This second book was better than the first, Amber is still fighting her shortcomings as her training in Quantico progresses. She goes on a date with Joseph and is told that he received a puzzle with a note stating that no one would be able to solve it. That was enough to pick her interest and soon she sees herself immersed in a case involving the puzzle she had been given. Absent Remorse has a little romance, a lot of action, very interesting pieces explaining how the puzzle was solved, and teamwork, and Amber is a little bit more confident in herself. A good plot and a good story! I thank the author for the ARC.
The narrator ruined this series for me. Why a British accent when the setting is D.C.?! Just throws the whole thing off and makes it confusing- at one point someone had an almost Irish accent- just did not belong with this story. I won’t be reading books 3-5 which is disappointing after I’ve read 3 of Blake Pierce’s series so far..
When I started reading the most shocking thing at the moment was that the protagonist was blond; she gave me mousy brunette vibes like Jeez ….. And blues eyes …..was I have half asleep in the first book I’m flabbergasted
Maybe the protagonist shouldn’t be allowed to have moments to her thoughts at least not in the beginning. I feel like I reverted back to my teens and watched HSM 2. Hear me out i can’t be the only one to get frustrated at the backpedaling of sharpay Evans character development. Like she made moves for with the baker basketball player only to then change back to how she was in the second movie. I thought we moved pass the I’m so gifted thing like I get it you’re special.
Now that I think about it how are you smart supposedly not good at sports but can run like speedy Gonzalez. Like speed and endurance is half the battle in most sports
Tangent done;
I will say the case didn’t come that east to AY; more time was taken in that process. The crime itself sounded interesting would be nice as a crime tv show episode.
She is now showing a pattern of reckless behavior so I wonder if the author will address that and have her get passed that.
Overall a decent read. It wasn’t as fast paced as the first book, but enough to make me look forward to reading the rest.
Flush with the success of solving a complicated crime for the FBI, former newspaper puzzle editor Amber Young enters the FBI academy so she can officially apply her puzzle solving skills to catching bad guys. Her FBI mentor, calls her away from training to help him catch a new serial killer who leaves a unique signature at each crime scene. Amber’s puzzle solving skills may be the thing that brings the bad guy down.
I had some reservations with this story. Sure, it’s fun to think the FBI would allow a puzzle editor with no law enforcement background to join its ranks, but it doesn’t seem realistic. Also, Amber puts herself in stupid dangerous situations that I’m pretty sure would get her bounced from the FBI In real life.
That said, this was still an entertaining read, and made my aerobic workout fly by. The author has many series I like better than this one, though, so I think I’ll concentrate on those.
Absent Remorse...(Amber Young FBI Suspense Thriller) WOW
Another Amber Young FBI Suspense Thriller and it was so good 👍🏾. I am so pleased to have another exciting Blake Pierce FBI Suspense Thriller. I am loving these women heroines, profilers, agents, detectives, even everyday people like our mother who went to Europe after her and her husband got a divorce, Agent Rachel Gift and my favorite profiler Jessie Hunt Psychological Suspense Thriller, can you tell I am a fan of Blake Pierce. Loved, this the second story for Amber Young she has quit her job and is training at FBI training facility in Quantico so she can become an FBI agent. Can't wait to read the next story but I will have to wait until it comes out. Loved this story, can't you tell. This is a good read.
FBI trainee Amber Young is called out of training to help solve another puzzle based murders. She’s paired with a couple of seasoned agents. The pair are dating but not out to the FBI and tempers flare between the couple. when Amber solves the outer layer of the puzzle the male agent trusts Amber and goes with her tip instead of Lauren’s (his female partner). Amber once again goes off the check something out without following protocol and gets captured by the killer. This time out Amber saves the male agent who came to her rescue. He saved her on their first case. I look forward to the next book in the series.

I thoroughly enjoyed this series of books. Good, clean mystery/thrillers are hard to come by, but Blake Pierce did a remarkable job with these. The first two I read were audiobooks; the last book in the series I read for myself. My only drawback with the audiobooks was the fact that the reader had a British accent. I thought the narrator did a great job and hope to come others narrated by her, but I felt that the accent threw me off. I had to keep reminding myself that the setting for the books was the USA. It didn’t stop me from listening!
Love the puzzle aspect of this book in particular but also the series as a whole. Although I like Amber as a character quite a lot, I find myself more than a little annoyed at how she runs off and puts herself in danger but never really seems to grow out of that. She is a FBI trainee for heavens sake--you can't just "take care of yourself." I understand the purpose but I wish she would have been a little more self aware.
I liked how difficult the puzzle was for Amber to solve. I also liked that Simon was back for this book and it sounds like he will be in future editions which I like because they seem to work well together. It does seem a little dumb that she keeps going off by herself to finish solving the case when she’s still in training. Hopefully her shorting range sessions go better.

Another unlikely female heroine that seems anything but FBI material. But her ability to solve intricate puzzles sets her apart from the usual female FBI agent and makes for interesting criminal opponents. Can’t wait to read the third book in this series.
After a slow start things go real interesting, this is a well written book with a very interesting twist and a plot that kept me interested and motivated to read on, I don’t think I will be looking for more from this author but you might just find it more entertaining than I have.
Medium chapters The puzzle aspect of this series is different and im enjoying that. My only dislike is that everytime they go talk to a suspect they run...I find this overdone in these type of books. Looking forward to book 3
Amber Young, in training to become an FBI Agent, is thrown in the midst of another puzzle mystery. This engaging story keeps the reader hooked in learning what it takes for Amber to solve the clues that a murderer has put in place.
Amber is a puzzle solver. This one was a 3D puzzle w multiple layers. I just really wish Blake Pierce books that take place in the US had a narrator with an American accent. It’s confusing to hear the voice of an American FBI agent speak w a British accent.
The intellect of the author is unbelievable! He is able to create complicated puzzles and weave them seamlessly into a murder mystery! I highly recommend his books.
The idea about a puzzle creator for the newspaper helping the FBI solve a case is better than the execution of the book, but good enough to keep me reading the next one.
Another quick, entertaining read. My only thing is that I feel like you don’t just “sign up for the FBI” …. Feels like that is definitely inaccurate but what do I know!
I am enjoying this series via audiobook. However, the setting is in Washington D.C. and all the characters speak in a British accent. The narrator is good but I wish she would have at least tried to do other accents or at least an American one, or otherwise get a different narrator.
I enjoy reading a good murder mystery book from time to time, and I particularly like following Amber Young's journey to becoming an FBI agent as well as her ability to solve complex puzzles. It's an easy and enjoyable read, and I've already downloaded the third book for when I want another murder mystery story.

While Amber is in training for the FBI another "unsolvable puzzle" is given to her. Agent Simon Phelps gets Amber from training to help with this case. Amber is really good solving puzzles and eventually finds the answer. Very good plot. Love this series.
