Building upon the last volume, we see the relationship progression form a triangle: Takeuchi, Yano, and Nana. Nana has feelings for Yano, but she doesn't seem--when we get to the bottom of it--to be unable to love Takeuchi; the two men love Nana.
We see in this volume a desire to question what is fair in love--not necessarily what is moral, but what is 'fair' or righteous. Takeuchi's sister, for instance, discusses with her brother this very topic, suggesting that 'all is fair in love and war', and that he should find--within himself--a justification for stealing Nana from Yano. (This all occurs after the two re-unite.) Takeuchi, always mellow, doesn't know how to square this idea with himself: he wants Nana happy, wants to promote this happiness, and cannot justify within himself attempting to seduce her; he cannot think it is just.
On the other hand, Yano is completely capable of doing all these things. The so-called noble sentiments of Takeuchi and his sister are nowhere to be found in him: he is a person who wants Nana, whose desire for her is such that the death of his friend is good, that the coercion and kidnapping of him is good, if only he can have Nana. Yano's feelings, throughout the series, are turbulent. His issues about his father, his mother, his dead girlfriend--primarily, his issues of abandonment and trust surrounding women--are precisely the thing which clogs his mind. Is it not strange that he would allow Nana freedom from him, desire her consent, if he is willing to manipulate the scene--even to kidnap and lock his friend up--to be able to seduce her? His actions seem contradictions--his good, his bad--they mesh together to form his personality, such that what is 'noble' about him is hidden, elided, or doesn't exist at all.
The articulation of Yano's trauma--from his mother, from his lovers--indicates a profound distrust of people around him. What he wants, more-or-less, is a love he can accept. He is able to grasp at this love, because he is unable to cope with his abandonment issues; he cannot confront what troubles him, causing him to fly from any dangerous thoughts, from any dangerous ideas, even if they harm his relationships. He is unmanageable precisely because some things become massive issues unnecessarily, because what he wants from others inflates in his mind--precisely because he has no trust in others--and that expansion threatens to burst or to shut down all ability to interact with him. One is interested in knowing just how we come to some conclusion here.
This series is definitely getting better as it goes on. They are all in 11th grade, second year of high school now. We slowly learn more about how much Nana-San meant to Yano and how much he means to Nanami and how much she means to him. I still find it weird that they are calling each other Yano and Takahashi still, after the 6 months or so they dated, but that's just me. This is still halfway a soap opera, but it is pretty heart felt for all that. I do like how mature the characters act in this, compared to other high school mangas I have read. Overall, if you like Shojo manga, or Shojo Beat, give it a try.
When Nanami held Yano and told him all those sweet words about Nana… YES! That’s what he needs! He’s been blaming himself and has been filled with regrets this whole time. He just needed someone to hug him and tell him that he didn’t do anything wrong. It will be okay.
And as for the Takeuchi situation, while I do like his character, I love Yano. I feel like Take is a great friend to Nanami but I don’t feel any romantic chemistry? I feel like they would be awkward?
Seeing Nanami struggle with her confidence here was so relatable. She felt like her trust was ruined, she felt self conscious, and that's what really makes someone run from their highschool relationship. I was tearing up when I read their make-up scenes, Yano was so precious as he tried so hard to open up to her. It was really heartwarming 💕
I'm really interested to see where this story goes. I'm coming up to the end of high school in volume 8, which takes place after highschool. I'm still rooting for Takeuchi, but it's interesting to learn more about Yano. I read in the back that the mangaka, Yuki Obata, tries to match the season in the manga with its season of publication, which makes the characters age quickly. It's really fun to experience them aging and changing!
I don't have much to say about this volume because I was reading it way too fast. At this point though, I can't wait to finish the series. I'm getting a bit tired of it... I am waiting for the time skip though! I need the angsty stuff to come back.
Ugggghhhhhh. I'm starting to hate Yano. I just want her to get together with the non-shitty guy and that's what's pushing me to keep reading at this point.
This was one of the best installments in this series. I really enjoyed the story, it is going somewhere I swear. The characters were great, I like them a lot actually.
Yano's long time best friend, Takeuchi, has fallen in love with Nanami and now that her and Yano have broken up, Take can no longer hold back. Yano and Takeuchi race against each other and through the crowd to find Nanami, both to confess their own feelings to her.
In the end, Take decides to say nothing and allow himself to play a part in the destiny that helps support Nanami and Yano as a couple... for now.
After meeting with Yano, Nanami decides that unless he can admit his lingering feelings for Nana-san, Nanami will continue to refuse to get back together with him. Will Yano be able to break down the wall that he has built up these past two years, all for the sake of his new love? Or will he continue to run away from his feelings forever?
Ecco. Take è più nobile di me, però.
Tapi begitu sampai di volume 2 dan seterusnya..... uwaaah....keren! dalam artian apalagi di bagian yang menyinggung tentang kematian pacar Yano dan kelanjutan hubungan Yano dengan Nanami. not a happy ending, though, but not all ending must be happy. Right?
Can't wait to read the next volume. I wonder what Nana would have said if Take had been honest about his feelings for her. I believe that she does love, Yano, but somehow I wonder if their relationship will really be okay. something tells me there are still obstacles up ahead.
I know I read this book a long time ago, but I love it anyway. Everything about it so.. I just can't find the words, I've yet to find a manga as amazing as this one, and I probably won't ever will.
To think Takeuchi will fall in love with her . I thought they p'd make a good couple and all . He is a good man . And that is rare. The dog is so cute .
