You'll learn how your body can help you:
One of the oldest books on my to-read list and I'm determined to read those books and take them off the list. I loved the idea of this book but the actual writing and delivery of the information isn't for me. I don't need to be journaling about how my parents felt when they conceived me. I was hoping for something "more" but this is really just about being mindful and addressing issues instead of ignoring them (like we tend to do when the issues are unpleasant).
I've read a lot of self-help/personal growth books and I'm really impressed with this one. Sisgold presents his material and techniques in an engaging and easy-to-follow prose. His exercises, for the most part, are "doable" without a lot of preparation. In the book, Sisgold coins the term WBC for "whole body consciousness". I particularly like SET, a quick way of doing a body scan and getting in touch with present emotions and physical sensations. This exercise can take as little as 2 minutes and is immensely helpful. Also, he has a way of articulating concepts I've heard before in simple and powerfully accurate ways that resonate and make the lightbulb go on. For example, his explanation of upward, downward, and wayward thoughts is spot on. I haven't done all the exercises yet, but I plan to keep working with this book. Some other topics/exercises are "releasing viral beliefs", straight talk, weight management, finding your own garden of wisdom, life purpose, polarity relationships, Be the CEO of your life. Highly recommended.
I'm always interested in these sorts of things. It was intriguing but didn't necessarily apply to the stress I have right now. Some of the stories on understanding funny little tics or things we do can be related to things that happened to us when we were young. Just another scary reminder that I might be ruining my children forever.
A few good points, but the approach didn't appeal to me and the style was over-hyped. Many of the effective aspects book would work independent of this author's packaging. Perhaps it would appeal more to very visual and visualizing people.
This book contains a wealth of tools and techniques for being present and getting in touch with the critical messages our bodies are sending to us. This is one of those books to keep referring back to over and over for new awarenesses and deeper wisdoms. Definitely a keeper!
