You can’t escape destiny…

Piper Anesidora hates her last name, and the Reaper and demon infested life that comes with it. For centuries, her family has been tasked with protecting Pandora’s Box, and ensuring it’s never reopened. That’s why five years ago she ran away, hoping to build a normal life, one of her own choosing. And it worked. For a little while. But now her brother has been taken by Orpheus, a malicious soul who’s escaped from the Underworld, and if that isn’t bad enough, he’s also stolen the box. The sooner she finds her brother and stops Orpheus from unleashing hell on earth, the better. Piper wants nothing more than to return to the mundane existence she’s created for herself. That is until she’s partnered with the one guy capable of making her crave more. She’s always been told giving into sin is wrong, but her ancestors clearly never met Lust.

You can’t resist temptation…

Reece Luben takes intimate knowledge to a whole new level. As the Greek god of lust, he has a long-standing reputation to uphold as a playboy, despite the fact he’s grown bored with the game. It’s been centuries since he’s cared about someone other than his maenads, so he passes the time getting people to shed their inhibitions. As one of the few beings who can sense Pandora’s Box, Reece has no choice but to help Piper find and stop Orpheus, even though he’s avoided her family since the start of his second life. But the feisty Anesidora woman makes him feel things he’s long forgotten, and what starts out as one night giving into desire turns into another…and another. What happens when the god of lust decides he’s changing the game and playing for keeps?

The hardcover edition comes with an exclusive cover, as well as bonus materials not included in the ebook or paperback versions. Also please keep in mind this is an Adult Paranormal Romance with adult themes and steamy scenes. Thank you!

I stumbled upon this randomly and was sold on the beautiful cover and promise of mythological elements. It turned out to be a bit more of an insta-love-and-steam romance than that cover lead me to believe it might be, but I had a good time reading it, overall.

I did go in there ready to be disappointed if the mythological background was to be too butchered (as this is a pet peeve of mine) but I actually quite enjoyed it. I think what worked for me is that this actually builds a complete alternative mythos that reads like it could have been what was behind Greek myths as we know them, but did not pretend to be them.

The overall mystery plot line, the characters and the action were overall very enjoyable, though it all bent backward to accommodate more romance/sex/swooning at times - this is really the only thing that weakened the overall story imo. As for the romance itself, apart from the fact that it suffered from being too instantaneous for my personal taste, it was well done. I appreciated that obstacles to the characters' relationship made sense and were resolved timely, like one would expect from two adults (one being straight up ancient) beings. There were times were I felt Piper was a bit too dramatic, in general in regards to her past and family, but by the end we got a nice wrap up to all that.

One last thing: the author must love the TV series Lucifer, because my god was there some relatively shameless rip off in there. Reese borrows a lot of traits from that TV character, he owns a bar/club, that happens to be called Luxuria and be run by a demon? I mean come on. I see how it makes sense for Reese, but that's still a bit on the nose!

This book was given to me by the author for an honest review.
This book was amazing! I was completely enthralled. I love the use of a lesser known Greek God and the mythology within it. It was steamy but badass. The imagery was fantastic! I could totally picture everything that was going on and where everything was taking place. I loved the action with the mix of romance and power. Piper seems like someone I would get along with great and I completely understood how she was feeling the whole book. It was a great book! Highly recommend.

This was a sexy, wild ride steeped in Greek mythology, and I LOVED it! I loved all of Reece and Piper's interactions, and Reece's rare moments of insecurity that showed his heart in his hands. I loved that he wanted Piper just as much, if not more, than she wanted him, and that the author portrayed that as well instead of only focusing on Piper's feelings. Agh I just can't with how much I loved the story! The only person I was not a fan of was Rover. Ugh. I wanted Piper to drop her feelings for him like a hot potato. I can't wait to read more of the author's work!

I'm a big fan of the author's Underworld YA series, so I was excited to check out another side of that world. And just... wow.

Reece has definitely made the list of book boyfriends. That would have been enough for me to enjoy this book, but Piper was amazeballs. She's my soultwin. She's so strong, independent and has a wicked sense of humor. Can you ask for anything more in a heroine? I would love to see this turn into a series--I need more!

The book starts off with a fight scene. A really good fight scene. I liked Piper a lot. She was an awesome kickass heroine. None of that annoying, seemingly unstoppable, internal debate that I think plagues characters in other books. She was to the point and quick to action. Reece was amusing and easily amused. I liked the two of them together. It made for a very fast and good read. I hope there will be more to come.

First of all, I want to thank the author for kindly providing me with a copy of her book for my honest review.

Bad Things Play Here is a delicious book about all things mythological. We have our reluctant descendant of Pandora whose family is tasked to guard the box that contains seven deadly sins. Piper started a new life after leaving her purpose-orientated family behind. She strives to live normally, when the past hits her on the butt. Deadly forces are threatening to her family and her legacy. She is to partner up with none other than the god of lust, Reece, to stopped the malicious spirits of reaching her goals. Oh, did I mention that Reece is a hot, sarcastic fella who oozes the sex from every pores??

My friends, I flew though this book in one night. And let me tell you it was not the greatest idea to read it at night haha, because it was freaking hot. The author created such a fast-paced and sexy story with all the right amount of hotness, mystery, twists and legit mythological creatures. I love Greek Mythology and seeing how the author gave a new twist to the myth and gods, was freaking awesome.

Characters:
I adored our main heroine, Piper. She was a badass yet vulnerable and so human. She was thriving to be normal and had a beautiful way of putting others before her needs. Though you might think the way she abandoned her family was kind of selfish, you have to read till the end to see why she did that. I 100% rooted for her and wanted her to be happy. Her character development was great where she bloomed from a rose bud to a full flourished garden. Her special abilities were fascinating for me as she basically could feel sins off of people.

Reece was one of the most delicious book boys I have ever read about. He was so perfect and so swoon-worthy. I mean, come on, he is the god of lust and a pansexual bundle of joy. It couldn't get any better than that. He was a free-spirited, wild and passionate hero to complement our heroine. And it was very refreshing to get know a character who was not cowering over his sexual desires and is openly attuned to his sexual needs. The way he developed was so delicious. Reece was the kind of character to grow on you and make his way right into your heart. Definitely, a book-boyfriend material!!!

We have a set of jerk characters that I don't want to talk about because ugh!!

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this hotness and was really happy with how the things turned out. I loved the fact that the author did her research and used Greek mythology in a beautiful way not leaving any loose ends. I think it is hard to accomplish in just one book but our lovely author did it anyway. If you guys are looking for something delicious and hot with tons of steamy love-making scenes, peppered with awesome plot and lovable characters, give this bad boy a try, you won't regret it.

Personal Review:
An ok paranormal romance between a God and a mortal protecting the Pandora’s box.

Random Ramblings
•I don’t know how I feel about her being in ‘puppy love’ with someone else and why was there no mention of him in the blurb?
•So many random names to remember! I had to pause and do google searches on names (‘maenads’ for example)
•Dermal piercings….

•My God…please get over him! You just keeping across as immature…wanting scraps of his attention and its grating on me
•I applaud her for getting away from her family
•Great intro scene with Daisy
• It’s probably just me, but I think she over-reacted when the surprise was revealed
•The age differences in paranormal romances are starting to become a pet peeve for me – I am fine with heroes being decades/centuries old but then why can’t the heroines AT LEAST be in their late twenties/early thirties?? Give them a chance to develop and mature because I know for sure, if I was a centuries old superhuman then I would consider humans in their early twenties to be immature, childish babies – I would never be able to take them seriously

•I was, however, pleasantly surprised that the H didn’t come across so much as a douche considering the thousands of women (and men) he must have slept with as the God of Lust

Overall Feeling:

I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

As a fan of paranormal romance, Greek mythology, and Chani Lynn Feener's Underworld YA Series, I dove straight into Bad Things Play Here and loved it every minute of it.

Piper Anesidora is running from her past, from her family, even her own name. All she wants is a new, normal life.

Until she meets Reese Luben. He's the God of Lust, but he's grown bored with his life of meaningless seduction. When a malicious spirit steals Pandora's Box, Piper and Reece must join forces to prevent the end of the world.

Bad Things Play Here is an epic adventure, a journey of self-discovery and a hot, sizzling romance all rolled into one.

Piper is all you could ask for in a heroine - She's strong, powerful and badass.

Reese is the perfect hero- he's sexy and immortal, with a soft, sweet centre and the most incredible eyes! *swoon*

Chani Lynn Feener makes these characters leap from the page. They're funny, relatable and on a journey that grips you every step of the way. I literally couldn't put this down and fell in love with Piper and Reese immediately.

“When he kissed her, forever didn’t seem nearly long enough.”

The tension between the two characters builds deliciously until they explode off the page in hot sticky love scenes that kept me wanting more, mixed with fight scenes that sent my heart racing.

I highly recommend BTPH to anyone looking for a feisty, badass heroine, a strong, sexy God, heaps of sexual chemistry and a gripping paranormal story.

“Do I want you princess? More than anything I have ever wanted in either of my lifetimes. More than anything I will surely ever want again.”

P.S. As a bonus for everyone who loves the Underworld Series we also get to see more of Hadrian! YAY!

I love any stories that have to do with mythology, whether that be Egyptian, Norse or Greek. What I love even more is an author that can add one or two new twists to the myths. I'm a fan of this author's previous Underworld novels so I was immediately inclined to pick this up. What I didn't expect was for her to excel even further in her world building and bringing more to the table in regards to the origin stories of the gods. Maybe my own experience is just dismal, but most of the books I've read really don't go into deep detailed accounts on Gods' backstories; Gods are usually dark and mysterious beings that we mere mortal readers cannot hope to reach. NOPE. Not in this. We get to see a lot of Dionysus (Reece, as he's called in the book) that we never dreamed possible, and I'm not just talking about the incredibly addictive and sexy interactions we see between our determined heroine Piper and the God of Lust; we actually get a feel of someone who's having a realistic reaction to possibly having a meaningful connection. He's not just some blank slate with a strong, dominating presence (Though we do get a bit of that too :D). I absolutely loved the addition of the Maenads to this universe alongside Hadrian's Reapers. I don't want to go into spoilers here, but I will say I also love how the author interweaves the mythos of the Deadly Sins with the Greek one. It's honestly brilliant. I had such an incredibly hard time putting this down and let me tell you, it will definitely remain in your thoughts after an initial read through and be quite distracting when you're stuck at your desk at work. Definitely worth grabbing!!

I had no idea what I expected when I started to read "Bad Things Play Here' but man was I surprised. Bad Things Play Here is a very well written book by Chani Lynn Feener and I admit I had an extremely difficult time putting this book down. It is full of action and has a lot of twists that I didn't see coming. They were well develop and placed within the book. This book is unlike anything I have read and put a new twist on some of the mythology stories I read growing up. I always love it when an author can bring something new to the table and this one sure did!

The pace of the book was just perfect and moved beautifully through the story. There were some hot and steamy scenes thrown in so be ready for those as well. This book has it all, unique plot, romance and action with lots of paranormal.

Piper is not your typical heroine and extremely likable! She takes everything that is thrown at her and somehow manages to handle it somehow. Reece is not your typical hero and somehow complements Piper. These two struggle with their attraction for each other while trying to figure out how to find Pandora's Box.

I enjoyed this book tremendously and will keep an eye out for more books from this author. the writing style was pleasant and I can't wait to see what this author has in store in the future.

I have received this book from the author for an honest review. (LoP, Lovers of Paranormal)

I’ve always been a fan of Greek mythology, so when I found out that Bad Things Play Here had Greek mythological elements and even characters, I was quite intrigued.

Piper Anesidora comes from a family who’s sole purpose in life is to guard Pandora’s box. Unfortunately, this is not something Piper wants for her life and she leaves her family and responsibilities to blend in with the real world. When Pandora’s box becomes endangered, Piper is thrown back into the world she not so long ago detached herself from and is forced to reconnect with those who she left behind.

Reece, also known as Dionysus, is the god of lust. I’ve always pictured him as that fat Caesar looking god with the grapes around his head, also known as Bacchus. So I was pretty taken aback when he is described as something no less than sizzling hot. I mean, he is the god of lust after all. ;)

Piper and Reece are thrown together and must team up to save Pandora’s box and avoid chaos by preventing it from being opened. While on their mission, they make several discoveries about themselves and fight feelings and desires that are dying to be released.

While the premise of the story is quite interesting, I was unable to keep my interest for very long. I felt completely disconnected from the characters and honestly annoyed at certain points. I had a hard time liking Piper, her reactions and decisions. Reece had his moments, but I honestly felt a lack of chemistry between these two, or maybe it was just because I didn’t really care for Piper.

It really bums me out when I can’t connect with a character, because that’s one of my favorite parts of diving into a story, getting to know and love the characters. This in turn clouds my better judgement for the storyline.

That being said, I did enjoy the imagery. There were several elements of Greek mythology that were thrown into our modern day times and I always love when authors can merge two or more different worlds and make it work. The action and paranormal aspects of the story were also well done, it is fast paced and keeps you on your toes.

The way this story is set up, it was more Piper and Reece’s story - the romance between them - as opposed to the saving of Pandora’s box. Since the characters didn’t do much for me, the romance aspect fell flat and in turn left me wanting more, thus not allowing me to rate this book higher.

*A huge thanks to the author for providing me with a digital copy of this book to read and review.*

I started this book with fairly high hopes after reading the premise and I can safely say that it exceeded my expectations. This book was a breath of fresh air after currently being in a book slump. Piper is a strong heroine who never got annoying and always pushed through the situations thrown at her. Our male lead Reece was also a great hero who let the heroine grow and handle things on her own without trying to prevent her from doing anything for herself but also being there to help when needed. They really complimented eachother so well and both helped the other. This book had action and Greek mythology thrown in which was interesting to read because the author puts her own twist to the well known story of Pandora's box. I'm always a sucker for a good mythology book that incorporates action and romance into it as well. I look forward to reading more from this author and hopefully maybe some more about the secondary characters we are introduced to in this book!
If you're looking for a good paranormal romance as well as some Greek mythology thrown in, you should definitely give this book a try.

Bad things play here is urban fantasy with a touch of Greek mythology. It follows Piper and Reece's POV.
Both MCs were likeable.
Piper was strong and badass heroin. She was relatable which made it easy for me to connect.
Reece was a God of Lust. He's amusing, hot and swoon-worthy hero!
When both of them team up on saving Pandora's box they develop feelings for each other. Their connection was instant and romance was spicy.
There's lot of action which kept me hooked throughout.
Only issues I had was, there's too much sex in this. It was bit cringy.
I liked Piper but when few revelations were made I felt like she overreacted.
Also I didn't like the pacing of the book.
The ending was good and action packed.
So all and all it was a good read and I enjoyed it!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Thank you for the ARC!

This book had everything I enjoy: Mythology, a delicious book boyfriend, and a kickass (unsure) main character. Piper is so relatable and very likeable, and all while being otherworldly. My feelings about her may have swayed at one point, but stood firm when completing the book.

Where can I find myself a Reece? Thank you in advance for all inquiring on my behalf.

The action and romance mix in this, tied along with the Greek Mythology, had me finishing this quickly.

I want to read the sequel ASAP!

I absolutely loved this book and give it a solid four star rating.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It's no secret that I love paranormal romance, it's like contemporary romances but with lots of complications and action!❤️ This one was no exception. It had an amazing relationship (and no love triangles!) and I adored Reece! Where can I get one?😍

When I first started the book, I thought Rover was going to be our love interest. But then we meet the wonderful Reece and I don't know about y'all, but I fell head over heels for him!😍 And unlike most "bad guys" in books, he didn't treat Piper like crap and was "secretly in love with her." Nope, he genuinely cared for her! And unlike Rover, who never treated Piper like he should have, he loved her and done everything he could to care and protect her.

So its been five years since she ran away from her family and Rover, the guard for her family's line, doesn't go looking for her? Why? I have no clue. I'm sure he came up with an excuse in the book, but I probably just glanced over his dialogue parts.😂 So he didn't look for her, and she turned out the heir! And he also claimed he didn't care for her in that way, but the way he did and said some things made me think otherwise. But overall, I can't stand Rover. Like at all. Maybe if he had turned himself around and became a better person.. But yep. That didn't happen.😆

I also loved Piper's character and her loads of sass! I love me some sassy characters with some good comebacks! It just makes a book that much better. You can have the best paranormal romance with not much humor and it good; you can also have a witty book with no action/plot. But when you combine them? Magic happens!😍 And this book is magic! From the first page to the last!

One of my favorite scenes from the book has to be when they went to bar to get information and the woman hits of Reece and Piper takes control of the situation.😂👏🏻 She's like "Nice to meet you. I'm Alexa and this is my boyfriend Dick." Like y'all I couldn't even!😂 I just died at that point and had to wipe the tears away!👏🏻

Reece really reminded me of Rhysand from the A Court of Thorns and Roses series-- but in different ways! He actually lets Piper do things herself instead of holding her int his protective bubble and not letting her do anything that might harm her. And I love that! While Rover doesn't care about her feeling and just "protects" and doesn't look for her best interests.

Overall I loved this book so much and I hope the author revisits this world with these characters in the future!❤️

Ready for some modern and sexy retelling of Greek myths?

Piper, the new Pandora

Honestly, everything touching Greek mythology in this book was really good: the Pandora myth, with Piper as a descendant of the poor unlucky woman who opened a box she shouldn't have. And now Piper's family had to keep it safe for thousands of years. Piper was trained to protect it, and she is a skilled fighter. She is even better than that, she can channel sins! This, plus her headstrong character, made her an awesome lead to follow. I also loved the modern version of the Gods, as well as how Orpheus is the villain here. Yes, mythological characters in the 21st century... it's pretty dangerous, and attracting! My favorite part of the story definitely ;)

Action, action, action....

Another thing with this novel: you won't get bored. You start with a fight scene, an intense one, and you almost end with one too. In between, other fights, discoveries and a lot of sex. All kind of action hehe. We discover with Piper all that was hidden from here, and what she can really do with her powers, and her destiny. We follow her hunt for Orpheus, with as an ally no one else than the god of lust, Dyonisus (or Reece in our time). Add to that the god of Death, Maenads, and Reapers and you get yourself a hell of a party!

And Sex!

Ok, I knew there would be sex, and I knew it would be paranormal sex. But WHY does the penis always have to be "so big", why is the guy in erection 24/7? Ok, he is a god but still. Sometimes, it's too much. And here, it was too much. For me at least. I wanted more, I was expecting more too. Not cliché sex scenes but great ones, as the characters were awesome already.

In a few words

The mythological part was great, the characters were rocking it but the sex scenes were too cliche for me.  A nice guilty read nonetheless!

This is the first Chani Feener book I’ve read. It was a decent book but I wouldn’t rave about it. I loved the concept that the God of Lust was characterised as Reece as it gave him more of a humanistic persona which made him more relatable and made his relationship with Piper more believable. The dual narrative was great but I wished there was another layer, perhaps with the view from Rover, which I think would have made things much more interesting. The beginning of the book was slow and at times I had persuade myself to carry on reading but it was worth it as, once the speed picked up, the latter part of the book was much better, particularly the culminate fight scene, which I wished was longer as it was the best part of the book.

There is so much to love about this story! Not only is Piper badass, but Reece knows it and respects it. Despite Reece being an alpha male, he does not lock her away like a porcelain doll, or try to be overprotective. It is clear he will never take her freedom away, even though he does have the power to.

I was a little worried about the two of them at first. After all, Reece is a god, with the power to practically enslave someone, and Piper a human, and a fairly sheltered human at that. Growing up with unloving parents, Piper has no experience with real human connection.

But Reece is always careful with her. He is always checking to make sure that she wants their relationship as much as he does. Even when he was half crazed with grief, he gave her a choice. And that made them so wonderful together! Their mutual devotion to each other was adorable and it always made me want to read more. This book had none of my usual problems with alpha males which made it so wonderful to read.

I really wish I could give this story 4.5 stars. The few problems I have with this book are so nitpicky but a five star rating still feels dishonest. My biggest problem is how Hades supposedly set Orpheus up to fail to be kind to Eurydice. But no one knew it was an abusive relationship until only 200 years ago. At first I thought only Reece didn't know, but Hades knew. However, if that was the case, then why did he give Orpheus Elysium? That part did not make sense.

Another thing was Reece's reluctance to talk to Eros. If there is anyone who could help him with Piper, it would be the god of love who married a mortal. But Reece just continues being tormented by the thought of Piper growing old and dying while he remained ageless when he could have talked to Eros about it. Eros's wife, Psyche, is never even mentioned, even though I think that's highly relevant to Reece's situation. Okay, now here's my most nitpicky thing: whenever Eros is mentioned in the book, it's always followed up with "the god of love". Yeah, I know. Mentioning it the first time makes sense. Not everyone goes gaga over Greek mythology like I do and Eros isn't exactly Zeus. But why add it again the second and third time? It got a little annoying. But I told you that was nitpicky.

Seriously, this is a great story! I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Allow yourself to be entangled in a world of Sin and the gods of old. Bad Things Play Here takes place in a realm where the descendants of Pandora guard the Box from unleashing sin, when its stolen to do just that. Spurned by Hadrian and fueled by hate, Orpheus has a plan to bring back his love, Euridice, from her eternal fate, even I it means unleashing hell to do it. In fact, vengeance is just a bonus. After having both the box and her brother go missing, Piper Anesidora has found herself thrust into the world she ran away from to fight back the evil that would tear apart the world as she knows it. Fighting with her is her over protective Reaper Rover and the God of Lust Reece, who is one of the few who can sense the box. After centuries as a playboy he cant help but toy with Piper, but what happens when lust can be turned against you? Chani Lynn Feener writes a tale of lust, wrath, war and love, but what will happen when sin is released?

Overall, the story was good, thrusting you right into the thick of the action from the first chapter. It had mystery, plot twists and steamy romance. As much as I love a good sex scene, I feel the author got a little distracted by the romance when more details of the main plot could have been flushed out. I feel there was many pieces of small information thrown in to move the plot, but I was still left with pieces without a home and holes that needed to be filled to complete the puzzle. More backstory would have been helpful as there was much that was left for the reader to fill in the blank on their own in order for the story to make sense, and the two lovers got thrust together quickly without much of a buildup. The book overall was unique, and the story something I haven’t seen overly done, but I feel there were pieces missing.

First of all, this cover is gorgeous. 100% the reason I clicked to find out more. Then, Ms. Feener promised me steamy Greek mythology-inspired romance, and I clicked download immediately. Credit where credit is due, those scenes were indeed steamy. I’m by no means a connoisseur of the genre, but I thought they were well done. I fully bought the characters’ sexual chemistry. Do I wish the locations had been a little more adventurous? Perhaps. But there is a whole sequel and many millenia for them to experiment. That being said, the romantic attraction was a bit instantaneous for my taste, especially given the characters’ established proclivity for avoiding commitment, but you can’t have it all.

I also felt that the plot had some good bones! The concept of channeling sins was very interesting, and I love the conflict inherent in being born into a destiny. I especially sympathized with the pressure put on Piper to procreate and carry on her family’s legacy, else the world will literally be overrun by sin.

However, I did feel that the plotting and pacing of the book were a bit imperfect. It seemed like this was the second book in a series, rather than the first, in the sense that we pick up in the middle of a story with Piper already on the run from her destiny. I think starting in media res can be a good way to avoid heavy exposition, but in this case, I think the book really could have benefited from some flashbacks. I would have liked the author to (dare I say it?) show me rather than tell me about Piper’s history before meeting Reece. Give me examples of her parents treating her differently than her brother. Show me the moments that caused her to develop feelings for Rover. Et cetera.

I don’t see myself continuing on with this series, but I think if readers are okay with world-building and action taking a backseat to smut and have a fondness for mythology, this could be a hit for them.

I picked this book simply because I loved the cover. I am so impressed. Piper worked so hard to get away from her family heritage and create a life for herself away from what came with having her family name. Then she was brought back into that life because her brother was missing and she was looking for him. Reece is a GOD literally, I love him so much. Even though he was the god of lust, he couldn't keep his hands to himself around her and I love how his eyes would glow based on his emotions. He was truly and alpha male and I was so there for it. At first, I really thought Rover was going to be the love interest for Piper and thought he sounded pretty handsome and stuff. Then he spoke and acted the way he did and I added him to my list alongside Taryn and Tamlin. IYKYK. Anyways, The whole plot was intriguing especially since I didn't actually read the synopsis beforehand and I actually read two books from another author about the Elysian Gods. I love these takes on the Gods and their interactions with the world today. I really enjoyed some of the side characters and although not all of them lived to the end, I enjoyed their parts within the story. I am really happy this book didn't end in a cliffhanger and I enjoyed how it did end. I will probably read the second book when it is released base don how much I enjoyed this one.

Overall, this is a fun quick read if you want some spice and a modern story with Greek mythology at it's roots. I enjoyed reading it.

3.5 out of 5 Stars.

What Works: I liked how many mythology characters were worked in and I liked the modern setting. The smut scenes were good. Character banter was decent, I would have preferred more of it though. The plot kept moving and it flowed well overall without huge stops which made it easy to keep turning pages. By the end, I did feel like we got a good idea of who Piper is because the characters were not afraid to share their feelings, which is nice to see.

Parts That Could Be Improved: It is a bit hard to read about a character named Rover and take them seriously. The instalust moved pretty fast. I don't mind fast attraction, but I think the relationship should have been a bit more developed. And on top of the instalust, this was way to short of a book to be having the "kids" conversation. Ya'll just met, maybe save the kids convo for book 2 (or to be honest, preferably never as I don't personally enjoy kids in books though to each their own on that). This is a pretty short read, but I think adding in more fleshed out dialogue and lengthening the book could have saved us from the info dumps near the end. I actually think the plot was enough to easily be a duology if the scenes were more intricate.

I received an ARC of this book for my honest review.

The parts of the book that touched up on the Greek mythology were quite good. This book is great even if you aren't entirely enthusiastic about greek mythology because the book lets you know what you need during the plot. It's also set in the 21st century so there isn't any need for historical context or prior knowledge about much. However, there is a lot of names to remember and this makes it hard to keep the flow of the book if you forget it.

THERE IS A LOT OF SEX. I know that it has sex from the blurb but I definetely didn't expect so much scenes of sex and in my personal opinion it was a bit cringy and cliché. I really don't mind sex scenes in books, if written well, otherwise it isn't worth it. Considering the blurb literaly mentions for one of the characters to be the god of lust, I expected it to be a bit more better written so there was a lot of missed opportunity. Unfortunately I ended up skipping much of it or skimming through. This was a bit of a let down because if it was written well I feel like this book would've been even better.

The main focus of the book is the romance, though I couldn't connect with the characters much so the it fell a bit flat.

The acton scenes were great and overall the book is a great casual read.

"You're living your life Piper. And life comes with mistakes. That's just the way it is."

If you're looking for an adult paranormal romance with Greek mythology element, then I suggest you check this one out!

The storyline is intriguing which center about pandora's box and the family who is tasked to protect it.
The world building is unique especially seeing how the Greek gods live in our modern world.

This story is told in dual POV, Reece and Piper with lots of action and spicy scenes as well.
The pacing can be slow sometimes but it can also pick up quickly that it didn't lead me to the point of boredom or losing interest in this book.

I like the main and secondary characters in here, Piper is a badass female character and Reece is a very caring person towards Piper, he supported her and accept her for who she is.
However, I wish there's more background story about Reece and Piper's past to better understand and connect with them.

Overall, this is a refreshing read with a simple and intriguing storyline.
I adore the world building and the ending was wrapped up nicely.
I'll keep an eye out for the next book in this series!

Actual rating: 3.5⭐

Reese, aka Dionysius, the god of insanity and partying
Reaper, aka one of Hades minions
Piper, the Anesidora who shirked her duties to live as a human and was brought back.
Orpheus, the villain, the bard who lost his wife

I love romantic fantasies doing modern takes on ancient gods. After years of ignoring her heritage, Piper discovers her brother has stolen the one item her family is supposed to protect: Pandora’s box. Piper decides to tag along with her guardian Reaper to find her brother and rescue the artifact. Reaper is not amused, so Hades asks Reese to babysit her.

Piper is not a damsel-in-distress. She takes control of the investigation and fights her way through Reese’s (Dionysius) maenads and then against Orpheus. But this story ultimately is not an action fantasy; it is a love story about two lonely souls who find each other from vastly different worlds.
“When she attempted to pull away, he clung.”
There is a bit more mooning over each other than I prefer.

The Romance:
Reese takes control in the bedroom and is very aggressive. Since he is the god of Lust, there is a lot of wink-wink action. Steam 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️+. No child should be exposed to this.
