Similar to the book Life in the Oceans by Lucy Baker Life in the Rainforests is an informational non-fiction book that I would use for upper elementary students. This book has many facts about the rainforest and includes images that show and explain the three levels of the rainforest; canopy, understory, and forest floor. There is also a map that helps students visualize where rainforests are in the world. The book goes on about the climate, animals, and even people that live in the rainforest. One fun fact that I did not know is that the Pygmy people who live in the African rainforest are typically under 4'8 tall.
This book provides information to learn about the life in the rain forest. It includes animals and peoples lives in the rain forest. There are side notes with facts about the rain forest. There is glossary at the end of the book for words that could be new to students. This would be a great book to read to learn about the rain forest.
This book contains a lot of information about the rainforest. It would be difficult to read the entire book aloud, but it would be possible to read aloud certain sections or have students use it for research. I really like how this book discusses the people and cultures found in the rainforest.
I am reading this book because it is a part of the grade 5 Making Meaning resource kit. This book is informative, provides a lot detail, and should be well-received by students. Photos, maps and diagrams are clear.
