This beautifully illustrated, whimsical tale of two polar bear cubs teaches an important lesson about trying new things. Kids will love the adorable bears as they travel through the Arctic and learn that swimming isn't just what bears do, it's also really fun!
Found this at my used library sale for a dollar. I thought I owed it to my polar bear-obsessed inner child. But what a find this was! The illustrations were so otherworldly and beautiful.
Read in tandem with Jabari Jumps--two books about parents helping children overcome their fear of (literally) diving in! Then we talked about what people in our lives had taught us or encouraged us to do. Just wish it came in Spanish too.
About a mother polar bear and her two cubs. She shows them the world, but let's them experience it on their own. I loved the illustrations and so did my son.
I know this is a picture book but this just didn’t make sense. Why were the Cubs scared of the water. Also it felt like there were way too many other animals around for the location.
This was not a favorite from the library haul for my sweet girl. It’s a short story of mama bear teaching her babies to swim. The illustrations are beautiful.
Mama bear has two cubs, who must learn to swim. Also, blueberries.
Love the illustrations in this one, especially Jones's oceans. The swirls of blue and green are pretty great. The story is good not great and the kindergartners liked it. Paired with Old Bear which worked well.* Will read next year.
* Discussed what was similar in each and then talked about how I love the illustrations in each, even though they're different styles. Asked the students to tell me one by one which they liked best and it split roughly 50/50)
Animal story about two babies that learn to overcome their fears of taking their first steps into the ocean under the guidance of their mother. I would use this story to create a discussion about trying new things and overcoming fears. Good for students who may seem shy or scary about doing new things at school. Good for prek-first graders.
Copyright date: 2008 This is a great book about growing up. I own this book, and it uses polar bears to explain growing up. It is very cute, has great illustrations, and is engaging to students. I plan on having this book in my future classroom. This book would go well with curriculum talking about life.
This book was about two polar bear cubs who stumble onto a large "pond" of water. The mother swims to an island and encourages her cubs to do the same. The cubs take their first frightening swim to discover they like the new thing they tried.
A sweet story about two polar bear cubs who learn to swim. The illustrations are beautiful and fun and the story can be enjoyed by all ages. With global warming this is a great story to introduce children to Polar bears and how important they are to our world.
This one was such a great read with my nephew. He is obsessed with Finding Nemo and loved the colorful fish swimming with the polar bears. It was a fun and colorful read. The illustrations were pretty and the story was cute.
