Jena Hudson returns to Texas to finalize the sale of her deceased aunt's ranch to her neighbor. The last thing she expected was to find her very own rugged, sexy cowboy in Harmon Steel.
Harm and Jena forge a white hot connection, but he learned a long time ago that happy-ever-afters don’t exist. Living in-the-moment is the best he has to offer.
So what's a girl to do when she finds out the man capable of fulfilling her steamiest fantasies doesn't believe in a happy ending? Given the right set of circumstances, she'll create one for him.
Note: HARM'S HUNGER is a novella and meant for mature readers. This is the first story in the hot and steamy BAD IN BOOTS series. All the other books are novel length and each book is a stand alone story.
Born and raised in the Southeast, award-winning author Patrice Michelle gave up her financial calculator for a keyboard and never looked back. Thanks to an open-minded family who taught her that life isn't as black and white as we're conditioned to believe, she pens her novels with the belief that various shades of gray are a lot more interesting. She's a natural with a point-and-shoot camera, likes to fiddle with graphic design and, to the relief of her family, strums her guitar to an audience of one.
Well, that's the condensed, back-of-the-book bio about moi, anyway. :o)
As for becoming a writer...I wasn't one of those writers scribbling stories as soon as I could write, but I was a voracious reader. At the age of fifteen, I told my mom after I'd finished reading a book, "One day, I want to be the one who writes the kind of books readers think about long after they've closed it."
As Patrice Michelle, I write dark, sexy, action-packed paranormal and contemporary romances.
As P.T. Michelle, I write dark paranormal YA books. My first P.T. Michelle book is coming in July: BRIGHTEST KIND OF DARKNESS.
Wow, I'm impressed at how much I've enjoyed this read. This (very short) story could have gone seriously wrong with me because Harm and Jena had one of those insta-love relationships that require a huge suspension of disbelief to work, but somehow Ms. Michelle made me overlook that.
Here's the gist of the story: Harm and Jena meet, lust takes over and, minutes later, they're jumping each other's bones before introducing themselves and exchanging the most simple pleasantries; then they become "enemies" when they find out the other's identity (he wants to buy her ranch, she isn't sure she wants to sell it); then they have a minor car accident and he loses his memory; she takes advantage of the situation to try and smooth things between them, they fall in love... and we all know what happens next. But here's the exceptional twist to this fairly common plot: all that happens in the span of 24 hours! Yes, Harm and Jena go from being complete strangers to engaged to be married in one single day!
You must be thinking I'm crazy for giving this book 4 stars, but what can I say? I really liked it. I know the story was unrealistic, but I liked Harm and Jena: they were nice and fun, their love scenes were sexy and hot (once I got past the sex-with-strangers setup) and I wanted them to be together. At the end of the day, that's what matters when I read a romance book, no matter how unbelivable the story is. It's all in the writing: some authors can make me buy anything, others can't. Based on this read, Ms. Michelle belongs in the former group.
Argh! This book frustrated me. It had so much potential. It could've been great. There was a beginning and an end but its like the middle was missing. It was like eating a sandwich with nothing in between the bread.
Don't get me wrong, Harm is hot! I was good with the insta-attraction in this but the insta-love based on a lie, not so much. And the lie was kind of swept under the rug like it was inconsequential. In a little less than 24 hours they go from complete strangers to engaged.
If there was a little meat to this story and there was some kind of conflict and resolution over the lying it would have been so much better.
If the other books in this series are written this way I won't be reading them.
It was ok, nothing really grabbed me from the get go. It wasn't "erase from my kindle" bad, but it also wasn't "can't put down til I finish" either. It was just ok.
No story, just sex; really short. There is no character development. The two characters meet, have sex, there's some lying, and then they're in love. Really short "book".
This was a sweet, quick story. Woman inherits ranch, hot cowboy neighbour wants to buy it but she doesn't want to sell. It had a really interesting start and I enjoyed the ending even though it was a bit rushed. Good smut and a hot cowboy so not very much to dislike and mighty fine for a freebie.
If you want to read a fantasy, with lots of hot, passionate sex then this book is for you. This was a very short book. Jena, and Harm met in an elevator when the elevator suddenly stopped between floors. Jena’s bathing suit top broke. The passion they shared was very hot, and steamy. A short time later they were in a wreck, and Harm hit his head, causing him to have memory loss. When Harm asked who she was, she lied and said that they were dating. When harm got his memory back he wasn’t mad, he just wanted to marry Jena. So this was a story about love at first sight, a couple of living out fantasies.
Nice short story. I found the beginning a bit rushed and the idea of someone getting in a lift wearing a malfunctioning bikini and carrying nothing more than a hand towel slightly unbelievable. It whiled away a a couple of hours though and it was free.
Anytime a couple meets and has a sexual encounter within the first chapter you know the book will melt your panties, but when that encounter takes place in an elevator well…forget the panties, it’s just gonna melt your insides!
The minute Jena and Harm meet the attraction is evident and undeniable (hence the elevator scene) and while we’d all like to say it’s unbelievable, you can’t tell me that you’ve never had the urge to jump a hot guy (or girl) before you even know their name.
Harm is a cowboy, he lives and works on a ranch and wants Jena’s aunt’s property to add to his holdings. He’s brawny, loving, controlling, and afraid of commitment. Jena is sassy and devious. She pretends to be Harm’s girlfriend after he’s had a head injury so she can spend more time with him. It’s amusing to see how this sneaky action led to an interesting outcome.
While I do enjoy novellas, this one seemed ultra short. I would have loved a little more background on the characters and more plot line. But, it is still a wickedly delicious and fun read. Ty’s Temptation is the next in the series and I’m looking forward to reading this offering by Patrice!
A novella that is set in the ranch country of Texas and is a fun, erotic love story--sort of the "love at first sight" kind of story. Add in a bit of the "coming back home" feeling, a little bit of amnesia, a lot of sizzle, and you have a cute short story that will entertain and which I think was very enjoyable to read.
I sorry but there is no exception to lying to someone when they loss there memories after a crash and say reason for it to if he can be a happy ever after an then get mad when he remembers everything an I piss at you just . reason for three stars is I like harm if not for him two stars it would be
Just so happens that the man wanting to buy his late neighbour's property from the two heirs has Harm heading off in the elevator where he bumps into Jena. The makings if a good fairy tale. Two strangers with right off the top chemistry; epic bikini top failure; keeping a straight face when he walks in to the hotel room and is introduced to her; then an accident where he has selective memory loss; all night long sex. Then he realises she lied to him; doesn't get too angry just enough to not really want anything to do with her and avoids her. But buys her whole card at the dance-a-thon, ensure she gets food after nearly collapsing and when he realises that he could be losing something special maybe precious then he overcomes his issues and morphs into a modern day prince and they in love and engaged to be married.
Not a bad read if you wanting a quick read and can over look some of the not quite plausible happenings.
100pgs. Short and easy insta-love. The fact that she thought in any world that it would be ok to tell him or let him believe that they were a couple drove me f'ing mad, and I almost tossed it. I did persist tho, and I guess it was the fact that the insta-love still had the glitch that kept them apart once he figured out she had lied to him about something like that.
Again, this is not a deep read by any standard, but I did like the characters and the story around 'lying to the guy with the head injury' was alright.
Should have been called a novella since halfway through the pages. the book abruptly ended. Yes it was steamy but a bit unbelievable on the sex that occurred was between complete strangers. Then after a month or so of barely speaking, they go to a charity dance and decide they like each other and then get married. The end. Too abrupt for me. And all of the remaining pages were related to other books!
Not the best of books but passed a pleasant couple of hours. A bit of instant lust and I didn’t like the strangers having sex angle right at the start. It sort of meanders without a true direction but a few things happen that show some spark. Ends really quickly and I didn’t think the short engagement was a good idea. These two need time to learn about each other outside of having sex. I read this ages ago but if I reviewed it back then it is no longer available.
I'm a fan of insta likes and I liked the sexual tension and the heated scenes. I liked Jena and Harm together and the scenes with each of them getting up earlier and earlier to take care of the horses were funny.
Not sure why there were so many scenes where she had needed rescuing. She was so greatly competent every where else with getting the house fixed up, grooming and riding the horses...
It was a quick book but Harm's turn was too fast for me where he laid it out all out quick and heavy. I think I'd rather have had a bit more tension to draw it out.
This is the first book I've read by the author. I will be searching for other books.
Quick, fun and hot. This book is full of chemistry and heat. Chance meeting, quick hookup and spoiled business signing are how it starts. Great quick read that will keep you in your ties. Loved it and Harm
I enjoyed reading this book! Harm is definitely a new book boyfriend! And the added benefit of Mister Black definitely has me wanting to read more by this author!
