When veggie-nibbling Grazers and meat-munching Biters take to the soccer field, it's a showdown of prehistoric proportions. Diplodocus shows an herbivore's soft touch and strikes first for the Grazers. But Gallimimus takes a pass from the twin Pterodactyls on the wings and finishes it off to even things up for the Biters. In the second half, Apatosaur scores the go-ahead goal for the veggie-side, but then a brawl results in red cards for both teams. Hungry to tie the game, Biter Allosaurus takes advantage. Now it's 2-2, setting up the teeth-gnashing, claw-curling final minutes. Dinosaurs face off in prehistoric sports competitions―from baseball to wrestling and every sport in between! Will the plant-eaters become the champions? Or will the meat-eaters be victorious? Fast-paced, rhyming commentary and exuberant illustrations put readers right in the action. Sure to thrill dinosaur lovers and sports fans alike!
All young dinosaur fans will enjoy reading this fiction sports book that has well known dinosaurs competing against one another. Children will want to know the facts about these dinosaurs before reading this action-filled picture book. Plant-eating dinosaurs face meat-eating dinosaurs in a soccer match.
Another fun addition to the Dino-Sports series! This time the Grazers play the Biters at soccer. I've never really followed soccer, but this series is written so that you don't really need to know the intricate rules of the game to know what's happening. I also appreciated that the players showing poor sportsmanship were ejected from the game.
Wheeler has an entire series with dinosaurs playing sport, but this one is the best because of the flow of the text. The rhymes are much better compared to the Hockey, Football, Basketball, and Baseball ones. We've tried them all and my kid only wanted to read the soccer one again.
In this book, the two teams of dinosaurs played a game of soccer. The book is very good for long O sounds, because of the key words Dino and Goal. It's also great for students who like soccer, and dinosaurs.
Another great dinosaur sport book by Lisa Wheeler! In this one the dinosaurs play soccer. With wonderful rhyming text, vivid illustrations, and great dinosaur references this book will be one that kids will adore!
The dinos are back - and this time the are playing a game that both boys (Asher 7yo and Dex 5yo) not only play, but love! Great rhyme, exciting action, GOOOOOAAAAALLLL!
I liked it because it was funny and there was a problem. I liked the colors of the dinosaurs. I liked it when the big dinosaur kicked the ball and the little dinosaur was looking up like he was going get crushed.
My only issue is that the illustrations are too much. Too many dinosaurs, too much color. I understand that the crowding is probably to show a raucous soccer game, but it is too much for one's eyes.
Great concept - but something tells me the carnivores would win every time. Small children will enjoy this story of friendship and teamwork; if you know a small boy/girl that is just starting to play soccer and happens to also be a dino fan then this is the book you have been waiting for!
Another winner for my kids, especially since our soccer season just started. And as soon as Dino Hockey is available at our library, we'll check that one out too.
This book barely kept my 2yo daughter's attention, but my 4yo son LOVED it. What could be better than dinosaurs and soccer? He spent an hour today just looking at the pictures.
Two dinosaur teams, the Grazers and the Biters, compete in a thrilling soccer match. Students are prone to actively cheer for one team or the other due to the rhyme-scheme's sportscaster-style patter. This picture book would have earned 3 stars for me if not for one thing (about which my students and I have written the publisher and author): one line reads "Side by side kaitill Stego steals." Using a single completely made-up word in an otherwise sensical story throws the whole balance off when reading aloud to primary students.
If you've got a kiddo who loves dinosaurs and loves sports, particularly soccer, this may be the book for you. The wording was short and at an appropriate level for preschoolers with a smooth cadence and plentiful rhymes. However; the pictures were jam-packed and distracting and in a style that I don't care for. The story itself is a play-by-play of a soccer match between two teams of dinosaurs. The dinosaurs were called by nicknames instead of the full names and each dino had a short description of its unique features.
I probably would like this one better if I knew more about soccer. Unfortunately I was the mother whose son said "Mom, please put down that book and watch the game." As far as my daughter and soccer, the first practice she came home and said "Mom, When will it be my turn to kick?" I'm not sure soccer aggression was part of her upbringing. Anyway, I put this in books for boys, but I'll bet soccer playing girls will also enjoy it.
Two dinosaur teams play each other in a competetive soccer match. I was afraid to read this one aloud because I didn't know how to pronounce all the dino names (and therefore had no idea whether or not the text would scan properly). They don't tell you all the crazy things you'll need to know in library school. :)
We really liked this one. A few hard words - lots of complex sounds for Jackson, names of dinosaurs, but overall really fun. He particularly enjoys the rhythm of rhyming books and it helps me to help him pick up the pace while reading. Getting to squeeze in a few soccer facts, like the difference between yellow and red cards, doesn't hurt either!
Our preschool boys loved this one and we read it multiple times in a row. I'm grateful that the players went by nicknames like "Pachy" so I didn't have to read "Pachycephalosaur" over and over again.
Perhaps I am overly critical of titles which combine popular themes, but this one missed the mark. A child obsessed with dinos and soccer may overlook it but I found the title a bit clumsy at times.
Maybe I'm being a bit harsh, but I don't think the author had any real knowledge of soccer. In the 15 years that I played organized soccer I never remember using the terms "checking" or a "shoulder charge". Not sure where these came from.
This was a fun book using soccer jargon and different types of dinosaurs. It was the biters (carnivore dinosaurs) verse the grazers (herbivores) and highlighted the different types of dinosaurs between each team accordingly.
It's adorable! I loved reading it to my daughter, who knew all the dinos and we both enjoyed the illustrations. I admit I groaned when she picked this one out at the library. I stand corrected. Great way to keep a little dino fan happy.
