This had some interesting information but the language was strange as was the formatting. Instead of section or paragraph breaks it had parenthesized "sidenotes" that titled the next few sentences until the next side note. A smaller issue I had was when converting the value of Roman money it used pre decimal British pound values to show the modern value, something that an American like myself has no idea how to interpret. I doubt many younger Brits would be able to either. I got the sense that even though it was divided into chapters that it was actually a series of lectures compiled into book form. It was a chore to read but short and I powered through it because next I am doing a deep dive into all four main subjects, a book on the Gracchi brothers, a book on Marius, and a book on Sulla. I just wanted the brief overview before the deep dive.

Disapointed. Very poor language and short in the sence of personal details of main charachters, which are widly known. Not learned anything new and very dull to read. On the other hand u read this kind of peace just in case u discover somthing new. As for me i did nt discover anything new, but maybe someone will..

A nice, concise history of the period in question. It's a little dry, but short and very readable in comparison to a lot of others. It does not dwell endlessly on the boring minutiae of every minor battle and every law. It gives you what you need to know.
