So-so collection. I thought it could have used more translations of writing from Spaniards themselves; it was heavily weighted with English and American luminaries from the period instead. And it seemed a little silly to republish a chunk of Orwell's Homage to Catalonia, which takes up a lot of room in the book and is probably unnecessary because most who are familiar with any writing about the Spanish Civil War probably know Orwell's piece. Still, some other good selections.

I had read this book decades ago and never forgot that I had read it, although I had forgotten what was written in it. Recently I felt an urge to re-read it, so I bought it again. The writings for the most part are by poets and writers like Ernest Hemingway, George Orwell, Arthur Koestler, etc. The book impressed me again. Currently I am reading another collection of writings of the Spanish Civil War called No Pasaran! ("they shall not pass"). This collection was written by people who actually took part in the war and is also very good.
