About the author

Stephanie Mary Dalley (b. March 1943) is a British Assyriologist and scholar of the Ancient Near East. Prior to her retirement, she was a teaching Fellow at the Oriental Institute, Oxford. She is known for her publications of cuneiform texts and her investigation into the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, and her proposal that it was situated in Nineveh, and constructed during Sennacherib's rule.

يتناول هذا الكتاب بدراسة تفصيلية مدينة ماري والتي تقع الان في سوريا في الضفة الجنوبية لاواسط الفرات قرب البو كمال الحالية، كانت ذات تاريخ عظيم خلال فترات حضارة بلاد الرافدين القديمة وخاصة في العصر البابلي القديم، وقد خضعت لسيطرة عدة ملوك من العراق القديم،
بينما مدينة كارانا موجودة حالياً في شمال العراق في ضمن موقع تل الرماح على بعد 17 كم جنوب من تلعفر .
يقدم الكتاب دراسة تفصيلية شبه كاملة استناداً للقى المادية التي عثر عليها خلال التنقيبات وذلك من خلال تصوير حياة بعض أعضاء العوائل الملكية والرجال والنساء الذين كانوا في خدمتهم ووسائط النقل ومعتقداتهم وعباداتهم وكيفية ممارسة تلك العبادات والقرابين مع تركيز على دور المرأة في تلك الفترة وبالاخص شبتو زوجة زمري ليم حاكم ماري والملكة ايلتاني ملكة كارانا، وغيره الكثير ضمن ثنايا هذا الكتاب .

Para mí, este libro ha sido un fantástico regalo. Un tesoro del que sacaré buen provecho. Lamentablemente, está descatalogado, pero, para los interesados en la historia de la antigua Mesopotamia es una lectura obligada.
