Rate this book
The Empire of Nurn

In his most challenging adventure, Blade is held captive in a new Dimension by a marauding race of amphibious mermen. But Blade quickly learns that none are so treacherous as the double-dealing Nurnians who conspire to pit the mermen against the floating Sea Cities of Talgar in a lethal struggle to end in mutual annihilation.

Escaping from the mermen with the assistance of a beautiful and influential woman, Blade has learned the bitter truth--the Nurnians will stop at nothing in their insatiable quest for power. But in their blinding lust for dominance of the Crystal Seas, they have become careless.

Blade, disguised as a Talgarian arms buyer, penetrates the Empire and kidnaps one of the leading merchants. The astounding revelation of the Nurnian treachery and their evil deception bonds the mermen and Talgarians together against the Empire. But the new alliance must first survive the all-out attack of the formidable Nurnians, who remain determined at all costs to rule the Crystal Seas.

Whew! I'm becoming sour to the Richard Blade series. Too much too soon.

Blade being the superman he is defeats a plesiosaur-like creature almost single handedly in the first few chapters. Naked and weaponless even. Makes for exciting reading, but in retrospect it is way over the top.

This world is interesting especially with one of the races living primarily underwater. Seems pretty obvious that the story is going to revolve around the two races warring. Until about three quarters of the way through, when another faction is revealed. I find it odd how these books constantly utilize three factions against one another. Cookie cutter.

Think I need to take a break from the series.

I thought this one was pretty weak. It started out very very slow but did improve a bit on into the book. I don't know who wrote this one but the action was not terribly well done, although the sex was pretty well done. I didn't think the character of Blade was quite captured either.

Richard Blade travels to new worlds and never fails to find danger and love. Good quick men's adventure read. Recommended
