“Jemma had me at hello… but she was somebody’s wife.”
Dr. Ezekiel Green is ready to make a fresh start in a new city after the divorce from his high school sweetheart. What was supposed to be a professional business dinner with a future colleague quickly transformed into a love at first sight encounter… or so he thought. Dr. Jemma Holiday was spirited, brilliant, beautiful, and another man’s wife.
“Doesn’t he know I’m somebody’s wife? Does he care? Shit… do I care?”
Dr. Jemma Holiday had the perfect life, love, marriage, and family in the public’s eye. But behind closed doors, betrayal and mundane monotony were suffocating. A marriage of situational necessity. What was supposed to be a pleasurable evening out with her sorority sisters, abruptly transitioned to the one-night stand of her dreams… or so she thought.
Hey Loves! I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri (in the words of Nelly, “I’m from the Lou and I’m proud!) with incredible parents and two amazing older sisters. Born Stacey Renee, I was the baby of the bunch and always had a vivid imagination – was wise beyond my years (to grown for my own good) if you ask my mother!
My love for talking too much (ha!), journaling, daydreaming, reading & watching various genres of movies, books I went to journalism school, determined to become Oprah! After finishing my degree, I did everything but becoming a journalist. I dishonored my childhood dreams of being in some form of entertainment but found a way to use this big mouth for good in the diversity, equity, and inclusion space.
I rekindled my love for reading and writing during the 2020 pandemic where my alter ego & pen name, Robbi Renee was born. Robbi is my daddy’s nickname so my pen name pays homage to him. (Yep! I’m still a daddy’s girl!) Renee, as you can see is my middle name – Robbi Renee!
I started Love Notes by Robbi Renee as an outline to release all of the stories that live in my head. I was challenged to write and publish my first novella, French Kiss Christmas, published December 2020.
Robbi Renee draws upon personal experiences with life and love. My written works are inspired by my adoration for Black love, and stories of romance, heartache, trauma, intuition, and redemption.
Stacey/Robbi Renee enjoys her own Black family love story with her husband George and teenage son.
What do you do when you meet your soulmate but, you’re somebody’s wife?!!! Timing was not on the side of Jemma and Ezekiel. She’s unhappily married and he’s newly divorced but, that doesn’t stop the instant attraction between the Dean of Student Affairs and the New Provost of Monroe University. Jemma is well aware of her husband’s infidelities but, she chooses to ignore them and stay in what has become a marriage of convenience for appearances sake. All that changes when Quinton’s heauxish behavior is publicly exposed and embarrasses Jemma in the worse way. Somebody’s Wife is so much more than a book about marital infidelity. The dynamics of Jemma and Quinton’s marriage is a story as old as time. So much of her identity is wrapped up in being a wife and mother that, she lost herself and has to figure out how to get back to being Jemma and putting herself first for a change. Zeke was more than happy to help liberate her along this new journey of self-discovery. He became the peace Jemma had been missing and longing for, he stimulated her intellectually and physically, and fed her soul while patiently waiting on the sidelines without complaint or pressure. Honey, Zeke was EVERYTHING!!! The sisterhood dynamics and the authenticity of the HBCU experience were well represented. I could just feel the homecoming vibes coming through the pages. Come on black excellence! Somebody’s Wife was such a beautifully written book. The complexities of the characters and the storyline will draw you in and hold you hostage. Not only was Jemma's emancipation empowering and courageous but, unfortunately, it’s also very relatable. This story could very well be someone’s reality. I implore you to read this book. You will not be disappointed.
“Now what am I supposed to do when I want you in my world? How can I want you for myself when I’m already someone’s girl?” The great Erykah Badu summed up Ezekiel and Jemma’s situation perfectly!
When I tell you this book owes me nothing….🗣it owes me NOTHING! I loved this book soooooo much!! OMG!!!!! This is my age demographic so I was able to relate to the dynamics of these relationships and characters on a personal level!
Jemma is a highly successful 40 year old career driven woman. But because she’s spent half her life as somebody’s wife and mother she’s lost her true identity. Living for her husband and daughter, she’s lost who she truly is as a woman and sadly this has allowed her to turn a blind eye to her husband’s infidelities. Despite the support of her sisterhood ( BIG shoutout to Quaron and Maxi) she’s afraid to take that leap and walk away because she doesn’t know who she is outside of being somebody’s wife.
Ezekiel is a recently divorced professional looking for a fresh start and is steps closer to living out his dreams as a Provost at an HBCU. Little did he know that his new career would lead him to ultimately fall in love with somebody’s wife.
This story was simply amazing and witnessing their journey was beautiful to read! Robbi wrote the hxll out of this book! The homecoming!!! I was there! Walking through the caverns!! I was there! Time square!! I 👏🏽was👏🏽there!!! Every scene in this book has me feeling like I was there.
I felt bad for Quinton! 🫣I honestly do believe that he was remorseful. He realized he really fxcked up and I believe if given the chance he would’ve done things differently. Too bad life doesn’t work that way! Besides, that constant reminder of your indiscretions is a HARD NO to reconciliation. I will say that the way Robbi wrote his pain had me thinking like hmmmmm is therapy an option?! Don’t judge me judge ya mama and blame the author 😩Not to mention Quaron told us from day one @my brother is 👏🏽a👏🏽heaux!!” Y’all better start believing these folks that know them best 🤧🤧
Ezekiel was a very intentional lover, mind body and soul! This man knew that it took more than the physical to establish a lasting connection! He captured Jemma’s mind long before he ravaged her body! I LOVED him in this book!! And baybey!!!! That Friendsgiving action!!! 🥵🥵🥵
The song selection in this book was so fitting and perfectly placed adding an even more enjoyable element to the story! This was easily a 5 ⭐️ read and I highly recommend it!
- Zeke was everythinggggg and I loved seeing Jemma’s growth in this book! If you like only for the week by Natasha Bishop, you’ll love this book! I feel like it gave similar vibes. So much going on, found family with a close group of friends, and a super passionate love story!! - Wish there hadn’t been so much spice, but I did enjoy how most of it was so heartfelt. I’m not super obsessed with spice so if there had been a little less, I definitely would have loved it even more but it was such a great story overall. - I love that the story was set over almost an entire year! Even though the book was only a little over 200 pgs I feel like I really got a full storyline and could really feel all of the emotions!!
I did not love this. But i did love the HBCU setting. I think this is a case of “it’s me and not the book”. For some reason i just couldn’t connect with these characters. I couldn’t even bring myself to care about everything Jemma was going through 😔 Also phrases like “swollen bulb”, “dripping dams”, “dewy pussy” etc. in the sex scenes especially in Ezekiel’s POV didn’t help. It had me cringing and skipping most of the sex scenes. I think I would come back to it another time and give it another shot.
I, like Jemma thought Quinton was her forever, until he wasn’t. After 20 years, Jemma was in her marriage alone but she stayed—drained, neglected, and disrespected. From the moment that the Good Doctor Zeke stepped onto the page he had all my attention. “Don’t think. Don’t hesitate. Just come.” Make no mistake this was more than lust, this was truly two souls calling out to each other.
I would have called that man and told him I’m never coming home: “withholding my shouts of joy because this man should not be my delight.” <——This right here, Zeke was definitely a delight, a damn treasure as was Jemma. I am so glad she started living for herself, healing herself, and allowing Zeke to be her safe haven when she needed it most but still strong enough to stand on her own two when necessary.
I absolutely love the writing and execution of this story.
This was an okay read. I struggled with a few things. 1. I loved Ezekiel , but I found it hard to rally behind his love interest. 2. Jemma’s behavior in regards to handling the separation, herself and then always leaving Ezekiel in the dark was annoying. 3. This book starts strong and then loses flow to wordiness.
This is my first read by this author. It took me far longer to finish that I thought it would because it went from page-turner to let me stick it out.
Whew! Lots of emotions throughout this book! My heart ached for Jemma and Ezekiel! There was so much love and adoration and understanding but she belonged to someone else. Quinton really was the worst because how do you mess up your family and blame your wife? Ugh he drove me insane. I like how the author let Jemma go through all the emotions of heartbreak, love after heartbreak, and self acceptance. That prologue made me sadder for Jemma because that man was her first everything! Beautiful writing and a beautiful forbidden love story that defies the odds! I hope to see more of Jemma and Ezekiel. Also updates on Shiloh, Quaron, Mallory, Maxine, Ezra and The cousin who’s name I’m forgetting! Overall great story!
Audiobook review - March 2023 - WHEW!!! I loved the book when I read but listening to my two fave narrators bring the words to life made it even better. I LOVED this audiobook. It's one of those that will be in rotation. Oh and I still can't stand Quinton and don't feel sorry for him. lol
Ezekiel n Jemma. I couldn’t put this book down. It was really good.
alright, i can’t lie this book almost lost me in the prologue. i thought there was no way i was going to like these characters and then i remember the prologue is set while they were in college. of course they seemed a little immature. as i continued to read, i quickly realized jemma’s husband quinton was the real problem.
it took my girl jemma a while to realize that she had out grew quinton. he simply couldn’t handle the woman she was always meant to be. he did her so dirty and she just took it…until dr ezekiel green waltzed in and stole her heart.
every time jemma said “two wrongs don’t make a right” i’m like WHO SAID DAT?! like girl if you don’t get your lick back and dog walk quinton’s beige ass i will close this book and never return. but you know what, jemma did move on in a way that made me deeply respect her.
and zeke, baby that’s a REAL man. he was crazy about jemma the moment he laid eyes on her. he told her all she had to do was drop her location and he would show up every time. he did not lie. even when he thought jemma would break his heart, he showed up for her. their love story was so pure and had me rooting for zeke so hard.
when i say i’m stuck after gobbling up this book, i mean it. it was soooo good!
I’m embarrassed to say that I almost felt a bit sorry for Quinton, this was written sooo well…I love that Jenna had to take time to find herself and that she went through therapy too…she just forgot to communicate that to Zeke and it kept him wondering. I’m hoping that we find out about Ezra & Roni and Myron & Maxi.
There’s just no way I’m reading the same book as everyone else who has been raving about it. This was such a hard read. I kept pushing through hoping it was going to be over. I did not like the writing style due to the overused word choices and the authors obsession with a thesaurus. I wanted to like their love story but I just wasn’t sold on it. All they did was have sex the whole book. The sex scenes were okay at first but by the end I was completely over it.
This! I had an idea of what I thought this read would be about, but it was so much more! When Jemma met Quinton in college, and his sister Quaron said he was a ho; I knew it was going to be some ish! That fairytale love that they experienced in their youth, was no more. Now strangers living in the same house, perpetrating a façade to the public, as the great Holiday couple. Jemma is nearing the end of her rope, as this is not the life that she signed up for! She was fed up and something had to give and soon! Interviewing Dr. Ezekiel Green was life changing for Jemma! Zeke, was instantly attracted to Jemma, never mind her marital status! During the interview, they fell into easy conversation and their chemistry was building by the second! They both knew they were in trouble! When the bombshell dropped about Quinton, Jemma was devastated and embarrassed. But, more than anything, she felt liberated! This was her opportunity to end this marriage that neither of them wanted anymore; but that damn Quinton would not go away quietly! How do you have the nerve to cry and beg, after you fumbled sir? Get on with that! 🤬 Zeke was just everything! ❤ Although he knew that this situation with Jemma was wrong, and complicated, he knew she was his! He waited patiently on the sidelines and took whatever she was willing to share with him, no matter how it hurt him. They were connected mentally, as he fed into her mind, her soul, and lifted her from the darkness she experienced due to the hurt Quinton caused. He was everything that she needed and took the time to love her properly. I did feel bad for Zeke, as Jemma was getting herself together. She just left him to figure out what was up with them, and I could feel his despair! Hope there is more to their story soon! Loved the sisterhood between Maxine, Quaron and Jemma. They were truly ride of die friends! Will we get Maxine and Quaron’s stories as well? Really enjoyed this! 👍👍👍
I have so much to say. So many things I wanna say. But I won't. I'll just say a few things. First and foremost. Forget all other previous book baes. Ezekiel "Fine-As-Hell-BDE-Educated-Aśs" Green is my one and only. No one can change my mind. This man said (Ch.24, Pg.274) "I’d quickly transformed from Provost Green to hood niģğa Zeke from Bed-Stuy." 🤤 This clearly is my favorite read this year. Easily in my top 3. I read this book twice, back to back. I hated that the story ended. I kinda don't want this to be a series cause this book was so special. But I fell in love with every supporting character. So I'd of course would love to get other stories and updates. But please, do me and yourself a favor and READ THIS BOOK. That's it. Just read it. Read the book.
I thought the plot moved at an unusual pace, which (I think) may have been caused by the fmc constantly ghosting the mmc. This made it challenging to comprehend / truly feel a connection between the two. It started to improve significantly at the end, at about the 95% mark. I really wanted to love this book :(.
3.5/5.0 ⭐️ Considering what Jemma’s husband did to her & their family, I may or may not have been expecting a little bit more drama instead of kink/bdsm/ooey gooey sex scenes because, healing should be a top priority after what she went through. But at the end of the day love is love. We can’t put a set time on when/where/why/how it comes to us & when/where/why/how it leaves us.
Nonetheless, Jemma chose peace. But did she really do that by adding to & creating another war within herself by not speaking up & taking action on these problems/concerns before it got too out of control?🤔 20 years is a loooooonnnggg time!! That’s what continuously baffled me throughout this entire book.
I still feel like her husband deserved baby oil on the shower floor & a genuine leather belt when he got out. Silly games win silly prizes.🤷🏽♀️I feel bad even saying that because, I’m normally the calm, cool, collected, wise, barely bothered, optimistic, empath, healer, helper, & peaceful type of friend.
Moral of the story: Don’t rush to go to where the grass is greener. Sometimes the other grass is fake. Instead, try watering your own grass & tending to the weeds in your garden. Practice more discernment. Express more gratitude & appreciation. Simply focus on being in the moment & loving who/what loves you. You can’t run from yourself. You can’t hide. You have to confront what’s going on in your own home.
What a fantastic story. I LOVED HOW BLACK EXCELLENCE WAS REPRESENTED. I liked Jemma's journey of being unhappy in her marriage and gradually losing her identity. Meeting Zeke helped her rediscover herself by feeding her mind, body, and soul. I didn’t like how it took her husband's infidelity to become public before she left. But that just shows how far we've come. In the end, I liked how therapy was used to heal everyone and their problems.
Once I read “creamy, sodden folds” I physically couldn’t take it anymore. Also, the author continues to use the word “glared” REPEATEDLY when “glanced”, “stared”, or “looked” is really what the sentence called for. The wordiness of this book is it’s downfall. In no way am I believing that a 40yr old PHD holder is calling her vagina her “kitty” or her “treasure”. I had to skip over many parts due to cringing.
Somebody's Wife is a phenomenal masterpiece! If I could give it 10 stars I would! Jemma, Zeke, and Quinton took me on a tumultuous journey and I have not one complaint. If you don't do anything else, READ THIS BOOK before the year ends!
Somebody's Wife was a magnificent book! The characters, the sex, the storyline, the sex, and the subject matter were perfection. Did I mention the sex?!!! LOL!!! This was my first book from Robbi Renee and she exceeded all my expectations. I look forward to reading more from her.
I saw so much hype on this but this is one of the worst and off putting books I've read. The prose and how the author switched from first person POV to third pOV. Then the dialogue was just cringe and felt like high schoolers cosplaying as adults. I did not know this was a steamy book and I just had to gloss through that aspect.
His giant snake p*nis really for real?
This wasn't worth the story to me and the 2 stars is cause I had to force myself to finish reading it
The first encounter between Jemma and Ezekiel I had a feeling Ezekiel was going to be a problem. The chemistry between these two characters had me sweating. Yes, this is somebody's wife but Jemma and Ezekiel go together real bad. This book was sexy & messy I highly recommend.
I loved Ezekiel, he was everything!! Swag on 100, a little street edge, but hella professional, and is clear on what he wants. Added to the bookbae list expeditiously. Honestly what I liked most about him was how carefully he handled Jemma. How he allowed her to be seen and cherished her completely. Their situation was tough and this man had the patience of a saint, because all the ghosting was too much for me. Especially when he was head over heels in love with her and his actions showed those sentiments. His gestures big and small were thoughtful and sweet and reinforced how much he cared for Jemma even when that same care wasn't reciprocated.
Jemma was a beautiful boss babe. Over the years she had carefully become somebody's wife. Jemma and her husband Quinton had lost their way. Instead of putting up too much of a fight she just accepted the scraps he left her. What Q was doing was predictable to me, I called it early on. However, how Jemma responded was not what I expected at all. Life led her to Zeke and their connection seemed immediate. She knew he was going to be special. Listen, the BDE that was coming off Zeke was loud and clear. They danced around their attraction for months, but still managed to strengthen at the same time. Jemma was not prepared for the onslaught of new feelings and to me she mishandled Zeke. I low-key felt a way because after being with trifling Q all those years, I felt like she should've done a better job with his heart. With Zeke she wasn't just somebody's wife she was somebody's everything.
Let me just add that Q was trash. The audacity, the gall of this man to try to hold on to Jemma after the fact, but not when he had her. Chile please. I wouldn't have been sad if he got roughed up in an alley. Js.
Book friends excellent recommendation, I loved this book!
What a captivating, heart-tugging and suspenseful page turner this turned out to be!
I say suspenseful because I kept waiting for Jemma to kill that arrogant and super selfish husband of hers. I know women who would have slit his throat, while he was sleeping, and gladly gone to jail for it! Lol!!!
Jemma tried so hard to do the right thing but once Quinton broke their marriage vows over and over, girlfriend should have bounced! And when trifling Bethany, the "side chick", stepped to Jemma talking about being pregnant with Quinton's baby, I was done! No one deserves that kind of disrespect!
Nevertheless, I loved when Dr. Green let Quinton know he was not to be played with. Dr. Green made sure that Quinton also knew he had every intention of being the kind of man that Jemma deserves, because he knew HOW to make her happy!!!! LOL!!!!!!
I went into this thinking that I was going to be pissed at the cheating trope because I just can’t support that but I was pleasantly surprised. The characters in this book were mature and knew what they wanted and made it known. No miscommunication and open adult conversations. Jenna and Zeke were THE definition of two people that were meant for each other despite the situation(s). I loved Jemma’s growth and the time she took to love herself in the process. I felt like she was stringing him along and sending mixed signals during certain parts in the story, but it all worked out in the end and we got our HEA💕. Oh, and the spice was spicing LOL🥵🌶️
I was expecting romance and maybe a bit of a thriller, but got erotica. Basically no plot, but lots of sex. I wasn't bothered by the sex but the writing seemed cliche to me at times and that was a stumbling block. Lots of description of what characters look like, what they're wearing, and of course lots of description of the sex acts. I felt like secondary characters were not well developed, plot lines were dropped - basically this novel lived up to its erotica genre, but not anything else for me.
