Each work was selected by an award-winning jury of artists, designers, and art directors, and each image includes the size, title, and medium employed. Artists include such masters as Don Maitz, Michael Whelan, Jeffrey Jones, Alex Ross, Barry Windsor-Smith, David Bowers, Greg Spalenka, Kent Williams, Rick Berry, John Jude Palencar, and James Gurney. Spectrum 5 also includes the recipients of the yearly Chesley Awards, presented by the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists.

i remember first coming across the Spectrum art books in my twenties, when i would buy books simply for their dust jackets and hope the story inside wasn't too awful... the art in these books is amazing, creative, imaginary, dreamlike, fascinating, and ultimately full of life and the love of wonder and wondrous things... i would own them all if i could... extremely highly recommended...

If you are into Spectulative Fiction or Comic art, this Annual is a great way to see your favourite cover artists and find new artists. In the introduction to this one (1997), there are some interesting comments regarding the "new" digital art medium spreading and its potential impact on the industry.

If you love fantasy and SiFi art of any type; paintings, drawings, sculpture, cartoons then this is the book for you. Fantastic selection of the years art. You can't help but find something you like inside. Highly recommended

Although I do not read many " Fantasy Books " I found this art book both interesting and beautiful.
