Laura Lee Shannon was a pint-size package of blond beauty, mischievous spirit and fierce Southern pride. She'd do almost anything to get the money to save her war-ravaged plantation--even promise to marry a man she hardly knew. But she would not go to Texas with that domineering, obstinate, cocky brother of his who had come to fetch her!
She'd sooner shoot Jack Winthrop than smile at him. But his dark eyes beckoned her close, and a wild longing threatened her defenses. They were both safer if she hated him. But how long could her icy words cool the fire burning in their hungry hearts?

Small and feisty Laura Lee must go through with an arranged marriage to save her family's Louisiana plantation. Hero Jack, brother of the man she's supposed to marry, comes to bring her to Texas and to her future husband. The book was enjoyable but it seemed to slow down a bit halfway through. It did have some very funny moments. I liked Laura Lee's cute little brother Tad. The book also had some nice moments on riverboats, gambling, and a talkative pet parrot.
I used to read quite a bit of historical romance books, but I've kind of gotten away from it in the last few years. I love historical fiction and am a helpless romantic so it's the perfect combination for me. I decided recently that I wanted to start adding some more historical romance books back into my reading. After grabbing a few off my shelves, I settles on Golden Bird by Jo Ann Algermissen. It was such a fun read! A feisty heroine and a dashing hero with plenty of action!
Nonostante la partenza in modalità diesel, sono rimasta incollata alle pagine fino alla fine. Mi è piaciuta molto l'ambientazione, con un tocco di western.
