free spirit, not wanting to settle down however a poorly unwell mother who wants to see her children settled and married with grandchildren and a brotherly coin toss to work out who was taking this responsibility brought Roman to the conclusion he needs to search for a wife and step up. The problem is nobody in town came close to Charlotte but independant, demanding Charlotte was not a woman happy to accept anything other than everything yet somehow Roman wanted nobody but her. Could Roman convince himself and Charlotte that his goals had changed and his future needed only her? Well of course he could! Chandler Brother 1 was taken care of
BOOK 2 - The Playboy - Rick Chandler is Yorkshire Falls playboy cop with his no commitment approach to women. He discovered Kendall Sutton on the side of the road in a wedding dress after she fled her wedding. The fake relationship they agreed to present to keep the towns women at bay became more real as they battled to look after and support a toubled sister excluded from boarding school. Looking after Hayley and a stray dog called Happy made Rick see that having his own family was exactly what he feared yet wanted more than anything and Rick had to acknowledge that he loved her for real. Kendall however was also reluctant to believe anyone would really be there for her and the baggage she brought. Would they make it?? Well yes of course. Chandler brother 2 taken care of. We also learn Roman is married and Rick is engaged!
BOOK 3 AND THE FINAL BOOK IN THE SERIES - The Heartbreaker - Chase Chandler the man who always steps up and takes on responsibility which he did after his dad passed away meets Slone Carlisle In Washington DC and they have a one night stand. Chase cannot do commitment because his whole life has been his family. That worked for Sloane, however what neither expect is for Slone to appear in Yorkshire Falls looking for her biological father and to see each other again. As Slone fights to trace and uncover her family secrets Chase is there every step of the way. Chase a reporter is offered the scoop that will give him the career break he has waited for but that will mean exposing Sloane and her family. Everything looks set for perfection that is until Sloane doesn't want to be another obligation for Chase to take on because he feels he has too. Sloane wants Chase to pick her because he makes that choice for himself. But can Chase do this. Add some danger, a gun shot wound and a bit of drama and this really sets up the series conclusion. Roman has their first baby with Charlotte. Rick and Kendall are married and living the family dream and Chase proves that he will be there for Sloane at all costs because that is exactly what he wants. Fab series! Loved it

The Heartbreaker is the 3rd and final book in the Chandler Brothers series by Carly Phillips. I can honestly say the series didn’t finish with a bang, but it finished nicely enough.
Chase Chandler finally has a chance to live his own life. When his father passed away unexpectedly he gave up college and stayed home to help raise his brothers, take care of his mom and run the family paper. Now, he’s finally going to bite the bullet and do something for himself. He’s going to write the story of a lifetime. When the senator’s wife asks him to keep an eye on her step-daughter while she’s in his hometown of Yorkshire Falls, in exchange for an exclusive interview, he seizes the opportunity. He senses there is something he’s not being told, but he really is between a rock and a hard place. This becomes even more apparent when he meets one Sloane Carlisle. She makes him think and want things he’s always refused. After all, his personal motto has always been “safety first, children never”.
Sloane Carlisle’s life has just fallen apart. Overhearing her father’s aids talking about the senator not being her real father is no way to find out this kind of news. To make matters worse, she heard them say they were going to make the problem go away. Armed with a little information including her “real” father’s name and the last town he lived in Sloane heads to Yorkshire Falls to meet him and to warn him that he could be in danger. The Senator was a good father and is a good man, so she doesn’t want anything to harm his presidential aspirations. She has to do this to protect both of her fathers. When Chase Chandler shows up and becomes her partner in crime she quickly finds he is there at the request of her step-mom, but he’s honest and helpful, so she’s fine with it. She quickly finds herself engulfed and accepted by the wonderful little town and the Chandler family and she loves every bit of it. She finds that she loves Chase most of all, but will never settle for anything short of everything.
The story was nice and as always the townspeople were delightful. This is a fun series and the Chandlers are a real family. They aren’t perfect, they are nosy, loud and at times obnoxious, but they love each other and are loyal. They are the type of family everyone should be blessed enough to have.
As the eldest of three rebel-rousing brothers, Chase Chandler has waited a long time to leave his small-town roots behind. All bets are off when the single journalist meets a redhead who arouses a lot more than lust. Yet Sloane Carlisle isn't just any woman. She's a senator's daughter who is about to thrust him into the eye of a breaking political scandal-and a shot at a story that's already making headlines. All Chase has to do for an exclusive is keep her out of harm's way. A woman who refuses to play the Washington game, Sloane has just been hit with a bombshell that calls her entire identity into question. Feeling vulnerable, she does something completely out of character: She spends an incredible, passionate night with a handsome stranger. The last thing she expects is to ever see him again. But when she goes to the Chandlers' hometown of Yorkshire Falls to uncover the truth about her family, there he is! Not only that, her sometime amour Chase Chandler is sticking closer than a Capitol Hill groupie and igniting more sparks than the Fourth of July. Suddenly a guy who has always steered clear of marriage is falling for a serious-minded woman with a family secret that could land them both in danger. If they survive the fallout, what will it take to get Sloane to say the two words that could turn the town's most eligible bachelor into the world's sexiest spouse? There was only one woman who turned Chase's head. Only one woman who made his heart beat. There was only one woman he asked to marry him. There was only one woman who broke his heart. 5 stars.
The Hearbreaker is third in the series of Chandler Brothers novels. I think I liked this one the best of all three.
When Chase and Sloan spend the night together they think it will only be a one night stand. But when chase is asked to watch over the Vice-President Candidate's daughter he realizes that it is the woman that he spent his night with. Maybe this isn't just a one night stand.
Sloan is reeling from the news that her Politician Father isn't the real thing. When she over hears his advisers talking about a strang man claiming to be her real father, she decides to find out about this man and leaves for upstate New York in search of him.
While the intrigue builds, so does the tension between Chase and Sloan. Sloan search's for the father she never knew, but she also finds that she is happy in this small community. The people are warm and accepting, but she can't stay. Chase is here and he doesn't want commitment. He is finally searching for his dreams after raising his little brothers and running the family newspaper since his father died. He doesn't want to be tied to a woman and a family, or does he?
Try this book on for size and see what you think of how Chase resolves the Conflict he is feeling.
This was the final installment for the Chandler bros series. In it Chase the eldest finally decides to "let loose" and find a woman to enjoy his time with. In that equation in comes a lady looking for a night of passion. Which he certainly doesn’t mind providing. As it turns out this “lady” is a friend’s daughter that he will be looking after while she is in town. She thought it was a one night stand and then she runs into him while visiting in the city. What to do. While she is staying with Chase, of course, they develop feelings for each other. Thing is they are unsure what to do about them.
Very enjoyable Carly Phillips novel . I suggest if your ever reading a series by her, go ahead and buy the set. You won’t be disappointed. She is great at setting up characters with great emotional depth, wit and intelligence. They aren’t your typical romance couples. I haven’t come across a Phillips novel I didn’t like
A "may-as-well-finish-a-trilogy" read that I only slightly regret. Almost gave up on it 60% but now it's over so... that's that. I don't hate it but I also kind of wish I'd done without it.
I still maintain that the premise is misleading: none of the brothers were actually players. They were actually so private it was painful enough to be a repeated source of tension/conflict.
