This is a very handy cookbook that has numerous recipe ideas for every meal of the day designed to allow diabetics to continue to enjoy food and be able to eat with family and friends without feeling left out or missing out on their treats. It has helpful information and advice on what diabetes is and how to help manage it through lifestyle and dietary changes as well as how to prepare meals that are still satisfying, filling and enjoyable without sending blood sugars into orbit. Each recipe gives information on sugar content and glycemic load per serving, which can save much confusion and many a calculation. Overall this is a very helpful book to have and the recipes will still make you mouth water (yes there are even rather tasty looking dessert recipes).

I found this hardback recipe book at my local book thrift store. After leafing through the book at the shop I thought for $2 it would worth the purchase. The publication date of the book isn’t printed on the book. After looking up the book information online, I discovered the cookbook was published in 2007, so a lot of the recipes are dated.

Over the last 19yrs, information on diabetes & diabetes management has changed ~ in a good way. This cookbook doesn't reflect those changes/information. The low rating isn’t only due to the outdated information. Many of the recipes in this book have ingredients missing from the ingredients list, then mysteriously show up in the directions and/or the directions don’t tell you the measurements or how those ingredients are to be used.

My recommendation: If you find this cookbook at a thrift shop or yard sale, even at $1 or $2, give it a miss!

As far as cookbooks go, they did a great job of providing lots of photos, which I love. But realistically, it’s stuff I would never eat.
