Just found out this hasn’t gotten any new content since 2022. My friend recommended it after the pain MXTX has put me through and I think I’m going to commit a crime because she was also the one who told me to read MXTX’s works 💔

Anyways, this was such a cute and fun read, yeah it’s an overdone troupe/genre but I don’t care, it was cute and I binged it all so I couldn’t have asked for it to be any better.

The interaction with Asahi and the prisoners was much needed. That slap too... *chef's kiss*

I'm inclined to give five stars just for the satisfying ending, but I don't think that's entirely fair. After all, the part with the "retail therapy" is a bit dull, and I'm not really sure what purpose it serves except to show the deepening relationship between Ruri and Euclase.

I also forgot to review the prior books, but oh well. Wanted to note this once having been read today, at least!

As a temporary recap (I might edit this down once I get around to reviewing the other books), Ruri and her "friend"/hanger-on Asahi are not-really friends: Asahi clings to Ruri, but Ruri's life is made miserable from the same, for an unknown reason that is later revealed to be a "charm" spell on Asahi. Both girls are summoned to another world, as it happens, and through a number of efforts, Ruri manages to get away from Asahi and finally have a nice life...

...until Asahi finds out Ruri's new kingdom (Draconians) "kidnapped" Ruri, so Asahi goes along her kingdom's (Humans) declaration of war to attack the Draconians and "save" Ruri.

Naturally, the Draconians know nothing about Ruri's "kidnapping" (and barely even know Asahi means Ruri the cat, which is Ruri's disguise), but Ruri finally manages to confront Asahi after the charm spell is disabled and chews her out for being such an airhead. (The slapping is a little uncalled for but, drastic measures for sufficiently dense people, I guess? Only language that can't be misunderstood... I hope?)

So, finally, some of the people under Asahi's spell come to their senses and apologise to Ruri, which she accepts even as she doesn't forgive them, but at least the major players are all alive and healthy, with Asahi and her ex-hangers-on sent away to a rehabilitation farm.

It would almost be a satisfying ending to the series, but there are still too many loose ends to wrap up, in particular Ruri not revealing to the Dragon King that she's the cat that he loves so much.

Recommended for fans of the first books; too much going on for newcomers, and also it's not as satisfying reading this volume without having read the setup. It does remind me of the relationship between Momo and Sae in Peach Girl, though Sae is malicious about it, whereas Asahi is curiously oblivious.

The war between Dracodom and Nadasha arrives! This is probably what gives this installment a bit of a darker, slightly more serious note to it. It's still lighthearted for the most part, especially with poor Finn trying to rein in the dragon soldiers is freaking hilarious, and it doesn't drag out at all - but it also doesn't ignore the fact that, for all this manga's more comedic take on it, war is still something that causes people to die and the survivors to suffer, as Asahi finds out. Sadly there was very little of Jade in this one and while I technically liked the bonding scenes between Ruri and Euclasse, it wasn't something I thought of as necessary. But I really love the confrontation between Ruri and Asahi; it was suuuuper satisfying, even if part of me wishes Ruri had been a bit more mean!

This volume focuses much more on the war & dealing withc (maybe wrapping up?) the Asahi story. I really like Ruri as a protagonist, she stands up for herself, wants to connect with people and help them, but also listens to her feelings (& is a little petty & is generally very silly). Hopefully book 5 will come quickly & perhaps we'll get another swing at a meet cute!

7/23 Not as good as the first books - barely any Ruri/Jade interaction, and Asahi's obliviousness really gets on my nerves, I hope we never see her again. Still, had its cute and magical moments (loving the new Kotarou!) and I'm looking forward to where the story will go next.

I don't have the coherence to express just how gloriously happy I am for the release of this volume, and that I've finally got it in my hands after 2 years of waiting. TWO YEARS!

Goodness, this war storyline wrapped itself up in record time! Perhaps the long wait for the 4th volume altered my memory, but it didn't feel like this volume had as much story happening as previous ones. There were barely any interactions between Jade and Ruri (which I hope to see remedied next time), so maybe that had something to do with it.

Asahi is one of THE most frustrating characters I've ever seen in any medium, and Ruri finally having the opportunity to express her emotions was cathartic.

This entire series has been such a pleasure to read so far, and I can't wait to see what happens when Ruri finally reveals her true form to King Jade!

Asahi is leading the humans to war against the Draconians, all under the banner of saving a kidnapped Ruri. The fight is over before it begins thanks to the overwhelming strength of the Draconian fighters. Ruri still hasn’t confessed her true identity to the king, so Asahi’s repetitive accusation of kidnapping a human named Ruri bewilders most of the dragon court. After a botched attempt to escape the castle, Asahi starts to see what the world is like without her magic charming everyone, but she still doesn’t understand why people aren’t falling over themselves to help her. Ruri finally gets a moment of sweet closure by lecturing Asahi about her gullibility, but it may take several years of hard labor on Draconia’s prolific farm to sort everything out.

This series is still adorable, but this volume gets a little heavier as Ruri confronts her former school mates who were captured with Asahi but are now no longer enthralled by her. The overfairies are also adorable, having both found bodies that are cute and fluffy like Ruri likes. The author's note at the end lets us know that we were waiting so long for this volume (it's been almost two years!) specifically because the illustrations for the war sequence took so long, so hopefully we don't have more delays like that! We still didn't get to the moment of the king finding out about Ruri, so that tension is growing, and this volume added a bit of hilarity to it as the audience knew what Asahi's frustration was all about.
